Some things cannot be translated...and making any attempt to translate it will it a fool of yourself...like you just demonstrated...LOL. Good try tho...LOL.
Apple and orange are fruit, but their seeds are totally different, cross planting without carefully study could only create a fruit that no one will want to have a bite. These ladies are great singer, I just hate to see this kind of songs. Just my 2 cents.
@5170WU they used the music but not the same lyris...its the lyris that tells the story ...in this song, the lyris tells a happier story so i dont see why cant they enjoy and sing it in a different mood and tone.....also the way the music was played were also adjusted so make it sounded lighter and happier in order to create a happier tone. ..
THE BEGINING IS SO WEIRD AND FUNNY (THE PART WITHOUT MUSIC) BUT WHEN WE GET TO TEH END LYRICS " IF U PLAY MAHJONG I WILL NEVER CRITICIZE" AND " ITS THE TIME LETS GET HIGH WE CAN BOOGIE TILL THE END OF TIME" AND ALSO " LET US GO AND START TO PARTY, WHISKEY CHEESE AND WINE" IS SOOOO FUNNY AND SOO MODERN STICK TO CANTONSE PLEASE (BTW IM CANTONESE) STAY WITH TEH OLD WAYS JEEZ LOL AND TAHT WAS SO LEZBO LIKE LOL
they are really good! i have heard this song before but never thought there would be an english version of this song. are these words pretty close to the original?
good singing.. i heard that song when i watch the perish in the name of love drama...even dont know the meaning but the melody is very nice.. ops.. im malay actly..huhu
This is a fun version, can see that the singers are having fun. Plus there is no way to translate the orginal chinese and subsitute it with english words into the song. I love the orginal song in cantonese.
They sang well, but the translation just doesn't match the Chinese version --- I mean if you want to sing a legendary Chinese song in English, at least pay some respect and translate it properly, please.
Whoa! I was always completely lost when I watched Chinese Opera but when it's done in English it's actually very entertaining and I enjoyed the singing too!! It didn't just sound like a whole lot of shrills and gongs clanging about! Well done!
@lililu8 it'd be hard 4 ppl 2 relate cause the lyrics werent translated corrected and the was sung in a completely different way with completely different emotions involved
haha it proves how "easy" it is to stuff English lyrics (esp love lyrics) into a melody... it's alwasy the same themes and you use a total of about 100 words hahaha. This is much more creative than the average contemporary English garbage lyrics though!
this is soooo funny! compared to the original version-"this was never meant TOOO BEEEE" roflol "if you play mahjong i will never criticize" lol thats good! "whisky, cheese and wine!"thats the best part!
Both of them sing well but they had changed the meaning of the actual lyrics too much to be acceptable. I wonder if any of them or lyric writer could sing/write more slightly following the actual meaning of the sotry.
Though the original theme is drastically changed, the pair provided us a very entertaining performance. It can promote the original Cantonese Opera to an international level, I guess.
OH Man the lyrics killed me, I couldn't stop laughing. Love the ending, "let us party, whisky cheese and wine." lol I applaud their english skills. It's good. :]
Yingwu008, both of the Classical Cantonese Singers,I believe was Educated in Canada for many Years.the Lady in White Suit is Miss LuiSan & Miss SooSan,onlythe ladyin white suit is with the TVB-hongkong TV -Every year they go on world Tour shows to Canada/USA..they are in their early 50's
I don't know what I like more - listening to the song or the really strong Hong Kong accent (especially the dark haired woman) I hope the cantonese culture continues until the end of time also. Bye the way both women are beautiful. Who are they? I assume this performance was on Hong Kong television, right?
Some things cannot be translated...and making any attempt to translate it will it a fool of yourself...like you just demonstrated...LOL. Good try tho...LOL.

帝女花是一首悲情. 任白的名曲. 可是這兩位歌者. 喜皮笑臉. 以玩世不恭的態度去演繹. 完全失卻任白的神韻. 只在語文上唱腔. 相信有識之西人. 會恥笑我們粵劇不知所謂.........
