  • I still love Cherry Coke, but wish they would bring back the 80's-style can from this commercial!

  • SNL did something similar for their intro around this time. Great stuff!

  • track?

  • cherry coke? oO never heard of it

  • I miss those big glass bottles of coke.

  • ok i come from new zealand. when i was 6 in 93 they had ads come out for cherry coke and sold it for awhile.... then stopped.

but just recently ive found a new night and day gull service station that has cherry cola cans. i got 3. im drinking one now. amen to cherry capitalism. pfff.

  • Thanks for posting!

  • i can't believe :)):))) USA has cherry coke from 1986 and in Romania we never heard of it and not even mention about tasting it :))))))

  • SNL had a similar opening for their show either that season or the year before (1985) - the year with Billy Crystal and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

  • Thank you for posting this.

  • Nostalgia for the 50's was passe in 1986.But I still give this vid a thumbs up.I remember they used to play this commericial during Solid Gold and Puttin' On the Hits every Saturday.

  • retro philie i was about to say the same thing and i read your comment. im 12 and i remember watching those video's and i saw this and thought they looked similar. we must think alike

  • They need to bring back lime coke

  • These motion graphics are similar to those in the Cars (band) VHS released in 1984 - designed by Andy Warhol. A lot of work went into that, and it looks epic.

  • I wish they still sold Cherry Coke in the country I live in.

  • OOOH CH-CH-CH-CHERRY COKE (outrageous!)

  • Speaking of retro and soda - Shasta's back. We're back on TV for the first time since the 80s, check out at sneak peek right here on Y/T at "Heads Up Shasta". Spot will break later this summer.

  • THis add copied the 1984-1985 opener of SNL with Billy Crystal. Martin Short etc.

  • This ad represents the first use of a break through technology - digital compositing. It used Abekas's A62 that allowed the editor to add unlimited layers digitally with no loss of image quality. Before the Abekas every added layer required a new analog recording. Each new recording on analog tape machines reduced quality so the number of layers was limited to about 10 before the image degraded noticeably. The A62 had 50 seconds of storage and cost over $50,000

  • yay...outrageously eighties

  • I miss the effort and thought that used to go into making commercials...

  • @dadevi I agree. I also miss all those great commercials. They were just as entertaining as the programs at any time of the day. Today, they suck.

  • @dadevi I TOTALLY AGREE ON THAT.....

  • @dadevi I TOTALLY AGREE ON THAT.....

  • Youtube is the best. I vaguely remember this commercial and I can't believe I was able to find in youtube. God bless you interent.

  • Or, god bless the people who take the time to find these old clips and upload them onto the internet :-)

  • xD ya

  • Coca Cola actually hired the same man who did the SNL intro, John Kraus, because they were so impressed with his work at SNL.

  • Yeah the 80's was best years in life,i used see alot mid 80's commercials in Puerto rico off the navy base back in my days when my dad used be in navy for 12years.I do remeber this one.

  • This was from the same time I was born; which was June 1986!

    Nice commercial, btw.

  • Both that commercial and the '84-'85 SNL open were produced by a company called Charlex in New York.

  • That's just what I was thinking: looks like the Billy Crystal/Martin Short season of Saturday Night Live.

  • Too much of this commercial reminded me of the 84-85 opening of Saturday Night Live.

  • Agreed. Definitely seems inspired by that season's montage.
