  • This world is full of stupid monkeys. But that's part of the reasons why life is fun and good. :)

  • nice piece, good...

  • Comment removed

  • Timzack, theres no such thing as whites or blacks or yellows. These are all terms created to divide people by generalizing them in terms of color or race. The so called whites can come from wherever in the world just like blacks can come from whereever and so can Asians and anyone else. If you are talking about pride, you need to learn your hertiage if you dont know what it is. For example, you can have a Romanian background but living in the States.

  • Didn't the term Model Minority come out in the 1970s? The term was suppose to set a stereotype that everyone of color is hardworking, but for some odd reason. It became associated with only Asians being hardworking. Which is total BS.

  • O2b (M176) Koreanids are probably the most fastidious of all neohumanids

  • power + prejudice=racism...I agree with you 100% people need to wake up and know there history! Peace Bro!

  • haha f***USA

  • Well, I am not angry with you. A lot of what you say, many in every race can relate to what say. And for the record, I would never call you or anyone else names. No, it gets no one anywhere but back to square one. But on the model minority issue, I think blacks have turned to mostly civil rights leaders (i.e., Dr King & Malcom X)in the early stages of the movement along with the usual public figures, athletes and entertainers for role models.

  • The founding fore fathers want American orginally for Anglo-Saxons.

  • 2 words: white privilege (a white guy did not type this.)

  • I also notice that when they talk about the so-called model minority, they only focus on certain Asian ethnic groups. You rarely hear them talking about Laotians, Hmong, Cambodians and various other ethnic groups that statistically are much less successful than whites. Also, you have a point; the economic factors change depending on the economic standards of your environment. It's like having a house in San Francisco versus having a house in a less expensive city.

  • inachu-

    I'm korean, I'm 19

    and I hate Bush.

    that's all.

  • thumbs up

  • The Koreans the age of this guy in this video like between 19-36 all act like neocons as if they were tiny Bush doctrine puppets. They all go to church and cry...."Please vote for Bush!" So evil I tell you!

  • Eh the Korena church I visit has many many incestuous relationships cousins marry cousins. I know this one girl Jane and she looks like she married her brother.

    Really sick man....

  • I believe america in the only place in the world that you can't marry your cousin... there is no biological reason that you can't have healthy kids from your cousins... especial 2nd or 3rd cousins.

What is sick about marrying your cousin? What harm comes from it?

  • Are you sure they married cousin? Well I am a korean and in our tradition and even in constitution inter consin marriage is prohibitted.

  • they are... they did it to keep the money in the family

  • it is about constantly keeping the working class divided by giving social privileges of whiteness to new groups.

DuBois called it the wages of whiteness, although he was talking about the social privileges given to working class whites. the same applies here to other groups that seek whiteness

whew...i havent slept yet so if my thoughts seem jobbled (yes i just made that word)...then forgive me. i hope u get my points.

keep the discussion going! write me back!

  • hmmm...just one thing. i dont think the only reason blacks are not succeeding in the usa is because they were brought here unwillingly and therefore don't have the same will or plan in mind to assimilate and succeed. the problem is also that all new immigrant groups, in order to succeed, have had to distinguish themselves from the black population. that is how the irish n others became white and that is (sadly) what many asian groups seek as well.

  • I feel what your talking about. My mother is like that. She says she is not racist but she is....I was aware of it since I was a small child by thing she would say.She would say she is stereotyping but thats not true. or that it was how she was raised and she can get away from it although she try's .I think she liked Regan lol...

  • IT HELPS!! GREAT VIDEO.

  • You make some great points bro. Thanks for opening my thinking a little more.

  • no race is better than the other one but are the customs and the way each person thinks that makes them who they are

  • In this video you lived up to your user name :p. Excellent videos btw. Ah if only everyone had your wisdom there would be no racism. But there would still be sexism, weightism and looksism left to deal with.

  • ANGRYRACISTCOMMENT: If you look carefully how Koreans get images of Black people, you'll realize that it's really the White institutions of globalization coupled with media that create Black images for many Koreans and Korean Americans.

    ---

If thats the case then why does it seem like korean americans be all up in white people asses. its like they whorship "the white man" but the look down on the brown/black man. its like if ur white then ur aight if ur black or brown get da fuck down!

  • & ur comment about it being a cultural thing with blacks not wanting to do well in America cus it might be preceived as acting white? wtf! maybe i misunderstood ur comment, but most blacks that i know their parents stay on their asses to succeed! their parents tell them that they have 2 be better then everybody else b/c their already looked down upon on in our society.

  • Well said, keep up the good work.

  • I'm quite impressed with you, not only the video but also your response comments. It's admirable how eloquently you've responded to others' viewpoint, particularly the less savory ones.

  • lol how the fuck is it myth, Obviously you're not going to engage the statistics of the status quo. Because then you would be forced to address the absurd overrepresentation of asians in our institutions. And yes, these asians lifted themselves out of poverty through working hard.

  • Asian Americans are overrepresented in some institutions, not all. In many other fields, they're severely underrepresented.

Again, you're tapping into the myth of meritocracy. Check the statistics yourself. Taking into account regional income variations, Asian Americans are not paid as much as their White counterparts. Go to any Chinatown and you'll see what I mean.

  • A caucasian is paid more on average for the same level of education as an asian. This is for an aggregate of reasons. However it hardly takes down the model minority myth, again, if you were to take into account every institution that is reached through merit you would find that asians are incredibly over-represented. Taking a major that is determinedly hardcore liberal is going to skew the way you understand the world.

  • No has an un-skewed view of the world. You're fooling yourself into thinking that there's ever an objective way of looking at things. We all have lens created through our unique epistemological experiences that have mostly reinforced what we believe is true. Somehow that becomes a problem if I majored in sociology?

  • absolutely, sociology is a major birthed out of the american civil rights movement. Thus, it is quite disillusioned with the times. Our academic institutions are saturated by political correctness. And btw "antiracist" please tell me what you think about Whites not being allowed to have pride without being called racists in status quo society. You ignored my comment about that.

  • Actually, no. Sociology is a discipline that has its roots in racist urban studies of Black people at the University of Chicago. And I have no problem if White people are proud of being White....and anti-racist. But being proud of being White just because you're White? You do realize that pride from People of Color is a reaction to racism. You'll be hard pressed to find Asian pride in Asia.

  • You guys need to read, "roots of sociology?"

Look up Durkheim and Max Weber before you start spewing fantasy history on here again.

  • Durkheim and Weber are classical sociologists, but sociology as an academic discipline has its origins in urban studies about Black constitutional inferiorities. I was a sociology major and I'm very well aware of where the ideas comes from. What's funny to me is, too, that we attribute sociology to White scholars...though THE most important sociologist in American scholarship is WEB DuBois.

  • Oh, I understand your point about the U of Chicago, I just feel you are overstating it--a lot. Also, in America, the tip off is always that the racist is always the most vehement in their insistence that they are not racist--I see you get that.

  • my strong beliefs of god and country and the shear fact that a part of me is very much korean..enabled me too lead and fight with all of my heart.. and was wounded on Nov 6, 2007 by an improvised explosive device, I was medievac'd by helicopter in the middle of battle and was later returned to the US in a stretcher..I was awarded a bronze star for valor and a purple heart..I am currently a grad school student at the university of florida

  • anyways my point is, is that I owe alot of my attitude and strong determination to my korean side... I knew what was expected out of me...yeah, its hard but i honestly do believe that asians have a stronger sense of duty...by duty, i mean living up to the challenges and expectations that are set so high for us.. asians to me are the silent, consummate professionals.. so to reiterate myself i strongly believe their is NO MYTH

  • Also, studying sociology didn't make me disillusioned. Stop with the essentialist crap, pointing to everything as proof positive of how you're right just because it exists. And I don't like political correctness...the whole PC thing is antithetical to antiracism. By virtue of being an anti-racist, I've stirred up emotions in you. By that fact alone I am not being PC.

  • hyung, why did you make this video?? i mean honestly, is this whole model minority thing too much of a burden.."LOL".. my opinion is that their is NO MYTH.. being asian(korean american) isnt easy because of the huge challenges that are ahead of us, but I embrace those challenges...I actually love them...this same attitude carried out with me when i joined the marines, i was later entrusted with the lives of other marines by leading them into combat.

  • Who told you people of slave decendants didn't want to fully assimilate in this culture, they aleady have!and they didn't have much of a choice just like Asian-Americans have, I've heard a few say don't call me Asian American just an American.

  • Not according to John Ogbu. Forced immigrants like the slaves in fact had no choice but to learn English. How do you define assimilation? There are still deeply rooted cultural values that African Americans have that are rooted in West African philosophy and the diasporic experience. Oh, and just because a few Asian Americans tell you to call them American doesn't mean all Asian Americans feel the same way. Viewing individuals as spokespeople for their race is called tokenism.

  • Flexyjeff: If you are "White", you're kind is not any better! You guys are just as hypocritical! your complaints is just a little taste of your own medicine!

  • history repeats itself over and over again. americans say the same thing about the mexicans coming over here. they are only here to take our jobs and that they are deliberately trying to take over the country.

america tends to forget that we have tried to bar immigrants, and ya' know what? it didn't work. we tried in 1924 immigration act and nothing was accomplished.

p.s. are you a sociology student?

  • I majored in sociology as an undergrad. That would explain my knowledge about the matter...=)

  • wtf..koreans look down on other asians ,for some weird reason, they think they are the shit..they even think they are more superior to caucasians,no problem but next time u guys are fighting your freaking war since u guys feel u are the shit..fucking pussies

  • What's with the animosity? There are a multitude of reasons that many Koreans have pride at the expense of other people. I know I don't, so why are you calling me names?

  • dude i spent some time in korea and i saw how racist u guys are..most korean/american mixed kids in korea are discriminated against...most of them dont have college degrees or lucrative jobs..and koreans teach thier kids the sermon of racial superiority and expect whites to treat them better in america..u guys got a lot of gutts talking like that..koreans are even racist to other asians.preety insane

  • First of all, Koreans can't be racist to other Asian ethnic groups because there aren't multiple Asian races...only ethnicities. Secondly, you're unconsciously connecting me to people in Korea...my experiences and identity are Korean American, not just Korean; you're seeing me as a foreigner. I also have a unique understanding of race and racism, so it's unfair for you to think that I share the same thoughts as others. My video makes that pretty clear.

  • Angryantiracist how is that Koreans can't be racist to other Asian ethnic groups yet in still dislike Chinese and the Japanese, one only has to you tube videos and read the propaganda type books to see that. I don't quite understand what you mean.

  • That's being ethnically prejudiced, not racist. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Laotian, Hmong, Cambodian...these aren't races, now, are they?

  • Well no they're not but you still prejudiced so what is the point I don't understand. Oh by the way according to an article in the Korea Times, Chinese people rank South Koreans at the bottom of the list in terms of friendship. Why do you think that is so, also I've even read stories about Korean=Americans isolating themselves from everybody else especially in colleges and schools. Why?

  • Korea has been called the Hermit Kingdom because of its history of surviving various attempts at taking it over. There is a certain cultural need and historical basis for Korean solidarity. Most people don't take that into consideration. Sometimes it turns into elitism, but it's not hatred for other people that is the foundation for a somewhat fundamental aspect of being Korean.

  • Realize thats without U.S. troops dying for your people in the 50s that you're country would be part of one of the most oppressive dictatorships of all time. It infuriates me when Koreans start accusing the U.S. of imperialism when the only reason their life isn't a living hell is the blood of U.S. soldiers on Korea. Your welcome-

  • First of all, you're assuming that Korean Americans are all a product of the post-1965 immigration wave. Secondly, you make it seem as if "helping" Korea was the priority of the war. The truth of the matter is that post-WWII wars were all for the establishment of a capitalist world order. Yes, the US fought against dictatorship in Korea, but the US also *backed* dictators in Latin-America time and time again. The US *IS AND WAS* is imperialistic. "Saving" Korea was one way it did that.

  • i know of one mixed actress that had to hide her heritage inother to succed in the movie industry but it eventually came out in the open and most koreans were not too pleased..before i forget korean/black mixed kids are also in the same dillema..dude if u want to preach, start with ur own people..we whites are not perfect but u guys are worse

  • Your internalized superiority is being articulated through your disapproval of Koreans' prejudices. If you look carefully how Koreans get images of Black people, you'll realize that it's really the White institutions of globalization coupled with media that create Black images for many Koreans and Korean Americans.

Complex issues like Black-Asian relations can't be boiled down to your assumptions about people. You're only creating more of a dichotomy by saying "we whites" and "you guys".

  • dude that is bullshit..i will say maybe the images of blacks in american media is not too positive, but in korea it does not apply becos while i was there, the blacks i saw on tv were not criminals or whatever, but most were artist, actors and most especially sports men...so that does not hold water dude..even most koreans dont like whites i remeber seeinbg so many anti-american rallies there.

  • i am not one of those narrow minded freaks that believe in racial supperiority, although i wont say i never had ,i remember the best student in my enginnerring dept was a refugee from sudan,i know if i saw a pic of him in africa, looking dirty and malnurished, i would have looked down on him,so i believe more in nurture, not nature

  • you would look down on a poor person?! a person with circumstances?

  • Angryantiracist that's still no excuse not to check your facts, I am tired of people using the White media as an excuse to be ignorant of other people's culture.

  • How am I using the media as an excuse for being ignorant of other people's cultures? Whose culture are you talking about? In fact, I'd say quite the opposite is true. The media obscures the vast array of cultures we have in the United States. And by culture, I don't mean things like beliefs, food, dance, art, etc. How are you going to tell someone who reads cultural studies that he's being ignorant of a culture?

  • Oh and did they ever talk about how White people aren't allowed to celebrate their culture without being called racist? Did you ever learn about how when a people of color invents something their race is credited with that but in our academic institutions white people are explicitly acknowledged for their incredible accomplishments? Oh of course not, because you belong to the cult of subversive fascism that is political correctness.

  • yeah dude KOREANS are racist as hell!!! im a korean american living in shanghai China, and i go to korea often. And if you actually experience korea long enough you'll find out that korea is really simple. They either will love you or hate you. Korea has never invaded another country but it has been invaded a lot. and in order to preserve their culture they had to be tough. They are tough on the outside but are really great once you know them. personally i think america's too complicated lol

  • flexyjeff is right. FUCK THE KOREANS AND THE FUCKING DIRTY JAPS. NOT ENOUGH JAPS DIED DURING THE BOMB IN WWII, AND WE NEED TO LET THOSE FUCKING SCUMBAG KOREANS KILL EACH OTHER.

  • japs are fucking worse than the nips, and koreans.

  • wow, that was a really great video.

    -subscribes-

hope you make more of these. its really helpful. also, whats the name of the person you referred to in your video who did ethological research?

  • Convincing. I'm subscribing.

  • my new account- RyuuKyuzo

  • Let's see everyone not by race but simply just by human beings or nationality. I am an American with asian descent and as a highschool student, I have to deal with racism everday but it doesn't stop me from getting the rights that I have as a citizen. I could only immagine why God created us all in different colors and such is so that we can learn to love eachother.

  • First of all, "Hispanic" is an inaccurate term for what you're trying to say. Secondly, you're still not taking into consideration regional discrepancies nor are you citing any real numbers from research...your statements are just speculation, not based on extensive research. In addition, culture clashes create environments in which one group is considered more important than another; you're upholding this dangerous status quo.

  • I would say that it's the neoliberal foreign policies combined with unchecked domestic corporatism. To say that undocumented workers are *colluding* with corporations is to say that they're somehow making decisions in the IMF/WB/WTO and in the US government.

  • good response! very insightful!

  • culture/race is not it. US is not the only country on this earth. certain minorities who r not successful in the US may be very successful in other countries. in the case of viets, in france (for one example) they are are 1 of the most successful. but in the US their success is split in the middle, with both extremes (those who are blue collar vs high class professionals). what matters is the specific circumstances each group may have faced in a particular country

  • The circumstances you mentioned, at least in the United States, are the laws and policies that I speak a little about. The US government has played a major role in creating blocks for people of color...success can only be reached by so many in that situation, right?

  • oh most def, I agree with your video. my response was in general to some of the comments.

  • Anyone who lives in the city has to put up with the same cost of living, regardless of color. If you really want to stop racism, then stop talking about it. Your not gonna convince a hardened KKK member that blacks are treated wrongly, your just gonna make him angry, and he's gonna cause yet more racism. The same goes for all cultures, for example no ones gonna convince you that your not actually racially oppressed, and that no one cares.

  • talking about these issues is a good way to vent out frustration as well as to promote awareness I think..because a lot of people aren't even aware to begin with

  • I like the fact that you're finally singling out that biological race has nothing to do with a certain race's political and socioeconomic success; it's more about the underlying culture of that race. Would you then say that some cultures are superior to others? For example, White and Asian cultures put a lot of emphasis on testing and doing well in school, but Black youth culture...not so much.

  • It's deeper than testing. Afrocentric culture has much more to do with relational experience and extended familial ties. Because the emphasis is on creating bonds, Afrocentric philosophy is seen as "lazy" in the eyes of Eurocentric philosophy, which places the emphasis on individual success through meritocratic systems. There's no such thing as superior cultures, either...some just work well in others and some don't work together at all.

  • i hope that asian people will kick white people's asses. Hopefully whites will become minorities and be oppressed so that they will soon know what it is like to be oppressed.

  • Interesting. And who's been oppressing you today, random minority? Besides that oppressive voice in your head, of course.

    Friggin looney. XD

  • Are you one of those sick white supremacists who go around with a chronic belief that every minority is anti-white or believe they're oppressed?

  • lol, your stupid. Asians couldn't make it through one city in the south before they were all dead.

  • Questions: How do you tear the political identity of "white" out of "white" people, their communities. and distinct white American culture (with various sub-cultures within it, of course)?

And how do you convince the entire African American culture that white people are no longer slave-having boogeymen out to get them and keep them from getting into school or access to jobs?

  • Those are really loaded questions....there are a lot of ways I can answer you. One of the best things we can do for anyone, no matter what their race may be, is to help them understand their own race in a positive light while not disparaging others. It's a difficult task...especially for white people.

  • Well, they're only loaded questions because I only have so much textual space (no more than 500 characters) to ask these questions. Feel free to break it down into chunks and answer bit by bit, if that suits you.

  • lol, there ya go again, being a racist towards whites. You haven't got a clue what your talking about, you've never been racially oppressed. Whites and Blacks came to your country to save you from the other half of it, and then you come and talk about us like that. Stupid Korean.

  • I'll like to know the contributions to this country from the Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, etc. In Richmond,VA they were going to give a Asian name to a street and they're outraged, African Americans were the first ones. Asian people have been in this country forever, can you find out. They helped build this country too, but it seems for the most part history has ignored them.

  • The first settlement was in Louisiana in 1760, before the United States "bought" it from France. It was a group of people from Manila, who abandoned ship from their Spanish captors. There's a book I recommend called "Strangers from a Different Shore" by Ronald Takaki.

  • Thank you for your recommendation.

  • They are working on honoring the slaves that were used to build the Monument and I thought that asian people were also used. I imagine that they probably know, but we don't have detailed information.

  • thankyou, many people don't understand, that African Americans have struggled, and being successful to them, is almost like selling out. It's very hard to humble yourself in a country that has continuously rejected you as a person.

  • I understand your position, but I think that African Americans need to open their arms to other racial groups. When I lived in Chesterfield VA we got racism from both parts. Some people say that they are happy that we're going through it; I'll never say that to anyone, it sounds revengenful. We should embrace each other.

  • Amen!! Awesome Vlog!

  • hear, hear!!

  • About China, china strongest value is CULTURE. China didn't want RELIGION because to CHINA, RELIGION cause Wars and Separation. China promote diversity and equality among all 56 Chinese Ethnic Groups. Think about America, are we being brainwashed to hate Communism because they believe in equality???

  • Everyone is the same to me. Everyone is equal and smart. People just happen to think differently because of how they were raised or what they were taught by their parents.

  • Asian Immigrants come to United States because of two things, first wave of Asian Immigrants came to America for economic reasons like job, money, etc... second wave of Asian Immigrants came to America because of political corruption in their native homeland and wars.

  • Those are very good observations...I should have mentioned the movement of political refugees, especially the Hmong and Khmer people.

  • As a first generation asian immigrant of Hmong descend, I agree with you on some of your points. Assimilation failed. Integration and Acculturation yes. Remember, Asian come in many groups and they all have different morals and values however, I notice two of Asian values are RESPECT and ACHIEVEMENT because our family struggle in their native homeland. Thank.

  • Thanks for your thoughts and information. Would be great to interview you sometime and get into the details of your argument. Annabel.

  • I love your views and your passion! Continue to strive for justice!
