i forgot.. the zx processor z80 was used too incredibility on an music apparat, digitech ips33... i opened it and it used this processor.. it was an old guitar harmonizer, pitch shitfer..
i had this game on my zx sinclair "with pistol".. the spectrum had a superior processor than 64. just the zx was no project for games. the processor was more quicly and write programs was more easy. zx wronged when changed a chip, this caused the bad colors with the computer, for example when blue and yellow was nearly, they mixed or something like this.. nice times.. im sad..
the c64 version was the best one, I never saw the speccy one.. BUT the best very appart from the arcade was the PC engine version.. was pretty much the same as the arcade =)
The PC engine was very good, but the ultimate home conversion was on a little known home computer called the Sharp X68000. I have many arcade conversions on my Sharp, and they are all pretty much 100% arcade perfect. I doubt you would be able to get hold of the actual computer anymore, let alone the Pacland floppy, I have had mine for years and have not seen any about on eBay for ages, but you may be able to find some videos of it.
ah I just looked up the x68000 . was out in 87.. guess it was the time of the amiga / st.. same motorola cpu ? but only out in japan.. so no wonder I missed it.. I did the the errm turbo graphics at a friends house, the portable pc engine.. although do you remember the matel aquaris? hehe all of 2 games that were amazing at the time, dungeons and dragons as well as burger time. The c64 version did impress me in the sense of I do a bit of ASM , so it was a nice conversion.
I remember seeing the arcade version of this,it seemed very smug bright and a bit glitzy. The sorta monachromeness was also a bone of contention in wec le mans for me..
I remember playing pole position and was amazed.. and commando and star strike.. hhm although the c64 I liked for driving games.. buggy boy , pitstop 2, turbo outrun to name but 3.. the original outrun on c64 was pretty sh**
It came out about a year after the C64 version (which was excellent and far better than the 16 bit ports). Apparently they had some trouble getting it off their development machines and the original version did scroll. That's why the graphics are monochrome (anyone who knows about the Speccy knows that it had far more problems with colour scrolling games. Had Pac-Land originally been planned out as a flick screener, this would have had far better graphics)
this was a brilliant conversion on the speccy, beat some of the 16 bits, it's an insult that you comment on this, you wouldn't understand the 80's you wern't even born.

If you want the arcade version of Pac-Land at home, get Nmco Museum Vol. 4 for Playstation.

Paul could you get hold of Asterix and It's a Knockout for the Spectrum? I used to love those games.

It's the UK West Midlands accent! (I have it too). Also probably the influence of cider.
Brilliant review.... "What's Pacman done wrong"? LOL XD

i prefer driving games on the speccy than 64, but i preferred 64 games over speccy depending on what they were, 720 is a classic example

Everyone's out to get you. What's Pac-man done wrong? LOL Maybe he gobbled a ghost?

This version sounds even more like the Pac-Man cartoon theme than the Arcade and Famicom version.

What a dreadful conversion. It does not even scroll. Its an insult to call this game Pac-Land
cedarpoint1 4 years ago 7
it was a pretty poor conversion i agree - i think both the cpc and the speccy versions had single screen screens
comparing that to the arcades and the namco original it was a bit poor i know what you're saying
