i just got my iguana yesterday and gave it a bath today. afterward it whipped at me twice. my iguana is the same size, what should i do to tame it where i can go pick it up without it getting frightened and running away etc?
Idiot course not. Put some fishes in there and a pump or what ever to clean the water. Everyone here in Switzerland is rich enough to buy things like that and all our Waterdragons and Iguanas love it
Don't you give them a terrarium with a big pool or what ever in it??? Do they always have to wait until you carry them in your bath? He doesn't seem to like the slippery bath at all....
They are okay in water, I'm not sure if they "like" it... but sometimes they get kinda messy and its easy to clean them up just by giving them a bath. Last time I bathed her I put her in the shower for a few minutes, she seemed to like that because she could move around kind of like a heavy warm rain.. hehe..
Being wet also helps them shed any loose/dry skin they have hanging on them.
Green Iguanas do get very big. She is over 2 years old now and eats fresh food like collard and mustard greens, dandilion greens, peas, beans, swiss chard, and some fruit sometimes.
She has a PowerSun mercury vapor bulb and a cage that is 3 x 3 by 5 and a half high. She is now about 3 and a half or 4 feet long and quite healthy and happy. :)
i remember when i use to wash my iguana in the tub, it use to do the same thing, try to claw its way out, its to big to put in the tub now, the last time we put it in the tub was probably 5 years ago it was a good 4.5 feet long, its spazed out and almost put a whole in the tub with its tail
It acts exactly the same as my iguana when I give him a bath. I think clawing at the side of the tub is hard-wired into a green iguana's brain or something.
An update for anyone who's interested, Mariguana is doing fantastic! Mainly on the Zoo-Med juvenile iguana food for a diet, with occasional fresh treats of carrots, green peppers, fruit.. Mariguana is also in a 3x3x3 cage and under a zoo-med Mercury Vapor lamp for heat and UVB. All is well with Mariguana and to all those who slammed me over the months for "doing it wrong", get off my internet.
thanks, and yeah they love jumping around in the tub.. which reminds me, Mariguana hasn't had a bath in a while.. I bet Marig would love to have a bath again soon.. Maybe tomorrow I will have time!

If he liked taking a bath he would happily stand or swim in the water, not try to escape from the tub! Not all iguanas enjoy water.
