@svviftey You are right. Timing with some diesels has more to do with emissions than any other factor. Lets face it that black stuff is soot, ASH!! And in a few seconds to the dust it goes. Remember volcanoes are all natural but emit so much more emissions than any diesel ever has, or ever will... soot wise.

@Dieselpowerkid Because the soot that comes from engines is chock full of toxic chemicals that plants hate, and is also oily and sticky which is terrible for plant leaf 'stomata' : essentially breath holes (remember, it's coming from Petrochemicals) The charcoal and ash that come from wild fires is made up of the non combustible material of plants, and is therefore full of the minerals that went into making the plants in the first place. An excellent source for building more plants. All the best

It is not ash, because that is defined as the mineral content left after burning.

It is soot, but soot is not unburnt diesel (that would still be diesel) Soot is amorphous carbon produced by incomplete combustion (burning in insufficient oxygen to react completely with the fuel).

It is a pollutant, ie a harmful or damaging contaminant. It contributes greatly to many respiratory diseases. It causes smog. In short. It's bad.

But one truck up a hill won't hurt

@yaisum i guess you have something there, i just wish people would understand that diesel IS cleaner than gasoline. Not "oh its a loud, noisy, dirt machine." Diesel is about 2-4 years behind auto in technology, and farm and off road machinery is about 4 years behind diesel in technology. It is just because of regulations such as emissions. This is why Caterpillar doe not make an OTR (other the road) truck engine anymore. they couldnt meet emissions for the up coming years.

@yaisum Pretty much its gettin more fuel then air, so maybe the added bigger injectors, bigger fuel plate, or extra fuel pump for more power, but they didnt upgrade the air flow. This is why all new vehicles have o2' sennsors, the sensors tell the computer if its getting to much air, or to much fuel. To much air and you can lean out the engine and blow it, to much fuel and youll flood the engine out, or wash down the cylinder and rings and cause it to seize. this keeps the engine and EPA. happpy

actually that's ash...ash means that all the fuel is being spent and the ash is a result of the spent fuel, the ash doesn't go into the atmosphere, it falls back to the earth and is practically harmless :)
