people need to fucking shut up about the bailout given to the big 3. they are simple fucks who dont anything about whats going on around them. the AIG and bank bailouts were worse and more useless and the u.s gov. recovered 80% of what they put into to the automotive baleout. didnt recover jack shit from the banks. think before you say something stupid.
Cars are made with parts purchased on a global network. Buying any car benefits the global economy, no matter where the car company's corporate office is located. Many 'American' brands are actually imported into the country while many 'import' brands are built inside America.
@luminaeus You've been successfully brainwashed by the imports' marketing campaigns. Every time they utter that Camry is the most American car it makes me sick. If you do just 5 minutes of research you see that GM alone employs more Americans than all the imports combined. Cars made by the Detroit three are composed of about 70-80% of parts from American suppliers. Where do the imports stand? 30-40 maybe? Just because something is merely assembled here doesn't make it American one bit.
@luminaeus no your point is that it doesnt matter which company you buy from, it all benefits the economy. My point is - that there are vast differences of how much of your money stays at home depending on whether you buy from domestic or foreign makers. So yes, it DOES matter, a lot. i gave you rough numbers on parts origin. There's also the fact that foreign makers do most of their costly development at home, and simply assemble here.
Buy American cars so they can open more plants in Mexico and here in Canada......Why buy from a company that is farming your job's out to foreign country's???? Brand loyalty only limits your choice's when it comes to buying a car. It's your money!! you worked hard for it buy what you like. There is so much to choose from when you look at the car and not where it was made or who made it.
@buck65100 Keep in mind that Detroit three have 57 plants in the US while all the imports combined have 18. GM alone employs more Americans than all imports combined, and uses about 70% US parts even for cars built overseas. I agree with you, nobody should be blindly loyal. Free market is all about choices, but don't be brainwashed into thinking that it doesn't matter because Toyota has a few assembly plants here, and GM has a few in Mexico. Look where the money flows and who keeps the profit.
You have to do more research to really save America. The New Buick Regal is really German with new badges just like how the Dodge Stealth is really Japanese. Ford Fiesta or Focus is technically European because it was created by Ford of Europe. Dodge Charger is assemble in Canada. Only a few cars like the mustangs is all American. I love most imports but would buy a V6 mustang just to support my fellow Americans.
@maxiummadface Actual the Ford Fiesta is mostly from Mexico, the engine from Brazil, and i think the transmission is from Germany. But yes more research for this video would have made it better, I'm doing a speech on why we whould buy american cars, and I found out a lot of cars made from out companies aren't even made here. Just because the company is located here doesn't mean they are building them here. What we would do is buy cars mostly made her and not worry about the company.
@DragonStone7717 actually it's the other way around. You are focusing on assembly - the easiest, cheapest part of a very long process. its almost meaningless where the plant is located. The important part of the process is design and development. That's where the real good jobs are. Also, although a Fiesta is developed in Europe, the worldwide profit is brought back here, not Europe. So I would say the headquarters location is much more important than location of the assembly plant.
@whotolduso Yes but how many people actual get benefited from the headquarters getting the money, how many jobs does the headquarters actual give America? What America needs is jobs, not just money, and the factory give plenty more jobs than the headquarters. Personally I’d rather buy a Toyota car with its exterior, interior, and the engine is built here then a ford car which is built in Mexico, Canada, and China.
@DragonStone7717 Main technical centers are where the bulk of the work is done to develop the plans for a car - therefore, thats where most well paid high tech jobs are located. Again, you say built. You are overlooking design and engineering - by far the biggest effort - which is largely done in Japan, and give them credit for sending them here to be assembled by Japanese made robots and a few low paid workers, and chastising Ford for having a mexican plant. BTW nobody imports Chinese...
@DragonStone7717 Furthermore you are cherry picking cars to back up your point. Sure the Camry is ASSEMBLED here and that part is good. But the big three operate about 55 American plants while all foreign makers COMBINED have 18. And of course the bottom line is the profits go to HQ which are then taxed, and reinvested into development and further survival of the company. Of course you should be free to choose foreign, but don't let them fool you into thinking that it helps our economy.
@whotolduso LOL sorry dude, just saying that I was told by a car sales guy who I interviewed for my speech. My family has always been a Ford family, and we probably won't stop. I just wish they would make a car built completely here and not have little odds and ends from everwhere else. Plz don't bite my head off, I'm just expressing my concern for American jobs.
@whotolduso And yes I said built again. When I say that I'm including the design process and whatever else. A true American car in other words, which doesn't seem exist anymore apparently.
@whotolduso hahaha completely American car? The Mustang i think... no Im not mad, its just that u said you would rather buy a Camry assembled here than a Ford assembled in Mexico. You should have a choice to buy a Camry, but because you like it, don't be under the illusion that it helps our economy more than buying domestic. I mean that's just completely backwards.
@whotolduso 80% of parts of american cars are built domesticly while only 40% for foregin. and the profit(thats the important part) all goes to japan. i fucking hate japan. i'd rather have an american car built in america to be honest. i think theres more than most probably think.
i will only buy american. i hate foriegn cars.. but this video is really stupid ... "the buick lacross is a very nice car from gmc" - why dont you tell us that it looks good in red, or when you hit the gas it moves ! your gonna make people not want to buy a american car
ok let's see......i'm proud to be a redneck ignorant-arrogant-fucktard, i just need my wife-beater shirt my beer and my fucked up bailout truck! hey..but what do you spect?.. we elected the dumbest president ever( BUSH) ...and were about to put Palin in command!
@CrashJSTest lol every 10k? sure man, tell yourself what you want. and they are available for a year and they are cheap to renew. Plus they provide many more features than just towing/roadside assistance.. automatic crash response and stolen vehicle tracking are among many and it works even if your cell phone doesn't. and if you are counting on AAA then you can't say OnStar is not for you. You just don't want to admit that GM came up with the great idea before Toyota.
@CrashJSTest Sorry that was miswording on my behalf. Chevrolet has more consumer's best choice awards than Toyota. What do you say to that? And 140,000 miles is something it's just not as much as 220k (yet) which it will do. Don't just make thin arguments. 140,000 miles is good American or not. I have a friend who drives an Impala with with about 210k and another who drives a Buick Century with about 180k.
@CrashJSTest BMW and Mercedes are luxury vehicles. I said their cheapest vehicles. GM was the first to provide these features for cheap. The Cavalier had these features a few years before the Corolla did. It's not for you? You don't want to know that there's someone ready 24/7 to come help you within hours? I guess people will say anything to make imports look good. If Toyota offered it first you would have been very proud of it.
@CrashJSTest I can also rely on my American Chevys and Chryslers (never owned a Ford). I drove across the continent in a 10 year old Intrepid with about 140k and didn't have any problems. We are not talking about personal experiences, we are talking about statistically representative numbers. There are as many reports out there that would tell you Toyota is bad or that GM or Ford is better as there are the opposite. GM has more consumer's best choice than any other manufacturer.
@TheAmericanAutos Mechanics NEVER have any problems with their cars...because they keep enough spare parts in the thing to get it up & running again after it breaks down!!!!!
@CrashJSTest I know that the star safety system is nothing like onstar, but they copied the name nonetheless. GM has more standard air bags than Toyota in most of their vehicles and they were the first to have traction control, stability control and ABS standard on the cheapest vehicles. do your research. and you can't say you don't need onstar. Don't you have a spare tire? don't you have insurance? does that mean your car is bad or you're a bad driver? no. onstar is great.
@CrashJSTest You said 12 million and then 10 million recalls by ford. The largest recall was about 7 million so you made that up. and more than 50 people died by Toyota. if 50 people actually died because of Ford(which I don't think happened but I'll assume you're right) then Toyota is as bad NOW as Ford WAS over 10 years ago. Please, think logically. And your opinion is false so there you go. Why didn't they charge them 50 million or more? Do you know how much people filed for?
@CrashJSTest Firstly, Toyota had many massive recalls (2 or 3 were over a million plus the 5 million one) in one year. In addition, they had many other regular recalls like other automakers. The massive recalls does not mean "imports suck". The massive recalls means that people should stop with their reliability crap. They're just like any other automaker, if not worse.
@CrashJSTest If your answer is yes then Toyota's are reliable from your point of view but unreliable from any other person's point of view who cares about his life and his family. Reliable means you can rely on it.
@CrashJSTest man, you really aren't thinking, are you? One question answers the whole reliability crap and all the numbers you posted with your previous comment. If your car would last beyond 200k (engine and suspension parts) but it occasionally accelerates uncontrollably, would you RELY on it? Would you continue to drive it every day or would you take it to the dealership to get it fixed (recall or not)?
@CrashJSTest "America would charge them for nothing"? What are you basing that on? Don't just make claims man to make your argument sound better. What were the complaints in 93 about the Crown Vic? and how many? Every manufacturer will postpone recalls as much as they want. if a few people said their cruise control isn't working they may try to fix it locally (with dealer notices) without issuing a recall.
@CrashJSTest In addition, GM, Ford and Chrysler have been very good lately with recalls, when compared to Honda and Toyota. Honda also had major air bags and braking problems (close to 2-3 million I think in total with the largest being about a million) but they were overshadowed by Toyota's massive recalls. Most of GM's, Ford's and Chrysler's recent recalls have been minor-to-moderate issues and they haven't been in the same scale. So, as of recently, GM, Ford and Chrysler are more reliable.
@CrashJSTest Plus all the vehicles that are recalled will have parts replaced which means that, by your definition, they won't go past 200k on all original parts. Recalls do mean unreliable by your definition
@CrashJSTest American cars can soar past 200k on all original parts. I'm going to exclude trucks because american trucks can outlast pretty much any passenger vehicle and if you argue with that, then you're very uneducated. There are many american models that you virtually can't kill. GM's 3800 V6 will last you beyond 200k.
@CrashJSTest Ford had 12 million in a single recall? When? And the reports showed that they know it was a big issue. They charged them a $32.4 million fine. They wouldn't charge them that for nothing. What's the Ford problem that they knew about for 10 years? I'm unaware of any but there may be one in the past.
@CrashJSTest High sales for American companies = more cars produced = more employees to assemble. Paychecks? you are counting Paychecks? The money spent in R&D is FAR greater than paychecks.. that's what actually helps. Toyota's profits go to Japan and is mostly spent there.
@CrashJSTest GM is a very close second behind Toyota with respect to how many cars it sells and it is going to be back at the top this year, most likely.
@CrashJSTest 19.5 and 24.5 million recalls? where did you get that from? are you totalling ALL of their recalls? I'm talking about Toyotas recalls in ONE year. GM and Ford are not ANYWHERE near these numbers. Toyota has recalls, just like any other manufacturer, every year. And Toyota found out about the problem in 2008 but refused to fix it. They are "willing" to fix it because they had to. Recalls do mean they are unreliable. What does reliable mean to you? Can you rely on a defective product?
@CrashJSTest No it only looks at the amount of American parts. Check the description. And if you buy from the big three it's the same equation. Buy American = more sales = more production = more employees = more American. In addition, the money stays in here and doesn't go to Japan. It will get spent here on R&D instead of in Japan. Much more beneficial to the economy.
@CrashJSTest If the windshield was the problem they, would have figured it out. Shutting down a production line in any industry causes tremendous financial losses. It had to be a little more critical than that; suspension and drive train parts are much more probable.
@CrashJSTest reliable? did you hear about the recalls? about 13 million cars or more. that's A LOT of cars. that's about as many cars as they sell in two years globally. so the amount of defective cars they had to recalled is almost as many cars as they sold around the world in two years.
@CrashJSTest And even for the Camry and Accord, the story doesn't end there (not being the top as that report on cars-dot-com claims. Honda announced a few months ago that the number of Accords produced in North America is about to be the same as that imported. So until very recently more than half was still being imported. And the same goes for Camry; a good amount is still being imported. The specific cars you bought may be assembled in the US but many others aren't.
@CrashJSTest Did you look at the list on cars-dot-com? that one is altered and has unfortunately mislead a lot. The author said the source is Automaker data.. where did they get that from? If you check NHTSA's website you'll find the official list which is used for labeling cars. The lists for available models (2010/2011 model years lists) are dominated by the big three. 70% of the car models with 70% domestic content and more are made by the big three.
@CrashJSTest Also, the report showed the Camry and Avalon are only 3-5% higher in content of parts from the US when compared to the Malibu and Impala.. on the other hand, Toyota assembles only a percentage of them in the US but a good portion is still imported from Japan, which completely negates the advantage and puts it back at a disadvantage. And Chrysler is the absolute highest in sedans so buy Chrysler if you really want to decide only based on content.
@CrashJSTest The official list compiled of % parts content of cars was compiled and posted by NHTSA and you can look it up online. More than 70% of the available car models (2010/2011) with 70% domestic content and above are from the Detroit three (GM, Ford and Chrysler) and the cars with the highest content are still American. Don't believe what Toyota and uneducated people try to convince you.
@CrashJSTest The total number of Toyota workers in North America is about 25,000. GM had to lay off about that many workers because of the financial issues. The workforce reflects the production capacity so it's very evident that Toyota's production in the US is far less than GM alone. a lot of people are misled to think that buying Toyotas and Hondas is just as beneficial to the economy as the big three because of the few plants they have in North America, but that's not true.
can some one tell me when ..or how did toyota become american???..dont be fooled just cuzz they are assembled here,,i dont care how much you try to justify a toyota being american just because it is assembled here ..they are not american ..so if toyota is american,..then why does the profit go back to japan???...toyota is from japan ,did we forget about pearl harbor?...did we bomb ourselfs in 1941???..toyota is a dirty scum bag of a company with slave labor,,scew toyota
@CrashJSTest you got it screwed gm and ford are made here and BORN HERE toyata is ASSEMBLED HERE big difference your still having Japanese put your car together cause all that money you spend on a new toyota goes back to japan like 2% stays in America unlike gm and ford almost all of the money comes back to America cause its an American company TOYOTA IS STILL A JAPANESE CAR COMPANY AND DONT HATE ON CARS THAT BUILT YOUR NATION
@CrashJSTest im sorry i wasnt aware that the camry was in the same class as the F150, and if you wanna go there, GM and Ford each outsell Toyota in the U.S.... nice try though bud.
@CrashJSTest Oh and you know after the Japanese earthquake how come all of the Japanese auto companies are closing their US plants due to part shortages and not GM, Ford, or Chrysler?? And did you know that Toyota is the car company in the US that imports the majority of their parts.
@Hummers222 Toyota imports 48% of their cars into the U.S. and is on average one of the lowest users of domestic parts at 34%, except for the Camry and Tundra. Also our Treasury collects half the tax revenue on a foreign brand. Most of those foreign transplants are here due to U.S. import quota and tariffs. It was a way to dump more of their cars in the U.S. People need to know that most of those Toyota plants got tax payer subsidies and free land. Plus, the profits go back to Japan.
Wasn't it chevy that would have gone down if they weren't practically taken over by Fiat group? It's kinda how global economics work, you stick to what you're good at, trucks, leave the rest to other countries.
@CrashJSTest (2) And would you please be so kind to name me one of the numerous Ford plants you claim are closing? Ford just had record profits last quarter since 2007, i doubt theyd be laying off workers at this time, i looked and found no information on them doing so. You speak of this reliability but wasnt it just last year Toyota recalled 2 million vehicles for throttle pedal issues? not to mention they blamed it on faulty floor mats!
@CrashJSTest (1)No i do not think the corporations have any obligations on where production takes place. Are you just spinning a globe and pointing at places to mention where the F Series is built? Just the thought of a full size F150 on the little streets of England is comical..so how about doing a simple Wikipedia search on the F Series trucks and youl find that the current 2008-present F Series are assembled in 2 different US States and also in Valencia, Venezuela and Cuautitlan, Mexico
Heres a list of US Manufactured vehicles BUILT IN THE STATES for your toyota buying ass; Chrysler Seabring, Dodge Avenger, Caliber, Dakota, Nitro, Ram 1500, Jeep Compass, Cherokee, Liberty, Patriot and Wrangler, Ford Econoline, Escape, Expedition, F150, F250, Focus, Mustang, Ranger, Taurus, Lincoln MKS, Buick Lacrosse, Lucerne, Cadillac Escalade, CTS, DTS, STS, Chevrolet Corvette, Cruze, Malibu, Colorado, Express, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe, Traverse, GMC Acadia, Canyon, Sierra, Savanna, Yukon
gm is a loser company they have so much infreiority complex they need to constantly put toyota and honda down in their ads...no self-respecting company will do that!
My next car will NOT be American. I have a 2004 dodge neon with 80 K miles and its falling apart on me. The worse quality cars ever made. I can't even sell the peace of shit for $2000, so im pretty much fucked up. THANKS A LOT DODGE!!
I will only buy American cars when the big 3 start building reliable cars.
@cdog9991 actually American cars are getting to be better than Japanese and European cars. Take a look at the Ford Fusion, Focus, Chevy Cruze. They are all better cars than any foreign brand.
@Hummers222 Only time will decide how reliable those cars will be. Reliability is a HUGE factor especially in this economy and so far the Japanese automakers seem to be on top by a considerable margin. And the big 3 need to keep it consistent and not just build a couple good cars and the rest like shit...otherwise nothing will get accomplished.
@Hummers222 Uh theyre getting better because they are having other countries' engineering putting in it. The Cruze began in Korea and not GM is claiming its "all-american". The fusion and focus are benefiting by theyre european and mazda counterparts.
@cdog9991 well i dont blame you , but at the same time..we do make very good cars..if you think toyota or honda is all that and a bag of chips..you might want to look on google a bit and see all the forums out there with ppl who felt the same as you and bought a jap car only to be left down because it turn out to be a big piece of shit and toyota wont do anything about the problems ...so toyota is not as good as made out to be..screw toyota and honda is all i have to say
@390merc65 Im not saying that japanese cars are perfect and american cars are shit. I know that there have been hondas and toyotas with MAJOR problems, but overall their reliability is much, MUCH better.
I was hoping my neon would last me well after college, but im only in my first year and im expecting it to die any day now and I don't have the money for a new car...like i said, only time will decide if and how reliable american cars will be. Untill then im sticking to whats best.
@yfz450mane Yeah? Have you seen how complex and how crammed the engine bay is? It's gotten so bad you HAVE to take it to a mechanic, WHO RAPES YOU. Good generous American spirit. At least Kia and Hyundai warranties their cars for 10 years, 100,000 miles. They wouldn't put a warranty that good on their cars if they were so shitty.
@betatalk357 Excuse me, but that Hyundai and Kia 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty you speak of is a "drivetrain warranty" which deals with transmission only,(did you know Chrysler offers a Lifetime Unlimited miles and Unlimited years warranty on their Drivetrains?) But the actual "Basic Limited Warranty" i believe you meant to speak about for Hyundai and Kia is 5 years and 60,000 miles, which is still better than the Big 3 and EVERY other car company in the world. Ya that means Honda and Toyota too
@yfz450mane The Big 3 could barely warranty their cars for 5 years, 100,000 miles (which is 20,000 miles a year, which no one drives that much yearly). It's a bullshit warranty, made to look like its for a quality product. The car will barely last 6 years, much less 100,000 miles. The Koreans warrantied their products for the ideal 10,000 miles a year driving, which everybody drives that much, and at the same price as a domestic car.
@betatalk357 And Another thing..Hyundai makes about 8 different cars, and Kia makes about 7..GM makes about 33, and Ford and Chrysler both make about 28 each, this includes big trucks like the F150s and Silverado and Rams and super duty and heavy duty ect.... if Hyundai and Kia made big work trucks and such a wide variety of different vehicles like the big 3 does, i can certainly tell you they would not be able to warranty all their vehicles like they currently do now, do you agree with that?
@yfz450mane "Hyundai makes 8 cars; Kia 7; GM 33; Ford and Chrysler make 28 each." That's my point exactly. The Koreans are more concerned with QUALITY AND PRACTICALITY, NOT QUANTITY AND PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE. Operating as a small company allows thrm to make a tidy profit in good times, but keep going without laying people off in bad times. You heard of the Big 3 laying off left, right, and center; what about the Koreans?
@betatalk357 (part1)"You heard of the Big 3 laying off left, right, and center; what about the Koreans?" Did you know Hyundai layed off 10% of its US workforce in 2009? but come on, youre on the wrong side of the fence here, you and i both as Americans should both be urging each other and others to buy more american products, Hyundai pays its workers $14 an hour starting out, thats $28,000 a year with no union support, and GM workers make about $54,000 per year with union support.
@yfz450mane "Hyundai pays its workers $14 an hour starting out, thats $28,000 a year with no union support, and GM workers make about $54,000 per year with union support." GM workers make that much due to people keep spending money on vehicles, repairs, parts, etc.
@yfz450mane Hey pal, I make 15/hr, same as a Hyundai worker, but it took me several years of hard work to get there. And for the pay I get, I still do work hard, with no drastic increases, AND I GOT UNION SUPPORT. And I'm STILL worried I might lose my job. What good is it if people can't afford much to spend on a car and needs a reliable car, especially in bad economic times? They'll buy the cheaper, more reliable one, to keep themselves going until the economy improves.
@yfz450mane This means a little more job security at Hyundai and the 54 grand a year GM worker is a dinosaur.
But overall, corporations are not set up to pay good when times are good and everybody agree to a reasonable wage during tough times to keep jobs going.
@yfz450mane "Did you know Hyundai layed off 10% of its US workforce in 2009?"
As I said, small car companies make small profit; they can't compete giants like the Big 3. But when things go belly up, they don't have the resources to keep jobs going in bad times. They would thrive if they had a large customer base of people looking for cheap, reliable, cars and workers who want good job security and an average living wage.
@yfz450mane "you act as if these japanese and korean companies build these cars here out of compassion for the american workers"
No, they build these cars out of compassion for the American motorist. People are tired of their flaky Fords, GMs that fall apart at every turn, and underperforming Chryslers. Besides, what kind of compassion does the American car companies, much less its workers, make money by building utter shitboxes? Do you LIKE driving shitboxes?
@yfz450mane I'm guessing you never saw the parallels between the American car industry and the movie "Tommy Boy." Chris Farley KNEW that Callahan Auto had to sell good quality parts at competitive prices or else their town went under. Did you go to the ghost city called Detroit, lately?
@yfz450mane Foreign car companies did just like Chris Farley did: 'If you want me to build you a box, take a shit in it, and sell it to you, I will. But if you want a better product, you might wanna think about buying from me."
Also, watch "Who Killed the British Motor Industry?" by Jeremy Clarkson. The Big 3 followed them step by step into their own grave. Substitute Rover and MG for Chrysler and GM, and it's carbon copy.
@yfz450mane And then you can sit there an wonder why the Big 3 isn't able to afford your pension, oldhead. If a younghead can figure out the past generation is full of shit with shitty products designed to keep people buying and consuming, you're more over the hill than you think.
@yfz450mane Oh, and by the way, Caddy SLS- made in Shanghai; Ford Fiesta/ Taurus/ Transit- Great Britain. Taurus is actually a Mondeo in the UK; Chevy Aveo made in old Daewoo plants; Fusion made in Central America. Many Pontiac/ Chevy parts and cars designed in Australia under Holden/ Vauxhall. Pontiac GTO is really a Vauxhall/ Holden Monaro. Cadillac CTS-V was engineered by speed freaks in Germany;
@yfz450mane lots of Dodge/ Eagle/ Chrysler vehicles use Mitsubishi engines/ several Fords use Mazda engines/ some Chevies use Toyota engines; Chevy Camaro is designed by Koreans, engineered in Australia, built in Canada, and sold to stupid, uneducated Americans like yourself. Yeah, "buy American" alright.
@yfz450mane "hey look, they built it here and gave a fellow american a means of putting food on the table" Yeah, at least foreign car companies are hiring Americans. Go ask Roger Smith and the other GM CEOs how many people he laid off and how many jobs he sent to Canada and Mexico since 1989. Or ask Lee Iaccoca how many Ford plants are still in the USA and how many Ford plants there are worlwide.
@yfz450mane Or go ask Chrysler if they're still an American company or owned by Fiat, who are now trying to sell Fiats here. I understand your support for American labor, but why are you so stringent on supporting a system that benefits off the suffering of others, a system that is corrupt and evil and compassionateless and wrong?
@yfz450mane You don't need and can't afford 8 million vehicles in your life; you need and can afford only a few good ones. ESPECIALLY if all you're getting paid 30 grand a year which people laughingly call a "living wage."
And to answer your question, yes they wouldn't be able to warranty their vehicles that good. But, that's because they made too many of them and an overbearing wide variety of them. And designed them to last only a few years. Do you WANT to keep spending cash on a car?
@betatalk35(part2) "30 grand a year which people laughingly call a "living wage."" you act as if these japanese and korean companies build these cars here out of compassion for the american workers when really they could give a damn, and thats obvious because they wont let the workers organize or join the UAW. but they build them here so people like you can say "hey look, they built it here and gave a fellow american a means of putting food on the table" when really they pay less than$30,000yr
@yfz450mane After 10 years, it's most likely to be sold as a cheap used car, the people who drove it would've had a good experience with it, and out of loyalty they've been shown, will buy another one. And they'll have a loyal customer base. That's simple, basic economics. If the Big 3 hasn't learned that lesson, they're far over the hill than what people perceive them to be.
Anyways, I'm not gonna kiss Chrysler and GM's ass and buy their shit products anymore. Like I said, when they start building good cars i will buy from them but until then, hell no. And I don't really care if its hurting the economy because THEY ARE HURTING OUR WALLETS! They need to realize that they don't have a monopoly on the car industry and that if they don't get their act together more and more people will turn to foreign cars.
How old is the person who made this video? Warranties is spelt wrong neither are they really proof of good car. Quality is a bit of a random comment. Half the vehicles in the video aren't fully American including the Fiesta and Mondeo which have nearly nothing but a badge to do with the states. America is good at loads of things but not cars. Sorry
people need to fucking shut up about the bailout given to the big 3. they are simple fucks who dont anything about whats going on around them. the AIG and bank bailouts were worse and more useless and the u.s gov. recovered 80% of what they put into to the automotive baleout. didnt recover jack shit from the banks. think before you say something stupid.

Congratulations, you restated my point.

There's also the fact that foreign makers do most of their costly development at home, and simply assemble here.
whotolduso 2 months ago
Buy American cars so they can open more plants in Mexico and here in Canada......Why buy from a company that is farming your job's out to foreign country's???? Brand loyalty only limits your choice's when it comes to buying a car. It's your money!! you worked hard for it buy what you like. There is so much to choose from when you look at the car and not where it was made or who made it.
buck65100 2 months ago
@buck65100 Keep in mind that Detroit three have 57 plants in the US while all the imports combined have 18. GM alone employs more Americans than all imports combined, and uses about 70% US parts even for cars built overseas. I agree with you, nobody should be blindly loyal. Free market is all about choices, but don't be brainwashed into thinking that it doesn't matter because Toyota has a few assembly plants here, and GM has a few in Mexico. Look where the money flows and who keeps the profit.

DragonStone7717 4 months ago
You have to do more research to really save America. The New Buick Regal is really German with new badges just like how the Dodge Stealth is really Japanese. Ford Fiesta or Focus is technically European because it was created by Ford of Europe. Dodge Charger is assemble in Canada. Only a few cars like the mustangs is all American. I love most imports but would buy a V6 mustang just to support my fellow Americans.
maxiummadface 5 months ago
@maxiummadface Actual the Ford Fiesta is mostly from Mexico, the engine from Brazil, and i think the transmission is from Germany. But yes more research for this video would have made it better, I'm doing a speech on why we whould buy american cars, and I found out a lot of cars made from out companies aren't even made here. Just because the company is located here doesn't mean they are building them here. What we would do is buy cars mostly made her and not worry about the company.
DragonStone7717 4 months ago
@DragonStone7717 actually it's the other way around. You are focusing on assembly - the easiest, cheapest part of a very long process. its almost meaningless where the plant is located. The important part of the process is design and development. That's where the real good jobs are. Also, although a Fiesta is developed in Europe, the worldwide profit is brought back here, not Europe. So I would say the headquarters location is much more important than location of the assembly plant.
whotolduso 2 months ago
@whotolduso Yes but how many people actual get benefited from the headquarters getting the money, how many jobs does the headquarters actual give America? What America needs is jobs, not just money, and the factory give plenty more jobs than the headquarters. Personally I’d rather buy a Toyota car with its exterior, interior, and the engine is built here then a ford car which is built in Mexico, Canada, and China.
DragonStone7717 2 months ago
@DragonStone7717 Main technical centers are where the bulk of the work is done to develop the plans for a car - therefore, thats where most well paid high tech jobs are located. Again, you say built. You are overlooking design and engineering - by far the biggest effort - which is largely done in Japan, and give them credit for sending them here to be assembled by Japanese made robots and a few low paid workers, and chastising Ford for having a mexican plant. BTW nobody imports Chinese...
whotolduso 2 months ago
@DragonStone7717 Furthermore you are cherry picking cars to back up your point. Sure the Camry is ASSEMBLED here and that part is good. But the big three operate about 55 American plants while all foreign makers COMBINED have 18. And of course the bottom line is the profits go to HQ which are then taxed, and reinvested into development and further survival of the company. Of course you should be free to choose foreign, but don't let them fool you into thinking that it helps our economy.
whotolduso 2 months ago
@whotolduso LOL sorry dude, just saying that I was told by a car sales guy who I interviewed for my speech. My family has always been a Ford family, and we probably won't stop. I just wish they would make a car built completely here and not have little odds and ends from everwhere else. Plz don't bite my head off, I'm just expressing my concern for American jobs.
DragonStone7717 1 month ago
@whotolduso And yes I said built again. When I say that I'm including the design process and whatever else. A true American car in other words, which doesn't seem exist anymore apparently.
DragonStone7717 1 month ago
@whotolduso hahaha completely American car? The Mustang i think... no Im not mad, its just that u said you would rather buy a Camry assembled here than a Ford assembled in Mexico. You should have a choice to buy a Camry, but because you like it, don't be under the illusion that it helps our economy more than buying domestic. I mean that's just completely backwards.
whotolduso 1 month ago
@whotolduso 80% of parts of american cars are built domesticly while only 40% for foregin. and the profit(thats the important part) all goes to japan. i fucking hate japan. i'd rather have an american car built in america to be honest. i think theres more than most probably think.

@CrashJSTest A link to what?
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest lol every 10k? sure man, tell yourself what you want. and they are available for a year and they are cheap to renew. Plus they provide many more features than just towing/roadside assistance.. automatic crash response and stolen vehicle tracking are among many and it works even if your cell phone doesn't. and if you are counting on AAA then you can't say OnStar is not for you. You just don't want to admit that GM came up with the great idea before Toyota.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest Because it's safety related. You don't seem to know how marketing works.. some words sound good and attracts people's attention.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest Sorry that was miswording on my behalf. Chevrolet has more consumer's best choice awards than Toyota. What do you say to that? And 140,000 miles is something it's just not as much as 220k (yet) which it will do. Don't just make thin arguments. 140,000 miles is good American or not. I have a friend who drives an Impala with with about 210k and another who drives a Buick Century with about 180k.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest BMW and Mercedes are luxury vehicles. I said their cheapest vehicles. GM was the first to provide these features for cheap. The Cavalier had these features a few years before the Corolla did. It's not for you? You don't want to know that there's someone ready 24/7 to come help you within hours? I guess people will say anything to make imports look good. If Toyota offered it first you would have been very proud of it.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest Fine, I'm sorry. They didn't copy it. They have a similar name that was inspired by GM's very well chosen name. Happy?
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest You say what you want. No Automaker would recall a vehicle more than they have to. It looks bad and it costs money.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest I can also rely on my American Chevys and Chryslers (never owned a Ford). I drove across the continent in a 10 year old Intrepid with about 140k and didn't have any problems. We are not talking about personal experiences, we are talking about statistically representative numbers. There are as many reports out there that would tell you Toyota is bad or that GM or Ford is better as there are the opposite. GM has more consumer's best choice than any other manufacturer.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@TheAmericanAutos Mechanics NEVER have any problems with their cars...because they keep enough spare parts in the thing to get it up & running again after it breaks down!!!!!
landyachtfan79 6 months ago
@landyachtfan79 I'm not sure what your point is..
TheAmericanAutos 6 months ago
@CrashJSTest I know that the star safety system is nothing like onstar, but they copied the name nonetheless. GM has more standard air bags than Toyota in most of their vehicles and they were the first to have traction control, stability control and ABS standard on the cheapest vehicles. do your research. and you can't say you don't need onstar. Don't you have a spare tire? don't you have insurance? does that mean your car is bad or you're a bad driver? no. onstar is great.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest Well, in my opinion all the Toyota and Honda reliability crap is nonsense. Opinions don't matter. Facts do.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest Where is it?? where are you coming up with these numbers man? 12 million in one recall? when?
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest You said 12 million and then 10 million recalls by ford. The largest recall was about 7 million so you made that up. and more than 50 people died by Toyota. if 50 people actually died because of Ford(which I don't think happened but I'll assume you're right) then Toyota is as bad NOW as Ford WAS over 10 years ago. Please, think logically. And your opinion is false so there you go. Why didn't they charge them 50 million or more? Do you know how much people filed for?
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest My Chevy has OnStar (which Toyota copied by the Star Safety System.. very original) so I don't need you.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest Firstly, Toyota had many massive recalls (2 or 3 were over a million plus the 5 million one) in one year. In addition, they had many other regular recalls like other automakers. The massive recalls does not mean "imports suck". The massive recalls means that people should stop with their reliability crap. They're just like any other automaker, if not worse.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest If your answer is yes then Toyota's are reliable from your point of view but unreliable from any other person's point of view who cares about his life and his family. Reliable means you can rely on it.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest man, you really aren't thinking, are you? One question answers the whole reliability crap and all the numbers you posted with your previous comment. If your car would last beyond 200k (engine and suspension parts) but it occasionally accelerates uncontrollably, would you RELY on it? Would you continue to drive it every day or would you take it to the dealership to get it fixed (recall or not)?
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest "America would charge them for nothing"? What are you basing that on? Don't just make claims man to make your argument sound better. What were the complaints in 93 about the Crown Vic? and how many? Every manufacturer will postpone recalls as much as they want. if a few people said their cruise control isn't working they may try to fix it locally (with dealer notices) without issuing a recall.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest In addition, GM, Ford and Chrysler have been very good lately with recalls, when compared to Honda and Toyota. Honda also had major air bags and braking problems (close to 2-3 million I think in total with the largest being about a million) but they were overshadowed by Toyota's massive recalls. Most of GM's, Ford's and Chrysler's recent recalls have been minor-to-moderate issues and they haven't been in the same scale. So, as of recently, GM, Ford and Chrysler are more reliable.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest Plus all the vehicles that are recalled will have parts replaced which means that, by your definition, they won't go past 200k on all original parts. Recalls do mean unreliable by your definition
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest American cars can soar past 200k on all original parts. I'm going to exclude trucks because american trucks can outlast pretty much any passenger vehicle and if you argue with that, then you're very uneducated. There are many american models that you virtually can't kill. GM's 3800 V6 will last you beyond 200k.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest Ford had 12 million in a single recall? When? And the reports showed that they know it was a big issue. They charged them a $32.4 million fine. They wouldn't charge them that for nothing. What's the Ford problem that they knew about for 10 years? I'm unaware of any but there may be one in the past.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest High sales for American companies = more cars produced = more employees to assemble. Paychecks? you are counting Paychecks? The money spent in R&D is FAR greater than paychecks.. that's what actually helps. Toyota's profits go to Japan and is mostly spent there.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest The sport trac ended with the last Ford explorer in 2010 model, but it extended into 2011.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest GM is a very close second behind Toyota with respect to how many cars it sells and it is going to be back at the top this year, most likely.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest 19.5 and 24.5 million recalls? where did you get that from? are you totalling ALL of their recalls? I'm talking about Toyotas recalls in ONE year. GM and Ford are not ANYWHERE near these numbers. Toyota has recalls, just like any other manufacturer, every year. And Toyota found out about the problem in 2008 but refused to fix it. They are "willing" to fix it because they had to. Recalls do mean they are unreliable. What does reliable mean to you? Can you rely on a defective product?
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest No it only looks at the amount of American parts. Check the description. And if you buy from the big three it's the same equation. Buy American = more sales = more production = more employees = more American. In addition, the money stays in here and doesn't go to Japan. It will get spent here on R&D instead of in Japan. Much more beneficial to the economy.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest If the windshield was the problem they, would have figured it out. Shutting down a production line in any industry causes tremendous financial losses. It had to be a little more critical than that; suspension and drive train parts are much more probable.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest That's not true. The Ford Sport Trac is 90% American and the Dodge Dakota is 84%.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest reliable? did you hear about the recalls? about 13 million cars or more. that's A LOT of cars. that's about as many cars as they sell in two years globally. so the amount of defective cars they had to recalled is almost as many cars as they sold around the world in two years.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest And even for the Camry and Accord, the story doesn't end there (not being the top as that report on cars-dot-com claims. Honda announced a few months ago that the number of Accords produced in North America is about to be the same as that imported. So until very recently more than half was still being imported. And the same goes for Camry; a good amount is still being imported. The specific cars you bought may be assembled in the US but many others aren't.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest Did you look at the list on cars-dot-com? that one is altered and has unfortunately mislead a lot. The author said the source is Automaker data.. where did they get that from? If you check NHTSA's website you'll find the official list which is used for labeling cars. The lists for available models (2010/2011 model years lists) are dominated by the big three. 70% of the car models with 70% domestic content and more are made by the big three.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest Also, the report showed the Camry and Avalon are only 3-5% higher in content of parts from the US when compared to the Malibu and Impala.. on the other hand, Toyota assembles only a percentage of them in the US but a good portion is still imported from Japan, which completely negates the advantage and puts it back at a disadvantage. And Chrysler is the absolute highest in sedans so buy Chrysler if you really want to decide only based on content.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest The official list compiled of % parts content of cars was compiled and posted by NHTSA and you can look it up online. More than 70% of the available car models (2010/2011) with 70% domestic content and above are from the Detroit three (GM, Ford and Chrysler) and the cars with the highest content are still American. Don't believe what Toyota and uneducated people try to convince you.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago
@CrashJSTest The total number of Toyota workers in North America is about 25,000. GM had to lay off about that many workers because of the financial issues. The workforce reflects the production capacity so it's very evident that Toyota's production in the US is far less than GM alone. a lot of people are misled to think that buying Toyotas and Hondas is just as beneficial to the economy as the big three because of the few plants they have in North America, but that's not true.
TheAmericanAutos 7 months ago

Hummers222 11 months ago
@Hummers222 Toyota imports 48% of their cars into the U.S. and is on average one of the lowest users of domestic parts at 34%, except for the Camry and Tundra. Also our Treasury collects half the tax revenue on a foreign brand. Most of those foreign transplants are here due to U.S. import quota and tariffs. It was a way to dump more of their cars in the U.S. People need to know that most of those Toyota plants got tax payer subsidies and free land. Plus, the profits go back to Japan.

@cdog9991 actually American cars are getting to be better than Japanese and European cars. Take a look at the Ford Fusion, Focus, Chevy Cruze. They are all better cars than any foreign brand.
Hummers222 1 year ago
@Hummers222 Only time will decide how reliable those cars will be. Reliability is a HUGE factor especially in this economy and so far the Japanese automakers seem to be on top by a considerable margin. And the big 3 need to keep it consistent and not just build a couple good cars and the rest like shit...otherwise nothing will get accomplished.
cdog9991 1 year ago

@yfz450mane Yeah? Have you seen how complex and how crammed the engine bay is? It's gotten so bad you HAVE to take it to a mechanic, WHO RAPES YOU. Good generous American spirit. At least Kia and Hyundai warranties their cars for 10 years, 100,000 miles. They wouldn't put a warranty that good on their cars if they were so shitty.
betatalk357 1 year ago
@betatalk357 Excuse me, but that Hyundai and Kia 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty you speak of is a "drivetrain warranty" which deals with transmission only,(did you know Chrysler offers a Lifetime Unlimited miles and Unlimited years warranty on their Drivetrains?) But the actual "Basic Limited Warranty" i believe you meant to speak about for Hyundai and Kia is 5 years and 60,000 miles, which is still better than the Big 3 and EVERY other car company in the world. Ya that means Honda and Toyota too
yfz450mane 1 year ago
@yfz450mane The Big 3 could barely warranty their cars for 5 years, 100,000 miles (which is 20,000 miles a year, which no one drives that much yearly). It's a bullshit warranty, made to look like its for a quality product. The car will barely last 6 years, much less 100,000 miles. The Koreans warrantied their products for the ideal 10,000 miles a year driving, which everybody drives that much, and at the same price as a domestic car.

@betatalk357 And Another thing..Hyundai makes about 8 different cars, and Kia makes about 7..GM makes about 33, and Ford and Chrysler both make about 28 each, this includes big trucks like the F150s and Silverado and Rams and super duty and heavy duty ect.... if Hyundai and Kia made big work trucks and such a wide variety of different vehicles like the big 3 does, i can certainly tell you they would not be able to warranty all their vehicles like they currently do now, do you agree with that?
yfz450mane 1 year ago
@yfz450mane "Hyundai makes 8 cars; Kia 7; GM 33; Ford and Chrysler make 28 each." That's my point exactly. The Koreans are more concerned with QUALITY AND PRACTICALITY, NOT QUANTITY AND PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE. Operating as a small company allows thrm to make a tidy profit in good times, but keep going without laying people off in bad times. You heard of the Big 3 laying off left, right, and center; what about the Koreans?
betatalk357 1 year ago
@betatalk357 (part1)"You heard of the Big 3 laying off left, right, and center; what about the Koreans?" Did you know Hyundai layed off 10% of its US workforce in 2009? but come on, youre on the wrong side of the fence here, you and i both as Americans should both be urging each other and others to buy more american products, Hyundai pays its workers $14 an hour starting out, thats $28,000 a year with no union support, and GM workers make about $54,000 per year with union support.

@yfz450mane "Hyundai pays its workers $14 an hour starting out, thats $28,000 a year with no union support, and GM workers make about $54,000 per year with union support." GM workers make that much due to people keep spending money on vehicles, repairs, parts, etc.
betatalk357 1 year ago
@yfz450mane Hey pal, I make 15/hr, same as a Hyundai worker, but it took me several years of hard work to get there. And for the pay I get, I still do work hard, with no drastic increases, AND I GOT UNION SUPPORT. And I'm STILL worried I might lose my job. What good is it if people can't afford much to spend on a car and needs a reliable car, especially in bad economic times? They'll buy the cheaper, more reliable one, to keep themselves going until the economy improves.
betatalk357 1 year ago
@yfz450mane This means a little more job security at Hyundai and the 54 grand a year GM worker is a dinosaur.
But overall, corporations are not set up to pay good when times are good and everybody agree to a reasonable wage during tough times to keep jobs going.
betatalk357 1 year ago

Do you LIKE driving shitboxes?
betatalk357 1 year ago
@yfz450mane I'm guessing you never saw the parallels between the American car industry and the movie "Tommy Boy." Chris Farley KNEW that Callahan Auto had to sell good quality parts at competitive prices or else their town went under. Did you go to the ghost city called Detroit, lately?
betatalk357 1 year ago
@yfz450mane Foreign car companies did just like Chris Farley did: 'If you want me to build you a box, take a shit in it, and sell it to you, I will. But if you want a better product, you might wanna think about buying from me."
Also, watch "Who Killed the British Motor Industry?" by Jeremy Clarkson. The Big 3 followed them step by step into their own grave. Substitute Rover and MG for Chrysler and GM, and it's carbon copy.
betatalk357 1 year ago
@yfz450mane And then you can sit there an wonder why the Big 3 isn't able to afford your pension, oldhead. If a younghead can figure out the past generation is full of shit with shitty products designed to keep people buying and consuming, you're more over the hill than you think.
betatalk357 1 year ago
@yfz450mane Oh, and by the way, Caddy SLS- made in Shanghai; Ford Fiesta/ Taurus/ Transit- Great Britain. Taurus is actually a Mondeo in the UK; Chevy Aveo made in old Daewoo plants; Fusion made in Central America. Many Pontiac/ Chevy parts and cars designed in Australia under Holden/ Vauxhall. Pontiac GTO is really a Vauxhall/ Holden Monaro. Cadillac CTS-V was engineered by speed freaks in Germany;
betatalk357 1 year ago
@yfz450mane lots of Dodge/ Eagle/ Chrysler vehicles use Mitsubishi engines/ several Fords use Mazda engines/ some Chevies use Toyota engines; Chevy Camaro is designed by Koreans, engineered in Australia, built in Canada, and sold to stupid, uneducated Americans like yourself. Yeah, "buy American" alright.
betatalk357 1 year ago
@yfz450mane "hey look, they built it here and gave a fellow american a means of putting food on the table" Yeah, at least foreign car companies are hiring Americans. Go ask Roger Smith and the other GM CEOs how many people he laid off and how many jobs he sent to Canada and Mexico since 1989. Or ask Lee Iaccoca how many Ford plants are still in the USA and how many Ford plants there are worlwide.
betatalk357 1 year ago
@yfz450mane Or go ask Chrysler if they're still an American company or owned by Fiat, who are now trying to sell Fiats here. I understand your support for American labor, but why are you so stringent on supporting a system that benefits off the suffering of others, a system that is corrupt and evil and compassionateless and wrong?
betatalk357 1 year ago
@yfz450mane You don't need and can't afford 8 million vehicles in your life; you need and can afford only a few good ones. ESPECIALLY if all you're getting paid 30 grand a year which people laughingly call a "living wage."
And to answer your question, yes they wouldn't be able to warranty their vehicles that good. But, that's because they made too many of them and an overbearing wide variety of them. And designed them to last only a few years. Do you WANT to keep spending cash on a car?
betatalk357 1 year ago
@betatalk35(part2) "30 grand a year which people laughingly call a "living wage."" you act as if these japanese and korean companies build these cars here out of compassion for the american workers when really they could give a damn, and thats obvious because they wont let the workers organize or join the UAW. but they build them here so people like you can say "hey look, they built it here and gave a fellow american a means of putting food on the table" when really they pay less than$30,000yr
yfz450mane 1 year ago
@yfz450mane After 10 years, it's most likely to be sold as a cheap used car, the people who drove it would've had a good experience with it, and out of loyalty they've been shown, will buy another one. And they'll have a loyal customer base. That's simple, basic economics. If the Big 3 hasn't learned that lesson, they're far over the hill than what people perceive them to be.
betatalk357 1 year ago
@cdog9991 you are ANIT AMERICAN
jamhead214 1 year ago
@jamhead214 You mean ANTI?

What a ridiculous video. You have facts available, but you chose to ignore them.
Transam941 1 year ago
How old is the person who made this video? Warranties is spelt wrong neither are they really proof of good car. Quality is a bit of a random comment. Half the vehicles in the video aren't fully American including the Fiesta and Mondeo which have nearly nothing but a badge to do with the states. America is good at loads of things but not cars. Sorry
