eating your placenta seems a little cannibalistic to me, but so does drinking breast milk and i definitely breastfed. So yeah, if i did it all over again i just might do that, but now that you've introduced me to edible earth i might wanna take that instead. i had pica w/my 2nd child and craved sand. i'd stick my hands in the coffee grains just to feel them since i wasn't quite crazy enough to eat them.
@choorijamadar I could see advantages either way. Sometimes cooked food is easier for the body to digest. I don't think raw could be that dangerous since it was living in your body for several months. LOL!
I would eat my placenta. However I wouldnt be able to handle the placenta with my hands. Some one else would have to do it for me:) I cant even stick my hand in a turkey to get out the bag of guts:p
its what the pegans did. i think, right? i think its disgusting, yet good. the capsules, yes i would take them.. but raw, in smoothies?! EW. so no not raw, but yes in capsules.
When I first heard about placenta encapsulation, I was like...uhhhh....really? REALLY?!?! Yep, really. Ew...I wouldn't eat my own ORGAN. But then...I learned more about it...and...y'know, if it was encapsulated, considering the benefits, well, why not?
I agree with the your body knows what to do, my body told me when to start pushing all the way till the placenta was out. but with no hypno birth experience and no medication I was out of it and didn't even think about asking for the placenta, I wish that I did for I would have ate it! :-D
I will definitely be looking into having my placenta put into capsule form. If its pretty pricey, I probably wont. But if the price isn't too bad, I will most likely do it!
I am a new subscriber to your channel today. I must say YOU ROCK! Love your tips, recipes, advice, etc. I wish I had known how enriched the placenta is, because I would have eaten all three. But I would have consumed it raw in a smoothie, or in capsule form, cooking it would remove the nutrients. Thanks and God Bless you.
Me personally? I would eat my placenta - I've read so many articles and research studies on it, and definitely see the benefit. Actually, most animals (even herbivores) that create a placenta engage in this, so perhaps we're just trained through centuries to be the odd ones out. But I'd still take the Edible Earth!

After having a horrible expierence with my last pregnancy and labor this time around I have been in search for the healthy and natural route..and watching your videos has helped me alot and given me some great ideas on how to become a natural mommy as well. Thank you! :D
I struggled with really bad postpartum after the birth of my first 2 children. I did not want to take medication. My hubby and I looked for natural alternatives to help ease the post postpartum after the birth of my daughter. My mom passed away unexpectedly 8 days before my daughter was born. (on my original due date) I thought the post postpartum would be really bad. (Thank God it was not.) We read about eating you placenta. That was not for me. If I could take it in capsule form i would.
I was gunna do hyponobirthing and placenta encapsulation but I didn't have the $ plus my hospital doesn't release a placenta til 7 days! It is best done 1 or 2 days after
I would only do it in capsule form I think...depending on the cost. I mean I don't know how I would start this discussion with my husband..."hey honey I want to eat my placenta, oh don't worry we are going to pay someone to turn it into a pill form." I think it's one of those things we would all like to do if we would afford it, like cord blood banking. They are great ideas but the average family can't afford those extra things.
I plan to have my placenta encapsulated. The possible benefits are very appealing, and it's just a capsule. I don't think I could stomach actually eating it, but the capsule does not "gross me out" at all. Mammals are naturally inclined to do it for a reason. We can learn a lot from our furry friends ;)
I don't think I could eat my placenta. Could it be that it is loaded w/ vitamins and minerals because it was our child's life line and not meant for us to eat? I think I need to see more research on how beneficial it actually is before I would consider it.

@jennayoung99 I was just expanding on your "animals do it and so should we" comment. It was very definitive. Just because animals do it does not mean we should. "Animals sacrifice young for population control and so should we." See? It's not right. I don't think that it's a good enough reason to eat a placenta. I'm not against eating placenta. I would never do it, but to each their own. I totally respect the decision. Just that "animals do it and so should we." was kind of creepy.
Heck yeah I'd eat my placenta! Cook it up, add a little sea salt, and go to town! The vitamins and minerals would be worth it even if it doesn't taste that great.
yes, I would actually consider eating my placenta! love the benefits offered by it, so want to test it out. the only thing i wasnt comfortable with, was the price for encapsulation. but things didnt go as planned for out first since my placenta ruptured. but if all goes as planned then we will most likely try again for next baby :)
great info! Hubby and I are ttc'ing. I do myself plan to eat my placenta once giving birth at home. I do want it in raw form so that none of the nutrients are lost. I would like to be entered in the contest also. Thanks
Animals also eat their poop. I don't think I'll be partaking in any placenta smoothies after my baby is born. I also wouldn't fry up and cook any other of my body parts if they fell off. Just to weird.
Hi there! Love your videos. => I really like the idea of the capsule form. I would do it with baby # 2 but how would I go about asking the hospital for my placenta and getting it to capsule form?? Would love to win this weeK! => Also, I cannot imagine u eating any different than u do now! WoW. U look great! Can u share some old pics of videos of u, can't imagine u heavy!
Well Eating my Placenta? I think I would be OK with having the capsules because I cant taste it and its gone in a second but I don't think I could fry it up and serve it along side my mashed potatoes and veggies LOL.... I have heard about this a lot as well as I am a birth Doula :)
I am definitely going to eat the placenta! I am preggo with baby #2 (13 weeks) and with #1 I suffered from PPD really bad after a long and tumultuous pregnancy and an induced labor with no pain meds.... the benefits are very worth it!
I just heard about eating the placenta maybe 2 years ago and I thought it was gross and crazy! Now that you hear about it more and more, I'm open to doing the capsules. If it's really that good for you, why not? Fighting PPD, increasing milk production, and shrinking the uterus back down to size.. sounds good!
My doula is encapsulating my placenta right after my son is born. I'm very much into helping my body out in any natural way possible so as to avoid unnecessary medications that will affect my baby through breastmilk.
My mom actually cooked and ate part of her placenta after each of her children's births. It's one of those things that I hoped none of my classmates ever found out about when I was in school! :) She has offered to cook some up for me after my son's birth, and while I'm totally open to it I'm not positive I'll pull the trigger. I'm definitely more open to the encapsulation.
I'm sure at some point in evolution we did eat the placenta, we see that in wildlife, all animals do it. I wonder when it has gotten taboo... But I have to say if I had to eat it I would do it also in capsule form. The idea of putting it in a smoothie though... I don't know... I love your show BTW :)
I think if I was too eat my Placeta. I would go with encapsulating it. I the encapsulation specalist can do that right at home if you had a home birth. Some people store it in a freezer bag and either encaplsule it or burry it in the ground with a small sapling tree [ my grandmother did that with all her kids - 15 kids. Lol ]
But I'd do it because I heard it helps so you dont have postpartum depression
I am actually taking classes on how to help mom's eat their placenta in any form. After you get passed the yuck after, you can see the best advantage is for the mom is to ingest the placenta.
@vhv7052 Ok,you and your husband are probably crazy. How healthy can eating a placenta be? Do the short term minimal health benefits outweigh the fact that everyone thinks you are fucking weird as shit? Seriously who would this, and then you buried the rest??? What are wierd ass shit do you and your wacko family do?
I'm due to have my baby in the next three weeks or so and have been in the process of arranging to have my placenta encapsulated. The advantages of it (lower postpartum depression risk, more energy, moods stabilized, etc) completely outweigh the ick-factor for me.
I would definitely go the placenta encapsulation route! I am a doula-in-training and I was my best friend's doula just 3 months ago. She had her placenta encapsulated and she has been extremely grateful for the benefits it has provided to her.
Depending on where we grow up we're conditioned to accept or reject a lot of practices that can potentially be very beneficial for us. We are living in the age of information. The best state of mind is to think critically and openly. I personally say yes to the placenta. Still, it's up to each person's opinion.
I am currently 18 weeks pregnant and I plan to encapsulate my placenta after my baby's birth. I've heard so many women say that it helped with their milk production and baby blues after delivery I figure it certainly can't hurt!
I am sure that there is benefits from eating your placenta, however, I don't know if I could get myself to eat it. If it was reasonable, I would maybe try the capsule form, but I would have to think long and hard about it.
I don't think that I could eat my placenta, not even in capsule form. I'm sure there are plenty of other routes to get that nutrition from, I just don't think I'd be able to stomach eating something that came out of me.
I don't know if I could get passed the fact that it was a part of me at one point. I am sure it's probably good for you, but I don't think I could do it.
I offer placenta encapsulation as a service with my doula biz. When I have my next (hypothetical) child I will definitely be ingesting the placenta. However, it will also definitely be in capsule form.
I subscribe, and showed the like button some love. :P
As long as it was in capsule form I could do it. I could never eat raw placenta but there is a reason other animals do this and I do not doubt the benefits at all.
i can't stand the way breastfeeding if promoted these days...i KNOW it's the best thing...but there are some mothers out there like myself who were unable to give breastmilk to their children....and the constant reminders and media trying to "guilt" women into breastfeeding only hurts the mother's that WANT to but CAN'T, emotionally.
@alkalinerush Aw, I hear you. I hope you know my intention wasn't to "guilt" anyone but to celebrate the practice while knowing that not everyone is able to do so. Just like everyone isn't able to get pregnant or deliver naturally. I needed my 2 drops of pitocin to do it. :). 10-15% of women need to get c-sections as a life saving measure and thank God. Some babies actually do BETTER on formula versus mother's milk too. Being a natural mama is more about the spirit then the letter of the law.
I would like to see more research about placenta encapsulation as far as results go. I wouldn't say that I would never do it, but it doesn't sound that tasty :)
I could eat it if I handed it over to someone else and they cooked it but did't tell me it was in my plate. I'd be happy to have all those nutrients back. Maybe if I had the money I'd send it off to be changed into pills, but I'd be worried about anything else being put in them w/out me knowing, you just never know.
But, in the end, I won't be eating it because none of the people I know would be willing to sneak it into my food...my husband had a cow when he read the title of this week's show!
I know that eating the placenta has become much more popular in the natural birthing circle, but , I have to say no, I would not eat my placenta. We may be mammals, but I do not consider myself an animal. Maybe animals eat their placenta for nutrition, or maybe they´re cleaning up ... I think there is a reason why our body expels it. Placenta isn´t like breast milk, the placenta stops functioning , breastmilk keeps on giving... and yes, I would drink my breastmilk for nutrition
OOO DEAR!!!!! LOL Step back away from the nastiness of thinking about eating the placenta. :::chills::: OK So if there are TRUE , real awesome benefits for me ingesting the placenta then LETS GO FOR IT! I'll take 2 and call you in the morning. (Pill version please)
I could and would NEVER eat my Placenta!!!! ewwww How unnatural!...It was not designed for us to eat that seem like an abominable act! lol I do not think that God intended women to eat their placenta. The nutrients are for the baby when pregnant not us. That would be taking health too far. Why not just get the nutrients in delicious plant based natural foods? I am now 31 weeks pregnant and that Edible earth seems very good to intake daily. i crave ice, which means my iron is low so this may help
I don't think that I would want to eat my placenta. That would be a little to natural to my taste .... But if any mama want to - then more power to you ;-)
I am 38 weeks and I would be interested in consuming the placenta but not raw or cooked. However the cost to encapsulate the placenta would be $200. It has been proven that some of the beneficial affects of ingesting your placenta include: reduction in the incidence and severity of postpartum depression, reduction of postpartum pain and discomfort, minimization of postpartum bleeding, and increased success in breastfeeding. Maybe I will do this next pregnancy as the benefits outweigh the cost.
I have to say that I would not eat my placenta. I think that other mammals eat theirs as the instinct to hide the smell of blood from predators, which is not really a problem for humans.(LOL) And the placenta filters all sorts of toxins from your body to keep them from getting to the baby, so to me it's kind of like eating the filter from my brita pitcher. Particularly now that humans ingest and inhale so many more toxins from the air we breathe and water and food we eat.
I have a friend who had her placenta encapsulated...and I thought she was a little nuts...but the more I read about it and now hearing your info too...I think I would be interested to try it with #2!
I had a neighbor eat her placentia as a side for dinner! She invited family over and popped it in the oven with some meat. Everyone knowingly and willingly ate of the bounty lol For her it was a symbol of the family being part of the new babies life. Now, I'd never serve it for dinner but making it into a capsule form i'd gladly take it :)
I heard of this before, Atleaste you know whats going into the meat. And its healthy. But for myself i dont think i could bring my self down to eating it. Maybe pill form. Great show!
I really wanted to encapsulate my placenta, but the expense was too high. I think it would be very beneficial. I may eat it raw in a smoothie or even cooked, but someone else would need to have prepared it for me! After birthing that would have a been a bit much! LOL! Actually I think my placenta may still be in the freezer at my in-laws house (where I gave birth) and in a completely different state... let's hope they don't confuse it for a big steak! LOL!... Ew.
Please enter me in the contest! I made placenta print art with my 2 home births. But do plan on eating the placenta with the next little one. I want to eat a chuck when it is really fresh (within an hour of birth) and then capuslate the rest. I think it is benificial, slightly gross, but very very good for you. Its really going to be mind over matter!
I am considering it--I grew up on a farm and Dad and I would often go watch the various mammals birth and they always ate the placenta. Not so sure about the smoothie, but maybe the capsules. Planting it is also appealing to me.
I have heard about the whole eating the placenta thing. I am kind of on the fence about it. On the one hand it truly is a GREAT way to slowly get your hormones back to normal after birth, but on the other hand I kind of feel like it is cannibalism. I don't think I will do it. We are not animals.
I'd eat my placenta in pill form... not sure if I can down a smoothie with it or eat it cooked. Any tips on kicking the sugar habit? It's a big problem in my household and I'd like to decrease the amount of sugar we eat before Gavin is eating solids. The only problem is that sugar is in EVERYTHING. :(
I am not sure if the benefits from eating the placenta are strong enough to make me go there. I respect that organ and I love that mothers are started to open their eyes to late cord clamping. But I think that you get the same hormones when you start breastfeeding and the rest you can get from eating iron rich food right after birth and taking supplements. I do not judge other women for doing it. It does not harm them so go right ahead! Bon appetit! :)
I have considered it in capsule, but do you have to cook it first to be able to encapsulate it? Is there a way to dry it while keeping the natural raw benifits?
I had pica pretty bad when I was pregnant. All I wanted was blackened chicken morning noon and night.
Placenta? I understand the idea and am not squeamish about it (my placenta was fascinating!) but I think I'll pass. The thought of placenta smoothie makes me queasy.
I've herd the benefits and how good it is and sounds like a great idea..but just the fact that it was in my body kinda grosses me out. I'm hot sure if i would handle swallowing the capsule, i cant even swallow my whole prenatal because of the smell and size but then again I'm considering it :)
Eating or planting the placenta was breifly mentioned in my pre-natal class, everyone seemed revolted by the idea and quickly shrugged off the idea. I haven't considered doing it but i say WHY NOT?! I have no doubt that the benefits are amazing, especially for someone like me where my iron levels were low during pregnancy and after giving birth.
@LouLou230705 They say it's rejuvenating which would be important for a new mama with little sleep and low iron levels which make one even more fatigued.
I have been giving it a lot of thought since I am due in December and think I will be doing it in capsule form. I don't think I could handle the thought of eating it raw but really look forward to the health benefits. Love ya mama natural :)
Yes, I want to eat my placenta. I think to just throw them away is such a waste. I'd like to do the capsule thing - I'm going to look into it, as a facility that does this may be hard to find in Ireland. Otherwise I'll cook it - not loving the raw smoothy idea! :)
I think it's a great natural way to help with postpartum depression especially and gosh it's already there so why not? Although I can't i say could stomach it any other way then in a capsule .
I wouldn't eat it...but I wanted to plant it (but still, did not do that because I was moving within a month of birthing). The ONLY reason I wouldn't is simply because the thought is too ishy...too Hannibal Lecter for me. But, neither do I doubt the benefits.
@TheAppieShow I think planting it is a beautiful ritual. It does so much for us and baby during the pregnancy. It deserves to be honored... not sure about eating it :).
I would so do the placenta capsules, and the only reason I wouldn't be able to eat it raw or even in a smoothie simply b/c of the idea of it, but don't doubt the benefits of it.
I don't think I could have gone the smoothie or stew route but I did have my placenta encapsulated and was so glad I did. I felt like it gave me more energy for those first few sleepless weeks. Unfortunately the amount your placenta makes, depending on size, only really lasts a month or so. But my midwife suggested saving any leftovers in the freezer for menopause! That is a long way off for me so I don't think I will with this baby's placenta.
I wanted to encapsulate the 5 I had in my freezer but someone defrosted them and so they were wasted

I had water home birth. My husband and I cooked a small part up and dehydrated some. The rest is buried in our backyard.
It was pretty gross lol. I'd do the capsule next time. My milk came in the 3days. No PPD. Milk supply has been strong. No fatigue, no anemia.

I have heard about this a lot as well as I am a birth Doula :)
fuzzypeach5 6 months ago
I am definitely going to eat the placenta! I am preggo with baby #2 (13 weeks) and with #1 I suffered from PPD really bad after a long and tumultuous pregnancy and an induced labor with no pain meds.... the benefits are very worth it!
acajouluthien 6 months ago
I just heard about eating the placenta maybe 2 years ago and I thought it was gross and crazy! Now that you hear about it more and more, I'm open to doing the capsules. If it's really that good for you, why not? Fighting PPD, increasing milk production, and shrinking the uterus back down to size.. sounds good!
aquarianotes 6 months ago
My doula is encapsulating my placenta right after my son is born. I'm very much into helping my body out in any natural way possible so as to avoid unnecessary medications that will affect my baby through breastmilk.
hippiemommy009 6 months ago
If it was in a capsule yes but not raw or cooked..I don't think I'd be able to look at it and know I have to eat it..
Ka0tic018 6 months ago
My mom actually cooked and ate part of her placenta after each of her children's births. It's one of those things that I hoped none of my classmates ever found out about when I was in school! :) She has offered to cook some up for me after my son's birth, and while I'm totally open to it I'm not positive I'll pull the trigger. I'm definitely more open to the encapsulation.
vanessamcprod 6 months ago
I'm sure at some point in evolution we did eat the placenta, we see that in wildlife, all animals do it. I wonder when it has gotten taboo... But I have to say if I had to eat it I would do it also in capsule form. The idea of putting it in a smoothie though... I don't know... I love your show BTW :)
dimpleza 6 months ago
Hell yeah! I would eat my placenta! with a little salt lol I gotta get those minerals! :P
myxtreme22 6 months ago
I think if I was too eat my Placeta. I would go with encapsulating it. I the encapsulation specalist can do that right at home if you had a home birth. Some people store it in a freezer bag and either encaplsule it or burry it in the ground with a small sapling tree [ my grandmother did that with all her kids - 15 kids. Lol ]
But I'd do it because I heard it helps so you dont have postpartum depression
RavenMidnight911 6 months ago
I am actually taking classes on how to help mom's eat their placenta in any form. After you get passed the yuck after, you can see the best advantage is for the mom is to ingest the placenta.

I would possibly eat the placenta in capsule form, but it is highly unlikely.

@vhv7052 Ok,you and your husband are probably crazy. How healthy can eating a placenta be? Do the short term minimal health benefits outweigh the fact that everyone thinks you are fucking weird as shit? Seriously who would this, and then you buried the rest??? What are wierd ass shit do you and your wacko family do?
z156799 4 months ago
I'm due to have my baby in the next three weeks or so and have been in the process of arranging to have my placenta encapsulated. The advantages of it (lower postpartum depression risk, more energy, moods stabilized, etc) completely outweigh the ick-factor for me.

Idk if i could eat the placenta like raw, lol, but i would deff. take it in capsule form!!!
KristaMattand1OTW 6 months ago
I would definitely go the placenta encapsulation route! I am a doula-in-training and I was my best friend's doula just 3 months ago. She had her placenta encapsulated and she has been extremely grateful for the benefits it has provided to her.

Its a little strange to eat placenta but I would probably take it in capsule form! Id like to win :)

Even though the placenta is packed full of nutrients etc I just don't think I could bring myself to eat it!
spottylill 6 months ago
Depending on where we grow up we're conditioned to accept or reject a lot of practices that can potentially be very beneficial for us. We are living in the age of information. The best state of mind is to think critically and openly. I personally say yes to the placenta. Still, it's up to each person's opinion.
BBoughton 6 months ago
I am currently 18 weeks pregnant and I plan to encapsulate my placenta after my baby's birth. I've heard so many women say that it helped with their milk production and baby blues after delivery I figure it certainly can't hurt!
df2338 6 months ago
I am sure that there is benefits from eating your placenta, however, I don't know if I could get myself to eat it. If it was reasonable, I would maybe try the capsule form, but I would have to think long and hard about it.
ttchopefulholly 6 months ago
i would do the placenta capsules
beckygem 6 months ago
I don't think that I could eat my placenta, not even in capsule form. I'm sure there are plenty of other routes to get that nutrition from, I just don't think I'd be able to stomach eating something that came out of me.

I offer placenta encapsulation as a service with my doula biz. When I have my next (hypothetical) child I will definitely be ingesting the placenta. However, it will also definitely be in capsule form.
I subscribe, and showed the like button some love. :P
alilcrunchidoula 6 months ago
As long as it was in capsule form I could do it. I could never eat raw placenta but there is a reason other animals do this and I do not doubt the benefits at all.

i can't stand the way breastfeeding if promoted these days...i KNOW it's the best thing...but there are some mothers out there like myself who were unable to give breastmilk to their children....and the constant reminders and media trying to "guilt" women into breastfeeding only hurts the mother's that WANT to but CAN'T, emotionally.
alkalinerush 6 months ago
@alkalinerush Aw, I hear you. I hope you know my intention wasn't to "guilt" anyone but to celebrate the practice while knowing that not everyone is able to do so. Just like everyone isn't able to get pregnant or deliver naturally. I needed my 2 drops of pitocin to do it. :). 10-15% of women need to get c-sections as a life saving measure and thank God. Some babies actually do BETTER on formula versus mother's milk too. Being a natural mama is more about the spirit then the letter of the law.

the only way i could is in capsule only but don't ever plan to do so
hazeldream1984 6 months ago
I would like to see more research about placenta encapsulation as far as results go. I wouldn't say that I would never do it, but it doesn't sound that tasty :)
jollyjess6 6 months ago
I could eat it if I handed it over to someone else and they cooked it but did't tell me it was in my plate. I'd be happy to have all those nutrients back. Maybe if I had the money I'd send it off to be changed into pills, but I'd be worried about anything else being put in them w/out me knowing, you just never know.
But, in the end, I won't be eating it because none of the people I know would be willing to sneak it into my food...my husband had a cow when he read the title of this week's show!
mrmrsmasala 6 months ago
I don't think I could do it! Probably because I do not eat very much meat and to me, it would be just like that but worse...bloody and from me??!!
Kristamariecurry 6 months ago
I know that eating the placenta has become much more popular in the natural birthing circle, but , I have to say no, I would not eat my placenta. We may be mammals, but I do not consider myself an animal. Maybe animals eat their placenta for nutrition, or maybe they´re cleaning up ... I think there is a reason why our body expels it. Placenta isn´t like breast milk, the placenta stops functioning , breastmilk keeps on giving... and yes, I would drink my breastmilk for nutrition
importedmama 6 months ago
OOO DEAR!!!!! LOL Step back away from the nastiness of thinking about eating the placenta. :::chills::: OK So if there are TRUE , real awesome benefits for me ingesting the placenta then LETS GO FOR IT! I'll take 2 and call you in the morning. (Pill version please)
MBShrewsbury 6 months ago
I could and would NEVER eat my Placenta!!!! ewwww How unnatural!...It was not designed for us to eat that seem like an abominable act! lol I do not think that God intended women to eat their placenta. The nutrients are for the baby when pregnant not us. That would be taking health too far. Why not just get the nutrients in delicious plant based natural foods? I am now 31 weeks pregnant and that Edible earth seems very good to intake daily. i crave ice, which means my iron is low so this may help
CHRISTINEONEALE09 6 months ago
I don't think that I would want to eat my placenta. That would be a little to natural to my taste .... But if any mama want to - then more power to you ;-)
flo538 6 months ago
I am 38 weeks and I would be interested in consuming the placenta but not raw or cooked. However the cost to encapsulate the placenta would be $200. It has been proven that some of the beneficial affects of ingesting your placenta include: reduction in the incidence and severity of postpartum depression, reduction of postpartum pain and discomfort, minimization of postpartum bleeding, and increased success in breastfeeding. Maybe I will do this next pregnancy as the benefits outweigh the cost.
CherryAnaBeauty 6 months ago
I have to say that I would not eat my placenta. I think that other mammals eat theirs as the instinct to hide the smell of blood from predators, which is not really a problem for humans.(LOL) And the placenta filters all sorts of toxins from your body to keep them from getting to the baby, so to me it's kind of like eating the filter from my brita pitcher. Particularly now that humans ingest and inhale so many more toxins from the air we breathe and water and food we eat.

LOL!... Ew.
fluffywanderings 6 months ago
Please enter me in the contest! I made placenta print art with my 2 home births. But do plan on eating the placenta with the next little one. I want to eat a chuck when it is really fresh (within an hour of birth) and then capuslate the rest. I think it is benificial, slightly gross, but very very good for you. Its really going to be mind over matter!
anjomi1986 6 months ago
I am considering it--I grew up on a farm and Dad and I would often go watch the various mammals birth and they always ate the placenta. Not so sure about the smoothie, but maybe the capsules. Planting it is also appealing to me.

I would consider eating my placenta in capsule form, I have heard alot of beneficial things about it.
GonnaBAMom1Day 6 months ago

ScandinavianMom 6 months ago
I have considered it in capsule, but do you have to cook it first to be able to encapsulate it? Is there a way to dry it while keeping the natural raw benifits?

I had pica pretty bad when I was pregnant. All I wanted was blackened chicken morning noon and night.
Placenta? I understand the idea and am not squeamish about it (my placenta was fascinating!) but I think I'll pass. The thought of placenta smoothie makes me queasy.
amygirl1983 6 months ago
@amygirl1983 Interesting about the pica and blackened food. Have you tried clay? Might help if there's a next time for you.
MamaNaturalBlog 6 months ago
I could not eat it-cooked OR raw! But, I would take it in a capsule! In fact, why would you let all that 'goodness' go to waste? =)
jessinjamie2006 6 months ago
I've herd the benefits and how good it is and sounds like a great idea..but just the fact that it was in my body kinda grosses me out. I'm hot sure if i would handle swallowing the capsule, i cant even swallow my whole prenatal because of the smell and size but then again I'm considering it :)
angiepatyo07 6 months ago
Eating or planting the placenta was breifly mentioned in my pre-natal class, everyone seemed revolted by the idea and quickly shrugged off the idea. I haven't considered doing it but i say WHY NOT?! I have no doubt that the benefits are amazing, especially for someone like me where my iron levels were low during pregnancy and after giving birth.
LouLou230705 6 months ago
@LouLou230705 They say it's rejuvenating which would be important for a new mama with little sleep and low iron levels which make one even more fatigued.

I wouldn't eat it...but I wanted to plant it (but still, did not do that because I was moving within a month of birthing). The ONLY reason I wouldn't is simply because the thought is too ishy...too Hannibal Lecter for me. But, neither do I doubt the benefits.
