  • Thanks man. Little trivia on that bleachers scene: It was supposed to be shot on a different day, at a different location (a highway overpass, I believe). Anyway, we finished shooting all the "house" scenes early and there was a school nearby with bleachers available, so I figured "why not?". Sometimes opportunity and laziness go together like peanut butter and jelly.

  • This is still my all~time fav Carlos!

  • I'm so glad to hear (or read?) that, Mel! Thanks!

  • Very good editing. Perfect music at the right moment. It was great that you didnt talk so much in the movie. That is usually the biggest mistake for amateurs like us, because we have such bad microphones. I really like the "blood-in-the-face-part". That was unexpected. I was jumping out from my chair! lol Good work dude!

  • WOW!!!!! Wasn't expecting such a great short like "Stolen" on YouTube Carlos! You are a very talented and complete filmmaker. Love your style, you've got a great future ahead of you! My son lives in NoHo, I noticed you checking out some of his stuff, "getsomecomedy & getsomefilm on here. Thanks for the exceptional film! Looking forward to a premiere of yours at the Arclight in the not too distant future.

  • Thank you mike! Yes, I'm a subscriber and fan of your son's work, and I try to watch and comment when I can. The Arclight is quite possibly my favorite theatre to go to, so I would love for that to happen some day!

  • i love how you made the people look as shadows sometimes and how the guys trying to decide wether or not to take the bag. I dont like it how he gets shot in the face. I like the transitions and how you use the traffic light as a forshadowing element

  • Thanks for taking the time to watch Stolen and comment on it. I understand if you didn't like the "shot in the face" scene; stuff like that tends to get very polarized reactions from people. But I'm glad you liked other moments in the video as well; I just realized after you mentioned it that the use of the traffic light isn't so far from the use of a Stop sign in my other short, Twenty Black! I'm repeating myself! ;-P

  • Yes very good indeed. I like the fact that there were no words until 5 minutes in. Good job.

  • Thank you for watching, and even bigger thanks for enjoying it!

  • truely amazing

  • Thank you so much! Sorry for the late reply, I meant to earlier but I think I'm getting slow in my old age! :-(

  • Good luck in your future endeavors.

    ;)

  • Thanks!

cherrera7. This was my 3rd viewing. Outstanding job! You put in a LOT of time and creativity in this one as well as the others that I have seen. I know that you have a bright future ahead of you as a director. Much success. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work.

    "cat"

  • Thank you, Thomas! It means a lot having someone with your experience say such kind words about me and this little movie. Whatever the future has in store, I'll certainly keep trying, that's for sure.

  • your style when it comes to putting everything together in a movie is simply brilliant

  • Thank you so much, Danielle!

  • Good job man, I like the way the music and the characters drive the story. Sometimes bad writing and dialog just pull away from a good film. I like it man. Check my stuff out if you get a chance. Thanks, SWS.

  • Thanks a lot, much appreciated! Trying to tell a story in as mostly a visual manner is something I'm interested in -- at least when I'm not making these blathering chat-fests that I've recently been tossing out. It's something I'm interested in doing again in the near future. I'll definitely check out your stuff soon as well.

  • This video is very good. I like the camera work and the shots were beautiful. There was some time put in to this. Amazing Job.

  • Thank you very much! There was definitely more time put into this one as opposed to the one before it, Twenty Black, which was a lot more, uh, *hectic* of a shoot in every respect. I wanted to try something with more of a classical, composed look as opposed to my usual run-and-gun jittery hand-held style. There's a video I want to try to make later this year that combines the best elements of both this one and Twenty Black. The key word here is "try". ;-)

  • Sounds great. Let us know when you start and finish it. Trust me we want to "try" everything.

  • I'm just watching this video again man and learning from you. Great job.

  • Yeah, this video is a great way to learn what NOT to do. ;-)

    Thanks!

  • CRAZY good, the camera work and suspence reminds me of Alfred hitchcock and diugloge reminds me of quintin taritio! great great work! best film on all of YOUTUBE you have a future

  • Thanks man! You're being way too kind -- but I'm certainly not going to complain! Thanks for putting this on your favorites too!

  • love the golf!

  • LOL, my friend Jason will appreciate that comment!

  • Just read the review. Congrats, your work deserves to be recognised!

  • Thanks for reading the review!

  • cool!

    very good video

  • Thanks for watching!

  • i want to write here somting about you and come 3 years later and see what will happend with you. i think

you are going to be a great film maker. now lets wait and see what will be with you. i bet on my instincs.

  • I certainly hope you're right! :)

  • Awesome !

  • I'm glad you liked it!

  • Quality

  • Thanks!

  • Another excellent film! Good luck with the Jessica Alba & Scarlett Johansson thing ;)

  • Thanks! The way I see it, my car got stolen a year after making the movie, and in December it will be a year since I've written the Jessica & Scarlett Fall In Love With Carlos script. It's just a matter of time, I reckon.

  • Riveting!

  • Thank you so much, Mudhooks! Glad to hear you got into it.

  • I'd give it 50 stars if that were possible!

  • Hey, nice pic. It is certainly the most mature of all your films.

  • Thank you very much sir, but I personally feel it could use a little more Gore and a little less Verbinski.

  • wow i really like this piece. i like the feel to it. great directing! very nice!

  • I'm glad you appreciated the 'feel' of the piece, since it was essentially a mood piece more than anything (that's code for 'no plot')! MelissaKnows that she likes this movie very much!

  • Excellent work. Good camerawork, crisp editing, engaging plot, good soundtrack. You also managed to tell the story and get us inside the character's head without much dialogue, which isn't easy. Good use of light and color.

All in all, excellent. I gave you 5 for this work.

  • Well done.

  • Thanks buddy, hope you enjoy the next one!

  • Some very nice work in there. I think some of my problem following the characters is the result of viewing on such a small screen. I also think that editing yourself is difficult. Some of the shot could have been edited more closely. Dan

  • wow great job! awesome piece!

  • Thanks. Figured at the very least you'd get a kick out of the fact that it was shot in your neck of the woods.

  • Good cinemotography. You got an eye for angles and composition... can you give me any tips on how to get your stuff seen on here?

  • Absolutely stunning. Wish I had something better to say... but, wow. -SW

  • How about I say it for you: "Carlos Herrera is one of the saints of the cinema, and 'Stolen' is his most heartbreaking prayer.-SW"

  • Awesome piece dude! Everything was great, nice cinematography too.

  • Thank you so much! *You* are an awesome piece! Wait, I take that back. That didn't sound right. I mean, you are a very nice person. Yeah, that sounds better. Where the *hell* did I get off calling you an 'awesome piece'? It's the booze, I tell ya.

  • I think you really got something here! Truely nice work! Too bad you guys are so far away, I'd love to work w/ you. Keep it up!

  • Too bad all of *you* guys are so far away, because I'd like to hug you all -- then ask if I could borrow a few bucks. Thanks for watching!

  • I've already seen this but I wanted to come back when I could actually comment and tell you how great it is.

    Well thought out.

    I enjoyed this much!

    :)

    More?

  • We were supposed to shoot the new one last weekend, but things happened, so of course we hope to start this coming weekend. The script turned out much longer than I anticipated, so it might take longer to make. Hang in there!

  • Great!

  • Good times, friend. Yours and everyone else positive comments are good times. Thank you.

  • Dramatic stuff, cleverly shot, good direction with an interesting plot. It would be very difficult not to watch it to the end to find out what happens.

  • I looked this up after your response on my comment over at the Istanbul video. That 'high praise' bit in itself was high praise, if that makes any sense (and I don't think it does, since I said it). But I think you get what I mean. Thank you and good luck.

  • Finally! A serious Independent project on YouTube... This was exceptional, I really enjoyed watching.

  • Sorry for posting this so late, but I wanted to thank you so much for enjoying this. Now, go check on your cat, I think he's about to push over the lamp!

  • WOW really good. damn

  • Thanks so much. Glad you like it. Hope you like the next one!

  • the beginning was kind of confusing, but it kept my attention, not sure why you used B7W at all but yea I loved the gunfight, and how you "zoomed" in in a cut on each shot that was good times, must have been fun playing with all that fake blood.... i donno how many times I'd crack up with that sort of stuff... overall it turned out well I liked it... and this is the sort of stuff I wish i could find on youtube more often... keep up the good work!

  • B7W = B&W

  • Pretty much all my movies are confusing. That's a problem I'm hoping to fix. Seriously, my own friends and family say they like what they see, even if they couldn't understand it!

The blood was good times...until it came time to clean it. Then I wished I had left the violence to the imagination instead of showing it. It's Rated G movies from now on!

  • hehe yea id have to agree XD i liked it the same way... :)

  • cool cinematography. Good job.

  • Thank you for watching!

  • Very solid. I enjoyed.

  • Very impressive piece of cinematic story telling.

  • Very nice work. Great pacing, acting, cinematography, music and direction. I thoroughly enjoyed this piece.

  • The therapy session known as what it is,"Stolen", is what is going to put Carlos on the map as one of your generations, trully awesomest film maker.

  • She's referring to my calling this movie "therapy" to help get over the disastrous experience I had on my last video project I did for school called Twenty Black. That's her trying to cheer me up.
