Brilliant music. It's a real shame no-one is writing music like this now. But even if they did, they wouldn't have acheived the fame Mozart had in his time today, simply because less and less people seem to be listening to the style.
I agree with Bliss, Meyer, and Kam doing fine jobs... not the Emma Johnson part though... And how can you say Leister does not do a "fine job"? I'd say he does more than a fine job!
not in my opinion, no, he doesn't. I don't feel that's what Mozart would've wanted to hear. But, that's just my opinion. i could go more in depth, if you'd like.
Is something like this ever played the same way more than once? How you interpret as a musician depends very much upon state of mind and other factors. To give the best you must be relaxed and in tune with the orchestra, the conductor and audience. The atmosphere in recording environment,is different than a concert situation or rehearsal. I have attended rehearsals with soloists that were far better than the concerts, expecially when all were enjoying themselves, e.g. with Rafael Kubelik.

The ultimate and probably our hardest repertoire. There's so much you can do to it, but playing it in the right style is the most difficult part of playing it.
It's a very hard piece, but work on it very hard. Good luck with it!
Thumbs up if you are learning this!
This helped me with so many exams and auditions!
Thanks!

Really? It would be better if we all sat around writing in the style of Mozart?

@PhysicalsimForever I'd advise you to visit my page: (Username: Baroqueboy11)
I write in the Classical and baroque styles , and a large part of my music is inspired by Mozart, especially Symphonies no. 2 and 3.
Enjoy!

no. none of those clarinetists do a fine job.
Julian Bliss, Emma Johnson, Sabine Meyer and Sharon Kam all do a fine job at truly showing their interpretation on the mozart clarinet concerto.
Gets your performers straightened out. We're talking about MOZART'S repertoire here, not just if those clarinetists are your favorite or not.

...wish there was a video of the late Daniel Bonade doing this concerto.
...never seen dark key work on a clarinet before, what brand of clarinet is this?
I think Tony Pay plays it better than Andrew Marriner here.

Mozart died of rheumatic fever, I believe.

His phrasing is not only excellent in its own right, but completely in accord with Mozart's style. Great recording!

Wonderful preformance on this lovely piece.
Although when I played it, it was on the basset horn clarinet in A,as originally written, but anyways it sounds very good without.

I agree with what he says right at the start. It is the ultimate clarinet piece, and every serious clarinetist ought to perform it.
I'm working towards it now, and I'll perform it with an orchestra in a couple of years' time. Wish me luck!!
