  • That driver has titanium balls!

  • superb intuitive drive....only really missed one apex...*nods :)

  • He may have a Caterham R500, but I would reccommend that he buys a new camera.

  • @nikebauer1993 actually the video wasn't made in times of "HD camcorders" and things like that ;)

  • that catterham owns the track!

  • good lap,nearly15 seconds quicker than a alfa 147 turbo diesel.

  • @renorti The car is as fast around the track as a f430...

  • @patwhite132 I Think is fastest that any other production car... In a track obviously

  • Good driving, but next time try spending £100 less on the car and invest in a half decent camera.

  • respect to a true Brit car

  • Weighing all of 2 pounds.

Actually its something like 350kg, but thats still really light...

  • @RidgeRacerLord actually the lightest r500 was 460kg but most are about 505kg ;o)

  • @beastofackworth I'm sorry, I must be thinking of the Seven Firebird. I think that was 350kg.

  • quality sucks but the driving and the car are so amazing we still watch it...

nice to show the names of the track sections/corners

    @beralder9: exactly

  • Fofri Fofri

  • nice braking on the 4th to last corner man

  • this is probably the video on youtube with the biggest gap between video-quality / content-quality...

  • I wonder if there is any footage on Y-Tube showing a lap of this track with a open cockpit using a GoPro® camera ... ? allot of the old school camera's had a audio in-put plug ... then you choose where to put the microphone pic-up , and in this case would have been way better out of the rushing air turbulence ...

just saying . cool vid vid here ... this guy's fast , I would have crashed it .

  • Awsome driving,considering he's only had 5 laps prior.

  • 11 people drive SsangYong Rodiuses.

  • Very very impressive.....i'd rather be in a Porsche if it got stuff in a corner...but why would you by anything else...unless you want the air con & a nice Hi Fi.

  • Did I spot the whine of a supercharger later on in the vid ?

  • Why are there so many porsches parked on the track?

  • the course is a public road some people might be going that slow just enjoying there cars to there driving limits and that makes fast drivers even look faster.

  • Awesome

  • If they rebodied this like they did back with the 27 to make it more aerodynamic, this car would be even better. :P

  • @MaxClarkso Aerodynamics are for the weak. Real warriors doesn't need puny, futile things such as aerodynamic penetration or downforce to go fast.

  • IL MAESTRO!

  • i do wonder if it rains, will u get water inside your caterham?

  • @EVERLIVERPOOL

Between 30 and 80 mph it's fairly dry.

  • Simple fact the lighter the car the faster the acceleration !, power from the engine has to push less mass through the air ! Hence 0-60 in 2.9 secs !, the driver here is a competition driver you can tell that by how he sets the car up for every apex its spot on. He leaves all the other guys standing because his acceleration is so fast.

  • This is why a Caterham looks ugly. As it blasts past you, it warps light. This creates a visual distortion. This, combined with the very short time that it is within visible range, is what creates the ugly appearance.

  • Awesome machine - These things even sound super quick & are virtually unbeatable around a track !

Virtually unbeatable for fun & thrills too :)

  • Little British hot rod. Cool.

  • it's a f-kin shopping cart it should do what it does it's way lighter don't compare with porsche...

  • Yea, you'd think 2300 HP with 460Kg would be a wee bit quicker out of turns & on str8s

  • now this guy can drive!!!!!

  • Just think, if it wasn't for the brain of Anthony Colin Bruce Chapman we would never have had this little, wonderful car.

  • darklogic NOOB so many caterham exist and diferent drivers.. pORSCHE HAS NO CHANCE LOSSER !b 6

  • darklogic NOOB so many caterham exist and diferent drivers.. pORSCHE HAS NO CHANCE LOSSER !

  • Very nice video =)

On a technical note. Try having a microphone record the sound from the passenger seat or t here abouts, I don't think a dead kitten would help too much at such speeds, but in the passenger seat, I think you could get proper engine sound :)

  • its funny how people make fun of this cars look, yet they cant keep it in sight very long hehehe

  • @worldtravel101 I don't get it. I think it looks awesome! And it sounds great, and it's fast, and handles well, what more could you ask for? A naked woman in the passenger seat? :P

  • @SpeedFreakNO that would be a nice addition haha. yeah ive seen many bash on the way this car looks, but what i meant in my other comment is they cant keep it in sight very long, because IT GOES LIKE MAD! haha :)

  • @SpeedFreakNO Yeah, I got that :) But I don't get why people bash its looks. It looks great! And with everything else about it being great as well, what more could one ask for from a car :) The only thing I could think of was a naked woman in the passenger seat :P

  • I remember when this used to seem good quality...Still, it's a great video.

  • That is some damn good driving.

  • Favourite car, it's like a damn fly!

  • Fantastic. :-)

  • Oh lord won't you buy me a Caterham Superlight

  • Nice driver, quick lap.

  • And he passed the stupid mazda, and tosser bmws!

  • I timed this with my cell phone and I got a time of 8:14.22 for this Lap.

  • more peanut butter on the microphone next time :D

  • lap time?

  • Can't believe i was in the only car to pass this cat..... Blink and you'll miss it though ;)

  • Wonderful control before Schwedenkreuz ( 1:26 )! You can see the car losing grip because of the bump but he kept it on the road.

Very aggressive in the right corner after Ex Mule (3:30).

And damn fast into the Caroussel (4:55) and the jump before Pflamzgarten (6:25).

    Nice driving.

  • street cars are great on the street, but a racecar belongs on a race track.

  • Lovely Caterham thrash! Good effort.

  • get out of the way!!!!!

  • If you got "BALLS" , then this is the car for you!

  • Awesome lap pal, especially for your 5/6th time; my 20th time was nothing like that but suppose you are driving a great car (excuses, excuses lol). You can nock a minimum of 20 secs of that run if you get used to the track properly!!

  • Amazing.

One thing however, those headlights must do havoc on aerodynamics :D

  • ha, its nice seeing all the porsches getting hammered by a proper car :)

  • damn i want one of these

  • i wonder how that guy felt in that lmp he passed at 1:16

  • Nice lap mate! Going to the ring for my 30'th can't wait!

  • Anyone else notice the sound cuts out at 7:36 because of wind noise. He's flying around the track, passing everyone AND now he's going faster!

  • ど的で的ビル

  • That was a bloody brilliant video to watch. God those Caterham's are fun to have.

  • Great ride.Thank you and it was cool how you put the name of each section down too.Well done!

  • This is not an r500.everyone is commenting on price and models like they know what they are talking about.a simple observation at the beginning of this video shows it was filmed in 2001.....a fair few years before the r500 was produced.the bars give away it's true identity........nice lap though

  • a helluva lap

    take five

  • i wannaaaaaaaa be in the passenger seat !!

  • mi proximo capricho sera unos de estos xDDD.... increible!

  • ど根性!良く回るエンジン‼ 戦略的で知的にモビルスーツをコントロールしてるよう

  • what was the time it did

  • That was very cool,

    as fast as a motorcycle.

At that speed, I'd feel safer w/o all the novice traffic.

  • Balls of cold steel...Great cars.

  • haha, lol at drafting that poor car at 7.33..

I bet the driver shit his pants thinking you would go straight into him

  • Great video.

  • ever since i read a review in R&T, I've wanted one. sweet car, super quick.

  • Are these things legal to drive in the U.S.? Indiana in particular. and how much $ do they cost?

  • yeah, they are street legal.

  • Well, an entry level caterham (still fast, 0 - 60 in 6 secs) would cost you around 30,000 USD. The R500 like in this vid starts at 43,000 USD and with options reaches 45,000. There's not a lot of retailers here either, you'd have to drive to Illinois.

    They are good fun though.

  • they are a british car this type is the r500 2.0l 263bhp i think they only come in manual...i hope

you can get as a kit car too. i think the normal non-kit cost around 62,000$ u prob have to pay some shipping stuff too, they a good car it light comes with carbon-fibre parts as stock,0-60mph is 2.88 seconds, top speed is 150mph,and the thing weighs like 500kg!!are you gonna use it on the track or on road and if road well im sure it gets loud and wanna make sure u have a windshield otherwise da bugs

  • legak to drive in europe write to the constructors and ask about US they cost arround 37 k $ depends on the $ price

  • completely legal, and around 70 grand. not bad considering they'll absolutely murder most multi-hundred thousand dollar sports cars.

  • checkout super7cars on the internet canadian company that makes many different models they have the rights from caterham to build

  • just google caterham, and go to their site.

its cheaper if you build it yourself, and they just send you peices

  • the radical sr8 is the owner of the record ¬¬

  • Haha, at 4:06, just blows past another seven.

  • he KILLED HUGE FUCKING FLY at 6:14

  • give this to Drift King Keiichi @ Touge Down Hill I'm sure this thing will rip up the Touge Down Hill Race

  • thats insane!

  • Certainly the Caterham has a great power to weight ratio for good acceleration at lower speeds (say under 100mph), and a nice low weight for great cornering. But once you get above about 100mph, power to drag ratio becomes more important, and with a relatively modest power output and poor aerodynamics, it's not as quick accelerating as many heavier more powerful cars above 100mph. This will hurt this car's time at the 'Ring given there are so many high speed, full throttle sections.

  • emagine drivin a radical round there

  • Hey different cars are quick on different tracks and full respect to the R500 for a brave lap for a newish driver !! But the R 500 does loose out on top end due to its gearing and loose's mega time through Kesselchen and Dottinger Hohe. As we all know a GTR R35 with a test driver can do a 7.26 and a Porsche GT3 can do a 7.39 so how can a r500 what does a 7.55 be faster!! On a track day with more traffic an R35 has done a sub 8 min lap!!!! And that is a very heavy car!!

  • Now thats a Porsche eater

  • Great driving !

  • The overtake at about 39 seconds was ridiculously stupid... The R500 wud wipe the floor with everything there, n my dad sprints and hillcimbs with the lotus 7 club speed championship so i no wot i am tlkin about...

  • Great car and great driving

  • just one porsche after another gets ripped

  • calm down dear, its only a youtube comment.

  • firstly i am not a kid and secondly it was a joke for fucks sake. you defend porsche like its your wife

  • dude seriously calm down, is just a comment, and you are making this personal. chilldown dude enjoy youtube.

  • haha dude wtf? Seriously have a word with yourself! Show me ANY production porsche that could live with the 500 on the ring? lol

  • I think you'll find that R500 was tested in later 1999 ;) I'm not sure what planet you are living on, but a car with half the power to weight and 2.5x the weight is never going to lap a track faster... do the maths sweety.

  • @dombou70 by your figures that means the Caterham has 0.4x the power. It also has a pretty poor drag coefficient, as well as a lack of downforce at speed. On a lot of tracks the R500 seems to be nearly unbeatable by any other road car, but it's not suited to win on EVERY track. I don't know what other car you're referring to but it sounds like it can win on the right track. BTW, R500 = one of my dream cars.

  • your just a a hole wther or no ure right or wrong :-)

  • wow get a life. if you take youtube comments seriously you should just do us all a favor and shot yourself. caterhams rule and porches are for guys with small dicks. go play warcraft and shut the fuck up!!

  • well said, weeeeell said!

  • Hey I saw your retarded comment and thought I'd chime in.

The Caterham did a 1:20.20 on the Bedford Autodrome West Circuit. The Porsche Carrera GT did a 1:23.30. The Porsche 997 GT did a 1:23.50.

    The Caterham did a 1:17.9 on the Top Gear track. Carrera GT - 1:19.8. 997 GT2 - 1:19.5.

If you don't understand the physics behind what makes cars fast than keep your stupid little mouth shut dumbass.

  • @Darklogic112358 ===CK. OUT BRUNTON STALKER 1460 LBS. V6 3.8 LITER

SUPERCHARGED 0 TO 60 3.0 SEC. GREAT LOTUS 7 REPLICA 1/2 THE PRICE OF CATERHAM AND WESTY. RON IN MIAMI=====================

  • @Darklogic112358 Well I made love to my girlfriend in 1:16:53.

  • awesome lap, awesome car

  • Launch velocity at the end there....wow!

  • By Jimmy Cricket that boy can drive!! Would love to see him have a stab in the Caterham Levante....

  • guys i'm looking for a hq picture, of a lap around this track, non existent

  • Go to supercarmovies(dot)com - videos are in high quality though annoyingly from the inside. If you want to learn the track, and have a good enough PC, buy GTR Evolution with Race 07.

  • well done man. 5 stars!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Certainly won't take away from his driving but it sure seems like he's in a run with a bunch of German Sunday drivers? Geeze. Top end of any Caterham is not that fast, quick yes, superb handling yes, fast no, at 130-140 it's darn right scary. Would love a shot with the Sunday drivers in my E55 with race rubber ;-)

  • 150 - especially as it's aero screened.

I used to have an 340bhp Audi S8 and a 1700 SuperSprint Caterham with a measly 135bhp. There was no comparison other than on the motorway. It would be a long straight before anything caught an R500.

  • That said - I take your point.

Along the final straight they do seem to be out for Sunday drive ;-)

  • what about the ariel atom?

  • The Caterham Superlight R500 is about 256hp (ya, that is it), it goes 0-60 in 2.88 and 0-100 in 11.66, that is 2 secs Faster then a Porsche 911 twin turbo (stock). I am looking for one now to buy. People who owns them, will not get rid of it.

  • cool idea, but you wouldn`t be allowed to drive race rubber on tourist sundays...

  • Wouldn't this car generate lift at speeds?

It's very boxy and doesn't look like it has any wings to keep it on the ground. Also it's very light, so..?

BTW, not dissing the car, just simple questions.

  • Yea, The headlights act as wings by there shape. So many owners put lips on the car to keep it down.

  • nice driving! i read that this car gets max power at 8,000 rpm, but it sure sounds like ur going 10-11000 at times. Pretty crazy for a Ford engine

  • not a ford engine.. custom built caterham 1.8 max rev @9200

  • Great lap! Very enjoyable.

Were you allowed to have a camera on board? I read video and pictures were not allowed.

Stable image. How did you mount the camera?

This summer I'd like to tape laps in my CSR. However, I will NOT time laps actively and I do NOT expect to achieve anything worth mentioning. Safety first, speed second. The Nürburgring is not to be messed with.

I'll would probably try and protect the microphone from wind noise.

  • This was taken before the video/camera ban.

  • I've heard the r 500 is a 2L Ford engine..What engine is it than?a cosworth without turbo?

I always thought Caterham used BMW engines.Anyway, you can get them pretty cheap if your a good mechanic and build it yourself..looks like fun for the weekends.

  • It is a 2lt engine but it's not he Cosworth. it's the Duratec.

I don't believe they have ever used BMW engines.... mainly Ford, Vauxhall and Rover K series.

  • Ok thx for the intel.

  • I'm from Belgium, cars that are not made by the constructor itself, they tend to tell you they don't have the tools etc to work on another car than their own brand guess u know a lot about Caterham,i just have a couple of questions, first of all,say i buy a Caterham...Can you go to a Fordgarage for maintaining the engine, fresh oil, filter etc at least for the engine part?

  • Yes you can, although purchasing the recomended parts yourself and then having a mechanic fit them.

  • I'm not much of an engineer allthough i do know some mechanics, but i'd prefer a specialist in this sort of cars.

Second, ive heard about the 7-series with the Firblade engine and the Hayabusa,i ride mc's every day,but i wonder if those are street legal? If u know please tell me thx ;-)

  • @EasyOO7 isnt cosworth from ford?

    but nice movie!

  • @delijn57th Not anymore. Cosworth became independent of ford in 2004. they still make upgraded ford engines, though

  • @delijn57th Yes it's a pinto block with a Cosworth designed head

  • @EasyOO7 an R500 hasnt got a pinto! lol a pinto is a 70s ford engine that never saw a cosworth engineer, this car will have either a 2 litre vauxhall engine, (doubtful) more a duratec ford engine

  • @Greenwood4365 I know it's not a pinto... i think the original comment is now on page 7 or something but i stated it's a duratec!! Was the cosworth engine really not a pinto block? I thought it was.....

  • @delijn57th cosworth worked on some subarus too if i remember right

  • @EasyOO7 same one then the new mondeo :)

  • the original r500 was a rover k series on throttle bodies, heavily modded, and had 250 bhp,the new r500 is a ford duratec engine, caterham have never used bmw engines..

  • Nice lap of the ring in just over 8 Min's despite being blocked by several times by slow cars porsche's BMW M3's etc etc i think you could knock a minute off that time if the track was closed to other traffic there is no road car anywhere in the world that goes around corners like this It is the best track car ever built.

  • fool the R500 is an open top sports car how exactly are you going to get good audio in a open top car at those speeds......goodness me some people!

  • Wow, that's certainly not your father's Lexus now is it? ;)

Quite a ride. Awesome video. Thanks for posting.

  • the e30 m3 you passed is beautiful

  • Love the way he Caterham slides the rear just perfectly around the bends.... that car is awesome to drive... got the chance once, loved it.

  • Great footage my friend, awesome.

  • 30 thousand will get you a really good second hand one. Brand new 35 thousand. GBP

  • your a liar of course it hasnt got 2 thousand three hundred and fifty eight horse power. you're full of shit get a life

  • It's 235BHP. Your eyes are full of shit, get help reading.

  • FAIL

  • That has to be the most awesome lap of the nordsleife ive ever seen, i cant even get around there as quick as that on forza!!

  • That grip ! Fantastic!

  • caterham r500 was faster than buggati veyron on topgear

  • what time he does?

  • There are rubish comments. At the ring, lines are everything. If u can't stay in the track, u are obviously a novice. In the game i found a solution 4 the bumps by using very soft springs. And more charge in the dampers. Most cars it works. The wheels are always in contact with the floor.

  • LukeXgamer, ain't no supercharger on these engines, just fuel injection (or twin carbs on simpler cars like mine...)

  • throttle bodies to be presice ;)

  • Was that a minivan he passed around 4:00? :-D

  • Might be a Subaru Forester. Idk.

  • The only way i was able to drive that route was on Gran Turismo 4, but i did it in 6.40s. It's weird to see the course and know where all the turns are!

  • haha yea same, its almost like you "know" the track, but with no skill of course. I do the same thing in Forza Motorsport.

    Love
