That's because the trumpets are playing with good tone quality and sounding rich and mellow, like a trumpet should. They aren't trying to blow the horn off the bell and scream all over the place. That's why SMB sounds different from other high school bands. That's what we call a mature sound.

Seeing how I was the instructor, the person who arranged this song, and the one that taped, edited, and posted this video, I know exactly what I'm talking about and don't need to be corrected.
He was on trumpet. This performance was in May, and he started playing in January. He picked up really quickly and having him perform with the big kids was the best way to reward him. Besides, the band doesn't hold auditions or have any prerequisite requirements, so it's less about talent and more about hard work and one's willingness to learn....

It's a group of elementary, middle, and high school kids. In this video, the youngest is 9 and the oldest is 18...

Very nice. I liked the flag girls routine. That would definetly be something my school would do but with more movement from the band itself.
