  • J'étais là!!!

  • the clapton-fro is quality like

  • clapton is really showing some emotion in this performance, hes actually moving!! incredible solo to

  • These guys are trippin beyond the scales

  • @HermannRubartV It is obvious. But musically they are still great beyond the scale.

  • @Chernykh1000 This music is ABOUT beyond the scales, so they did it just right.

  • Clapton. Very intense dude in this performance.

  • me like 2000's cream much more than 60's cream.

  • @BlandBoy hahaha!

  • Not that its a bad thing, but I feel like a lot of drugs were going through this group

  • You gotta love the fro on Clapton.Every body wanted to be like Jimi even Eric Clapton.

  • the person who was filming was really feelin'' iiiit haha

  • @Cynporro first headbanger ever?

  • Cool eastern melodies by Jack!

  • This is the earliest live *video* of Clapton after the Yardbirds clip. Its actually more in character to Clapton's true influence on modern guitar tone and style.

  • PsuperGollyFraggingliciousPsychedelAudacious

  • Humbling to see Eric Clapton count time.

  • 3 words: A Danelectro Bass!

  • Clapton's solo at 0:58 is one of his best in or out of the studio, in my opinion.

  • At this time, and in this place...Cream owned the world. They stood supreme at the top of Rock's Mt. Olympus...Thanx so very much for this incredible slice of history.

  • @latawie I bought Fresh Cream in early '67 right about the time of this recording and was absolutely blown away by the "Woman Sound" of Clapton's guitar and the blend of their voices. This was a period of innovation led by the Beatles and began reaching a new level in live performance by others like Hendrix at Monterey Pop and ultimately at Woodstock. Things were moving out of the studio and into anti Viet Nam war demonstrations attracting huge crowds. It was political as well as musical.

  • doesnt get better than this

  • Baker looks like he should be riding with the Hardin gang...circa 1880...

  • eric clapton has had the biggest amount of hair styles ever! haha

  • 3:41 ...and I love the nod that Clapton gives Bruce to end the song. As a gigging musician, I simply love a group's communication onstage.

  • Ginger is great in this. I love the fact that he has a drumstick and a mallet.

  • I saw Jack Bruce tonight......and he played this. LOVE :D it

And yes the human race is going wrong

  • i look so young haha ginger

  • treasure!

  • Now this is how I want to remember Eric

  • I love Jack's Danelectro Longhorn bass!

    I want one! Haha :P

Awesome video by the way! :)

  • can someone repost with louder volume , please?

  • Were Cream the first of the British Invasion not to wear a uniformed suit and tie?

  • @elpatoymio ,

    No, the Rolling Stones were.

  • Talk about handling your instrument and playing together - thanks Ginger, Bruce - Clapton - This musik gives resonnance to everyone on earth that can hear - even today.

  • Simply the best..

  • Me cago en el realizador!!

  • The otherwoldiness of this performance has to do with the LSD they're on.

  • all out their minds !! brilliant

  • HOTTEST BAND EVER ! jeez

  • I love this song, so perfectly conceived and executed - Baker's extravagant drumming, Bruce's soulful agonized tenor/falsetto, the verse-long crescendos, the immediate yet minimalist lyrics - how can that not ever hurt you to your heart, to find out, somehow anyhow, this day, that your love is going wrong - that is True Blues

  • @varpeter01 Your evaluation I'm sure would be devastating to him if he saw it...I mean, look at what a marvelous career you've had at Jack in the Box or whatever minimum wage job you work at.

  • @GWENKER damn dude. hahaha

  • @GWENKER looks like the acid was cut with speed

  • @varpeter01

I don't think he was ever that a good guitar player let alone a musician. He's so overrated it's not even funny.

  • @sluv2600 All music splits and divides opinion, what fires one persons rockets may send another into a temporary depression, its always been this way.The sheer numbers of Erics supporters and fans over the decades puts him and his music firmly in the all time greats category.

If you truly believe that his guitar playing was and is "never that good" i suggest you learn to play a guitar yourself.

What? you already do?Im sorry mate but IVE NEVER HEARD OF YOU.

  • @Chubcatcher ... May I respectfully add that it's not really the music that divides, but rather the human ego with its endless comparisons and identifications.

  • @varpeter01

    huh?

my chevy is a great car, but a lousy automobile... der der der...

  • @varpeter01 Clapton has alwaysbeen a good musican. He was chosen for Cream over John Maglauhlin in spite of his not being a jazz or fusion player because he has perfect intonation. He has shown up on time ready to play and done a good job forover 40 years. He is reliable enough that promoters have never had qualms about wether he would show up when ever and where ever ready to perform. These are all aspects of being a real musican instead of a wanker.

  • This video is sweet! Thanks for uploading! And is it just me or does Eric seem to be tripping? Not that I'd judge him, a lot of people were doing that at the time.

  • @slowmonkey156

they all look like they are tripping....especially baker

  • something always disturbed me

how could clapton have a fro then straight hair then a fro then straight hair?? XD

  • @SamuBolado Try not to worry too much about it??

  • @SamuBolado he had it permed

  • This is either the heaviest mellow song ever or the mellowest heavy song ever. Either way I've always loved it's dark disturbing mood. Awesome to see it live. Thanks for posting it.

  • Thank you so much for this posting - they were so freakin fantastic!!! who cares about the hair - its the music!! the music!!!!

  • So why is everyone talking about hairstyles while such a great performance by such a great band is playing?

  • Clapton was the second person in London with that hair, and he got it because of Jimi, I watched him say that in an interview like 10 mins ago... so shhh.

  • DRUG DRUG DRUG not Fine

  • @JUNkabu SO DONT LISTEN TO ANY MUSIC FROM PRE 90 YOU IDIOT

  • JUNkabu - LOL ...Mongo want heroin!

  • Looks like Clapton was taking some clothing & hair cues from

    Jimi Hendrix here... (hmmmmmm....)

  • @fonkfiend

You've got it backwards... This was in '67

    Hendrix was imitating Clapton

  • Clapton met Hendrix in 66, before what you see above, and I am going to take a wild leap here and suggest Hendrix had an afro style hair style before Clapton did.

    It is just a hunch...

  • Hendrix hairstyle wasn't Afro yet. That came later. Both Hendrix and Clapton copied Bob Dylan's hairstyle. Jimi said he used to use hair curlers to get that look.

  • Um,... Are you really going to try and claim Hendrix, who naturally had a "fro" was copying Clapton, who had to get a perm to get a fro?

As stated,...Clapton first saw Hendrix in ~66. Have any pics of Clapton with a fro from 65?

  • have u ever seen the cover of electric ladyland..perm not a fro y does he naturally hav a fro cuz hes black?

  • Of course he naturally had a Fro you effin' moron. A fro is the default of hair for people of African descent. The fro was adapted in the 60's as a way of no longer embracing hair styles of whites in the black community. It was a way of getting back to their roots, (no pun intended). The word comes from the word "Afro" as in "Afro-American," as meaning an American of African descent.

The style was based on no longer treating one's hair to make it straight as in whites...

    Dumbass

  • Comment removed

  • @vsister

Who the hell said Eric was? We were talking about Jimi Hendrix moron...

  • Oh, the, "I had to use curlers" bit Jimi said, was a joke...

  • Ha ha ha! It was a cool hairstyle, wasn't it?

  • yesssssssssssss....

  • Aw come on, it was Nixon imitating Agnew imitating Clapton -

    (little known fact.)

  • you guys, clapton even said in an interview he got a perm to try and look like hendrix. ive read many bios and they all say after he met jimi he went back to jack and ginger and suggested that one of them should have a fro and they werent going to do it.

  • Precious footage. So glad to see the camera on Jack Bruce, ....so good looking and such a voice!

  • Huckleberry got it right... Jack just let it out live. This was the popular thing to do then. Nice and pretty in the studio, and wild, compulsive ad lib in concert. Rarely doing the same song the same way live.....

  • I don'[t know how old all you people are but you have to remember that when this was filmed there was no such thing as stage monitors.you could'nt hear athing you were singing.think about that the next time you see a clip of the beatles singing in perfect harmony in front of ascreaming audience.

  • @Huckleberryj - thanks and absolutely correct. The reason the Beatles were so incredibly right on in concert is because they had played 3 sets a night 7 nights a week in Hamburg and had become as tight as possible before they became famous. McCartney has said several times that they absolutely could not hear themselves while in concert at Shea Stadium or anywhere else.

This is great historical footage, thank you for posting it!

  • @Huckleberryj Exclellent point man...I am old enough to to have been to many concerts in the 60's and can attest to what you are saying..

  • @GWENKER so true... and what about effects on guitars, i mean today it's quite easy to get a very good tone with loads of effects. Back in the day you had to plug in and go... all in the fingers

  • @Huckleberryj Totally agree (33:)

  • @Huckleberryj absolutely - and why is it so many of today's 'artists' can't sing in tune live even when they have 'in-ear' monitors? Watch the old clips of Cream/John Mayall etc appearing on USA shows where they had to mime - they hated it, because they were real musicians, and miming was considered an insult to their ability.

  • @Huckleberryj

Wasn't that a part of the reason that the Beatles quit playing live...? Their audiences became so big and loud they couldn't hear themselves on stage any more, and with the equipment back in the day, it wasn't possible to go much louder.

  • @Huckleberryj Yep! they were just hearing it in their heads with just distorted drums through the noise to keep time with. Monitors were rare! I love their dark stuff! 'Deserted Cities Of The Heart' is in a similar vein. Love to have seen 'em. I think many don't realise the conditions on stage in those days. They are too used to TV studios of the now producing AUTOTUNED music. For it is not only vocals that are AUTOTUNED(bless Adele for not using it on her last single btw.hope it will inspire)

  • All Eric had to do was count off and change on the 1.

  • we're going wrong!! bit of an understatement.lol..

  • Comment removed

  • My god...I feel drunk watching this, and ive only had tea :(

  • WILD!!!!!

  • i love this, they are having soo much fun playing-it really shows in this perfomance

  • I think Eric is wishing that Ginger would tone it down a bit with the drums, he still does that thing (eric) with his finger even now days.

  • wow, heavy cream

  • Excellent. Great performance...

  • Too bad they didn't have Auto Tune back then. ;-p

  • what? :O !!!!!

  • and who the fuck has auto tune in a live situation these days?

  • Well, Kanye West. The Black Eyed Peas, probably all of the rappers who think they can sing. People do use it live all the time. Certainly Jack Bruce could have used it here since his intonation is atrocious. Don't get me wrong, I love Cream. I played Cream covers in my band back when most of you were still sucking on your mom's teat.

  • man. if you haven't figured out that its not always about being in tune but the feeling, then the experience and wisdom your comment alluded to is all for nil. have a nice death

  • You're an idiot. I made a joke about Jack Bruce being out of tune, which you admit, and you make a comment about nobody using Auto Tune live, and I proved you wrong. Now you're wishing me a nice death. Well, fuck you. Fuck you very much.

  • Comment removed

  • Well, whatever the problem with Bruce's vocal is, it's certainly not up to the level of quality of his studio work. It does still sound out of tune though through much of it.

  • good call

  • they look nuts in this

  • ...it was the 60s...

  • wow.

Eric looks like an englishman hanging on for dear life to his own music....

    acid....

  • One of the best rock videos I've seen, they mean what they're playing, they mean business. 99% of these bands today don't even compare.

  • The druming is fuckin awesome bad to the bone

  • The (A) psychedelic SG is what Eric should of played at the reunion tour!

  • Unfortunately he loaned that guitar to Jackie Lomax right after Cream broke up. Eventually it ended up in Todd Rundgrens hands.

  • @GWENKER he should have knocked on Rundgrens door and said "HELLO its me!" and swiped it..

  • @glueforall haha. it's legal for clapton to do that to anyone, for anything they have, at anytime.

  • There is Jack Bruce looking beautifully handsome and sounding like the greatest of the great, which is what he was and is and always will be, the cream of The Cream.

  • ive never seen eric look so mean and aggressive, bad ass

  • i think eric was pissed and was taking it out on bruce thorugh the music. where did i hear this? I think in eric's autobio

  • He's just trying to be a showman like Hendrix. But he's not...he's conservative.

  • hes not trying to be anything like hendrix sweety pie. hes eric clapton

  • eric looks constipated

  • wow

  • Everybody is all googaa about Clapton's perm, but the first thing I notice when I watch this (and I apologize in advance if I am not the first one to notice this) is his.............well..............

    .......Camel-toe, anyone?

  • you notice his crotch before anything else?

  • I found out today.... we had it right.....peace love and music!

  • Ype, Clapton can sowl all he likes, but he doesn't look badass in the perm. Never liked this song vocally or lyrically, but the playing is good. Dig the Longhorn bass!

  • Eric Clapton !! what happened to your hair man........

  • THIS ROCKS!!

  • Is Clapton wearing a wig during this period or is it a perm? Serious question.

  • Perm. Apparently he wanted to copy Jimi that much. Question is, if Jews have Jewfros, what do misguideed hippies have?

  • Hippos!

  • Genius!

  • Ahh....Eric Clapton! When he still cared about making MUSIC instead of making money.

  • ginger baker is amazing

  • they seems so high in that one

  • sensational. one of my favorites. Ginger is a fricken genius.

  • oh awesome ... clapton, one of those dudes with no truly recognizable faces ... always showing up recent years with different faces ... here, working on a very early version ... comments herewith not a mock, just technical comment

  • i love this song... jack sang it so well, and the drums simply make the song. it REALLY could use some keys though, for it very much lacking composure, then again, they were a trio supergroup :\

fun fact: Eric Clapton wanted Steven Winwood to join Cream as a keyboard player! imagine how freakin' awesome that would have been!!

it's also cool that Ginger is using one normal drumstick and one hammerthingy (sorry i dont know the name, i dont play drums)

WHAT KINDA BASS DOES JACK HAVE?

  • iuts a dan electro, they just reisued those

  • Well, we know how it turned out when Eric and Steven finally did get together don't we? One great album and then SPLITSVILLE!

  • LOL!!!! it's REALLY funny that you said that... last night i saw them BOTH in concert, freakin unbelievable

  • Ginger rules, Clapton is a Master as well as Jack.

    Those were the days!!!

  • great footage !!!

of a great band, looks like quite a workout for Ginger, ha!

  • Jack BRUCE number ONE bassist in ROCK ...........

  • He-s good man but Entwhistle is the best

  • i dont know who THAT is, but im SUR he couldn't sing as well as Jack :P he's my favorite singer next to winwood and clapton(growlin' blues :))

  • John Entwhistle of The Who...but Jack's good, man..respect

  • Clapton had his hair permed around April 1967. Jack Bruce is credited as saying that Eric wanted one of the band to have a perm (presumably to look like Hendrix) but Bruce declined. Now he says in retrospect he is glad he didn't get a perm as he has "seen the photos".

  • Some guy named " idolzombi " has a better copy of this video as well as several other great copies of other Cream videos .

  • Thanks for the tip, mate! I'll check him ouot.

  • The 60's had great groups like Cream while today we get garbage like the Jones Brothers . By the way why was my earlier comment mark as Spam ?

  • you could also say oranges are orange. thats why it was marked as spam :D

  • Great rare video , hope someone can find more footage from that concert . Cream is the best .

  • Interesting observation . I've got to wonder too as to why Clapton and Bruce were on opposite sides of the stage from where they usually were . Also why was your comment marked as Spam ? It looks like a valid comment to me .

  • Why was Highpoint211's comment marked as Spam ? I think he had a good point with his comment about the sides of the stage Clapton and Bruce were on .

  • Comment removed

  • what an electrifying performance...clapton was really into it which I have never seen before during a live show. Ginger is a master and Jack's basslines are sick

  • come back to the mothership Ginger!!!!

  • I hope a few more songs from this gig gets posted.

  • While the hairstyle and clothes were influenced by Hendrix, the stage moves were not (otherwise he'd play with his teeth and set his guitar on fire). Clapton has always been inconsistent; if he's (presumably) in a good mood he'll be energetic on stage, and if he's in a bad/nervous mood he'll stand still more.

  • jack playing a longhorn..sounds nice

  • Ginger's getting a real workout behind that set of drums.

  • Thumbs down? Why?

  • Comment removed

  • hmm. Your comment is marked with a red -6. Was wondering why.

  • Clapton makes me cry when he starts his solo, mind blowing stuff!

  • Know exactly what you mean - that tone makes the hairs on the back of my neck shoot up. You can literally feel the emotion in his playing and no I don't do drugs haha!

  • Beautiful tone, Clapton is playing the legendary "Fool" SG. Amazing!

  • mindblowing song....gingers style is outrageous

  • The same stoned camera man seemed to follow cream around.

  • No doubt-and this same guy made their Farewell concert footage almost unwatchable. It irritated the crap out of me!
