It was made to made to degrade Black Americans, intentions were to be negative..this time period they HATED black americans. Elmer Fudd's was never based on stereotype(race), I mean anyone who knows real history and stereotypes can pick up on them by the way he's talking, uncontrollable gambling..etc. Even the way he's drawn, they felt that black people were not human (literally) often calling them monkeys and would draw a character like this way to put them down that's why it's offensive =P
I see nothing wrong with this in terms of racism. If its not racist because of this reason, its racist because of that reason. If they don't have a black character, its racist because it don't have any blacks. Then if they have a black person that acts like what white people are used seeing whites act as, then its a white-washed black. black people tend to notice when a white person is near them. white people tend to notice that a black person is around. Black, white, asian, arab, who cares?
The main difference between this hunter and Elmer Fudd is that Elmer's flaws and jokes NEVER HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH HIM BEING WHITE. Yet look what we have here; from his walk, the way he speaks, and the joke near to the end of the cartoon with his uncontrollable urge to play craps, all of his gags come from black stereotypes.
Now, I'm not saying that funny black people can't exist in cartoons, but to depict them all the same way with the same prejudice opinions is not the way to do it.
This cartoon went a tad too far because it exaggerated the speech and mannerisms of this little kid and portrayed it as a black stereotype. This was more acceptable back then but times were a lot different back then too. I can see how some people might be offended by this. I was more shocked at the dice game at the end and the almost-full nudity, especially when Bugs removed the fig leaf. The Hays office must have been out to lunch or completely clueless to let the ending gag go through.
you people make me sick.... everything has to turn racism, when we were grown up watching these one word comes to mind and thats "funny"..... society got you all analyzing everything now, nothing can be played without someone saying something stupid about color..................... and btw i'm a black man, so enjoy the shyt and get over it dang
This is the cleanest print of this cartoon I've seen. (Not to mention I only saw this cartoon for the first time a few months ago), but this is superior to whatever print I saw at first.
So what. Are we going to die because this is being shown? Are black people really going to be scared watching this. No...so big freaking deal! It's a part of history and no one should have the right to ban it. Don't watch it. I am offended by rap songs that promote violence, sex, and drug sales. Do we ban it...NO!!!! I just turn the freakin station.
I think that this cartoon story shows the spirit of this epoch, in which the racialism was reigning enough. If they were transmitting it today, the organizations of human rights would complain opposite to a caricature how are you. Greetings of Santiago de Chile.
Pretty good. still had that hilarious as any other toons of its time which have yet to be surpassed. But the black stereotypes were awful and that dice joke was very offensive.
I don't see how cartoons such as these are racist. Sure, they portray blacks as stupid with exaggerated features, but this is how most of these characters look and behave anyway. Look at Hollywood Steps Out, the caricatures in that are just as exaggerated as any of their supposedly 'racist' characters. The hunter in this film is treated no differently than Elmer Fudd or Porky Pig would be.
@toxie95 The difference is the jokes have to do with him being BLACK white people will probably never understand racism because they'll never be put in that position
This is classic and funny. Even if it is racist (who cares?) and you're offended you still have to admit it's entertaining and funny. Lighten up.

I would say that Elmer Fudd is white... I know I know, it's difficult to see it, but I'm almost sure that Elmer Fudd is white.

The black Elmer Fudd cartoon was produced by Leon Schlesinger, A JEW, not whites. Watch the cartoon to the end and you'll see his name.
