Truely Joel is one of the Best diatonic players around any where.I love the way he broke it down. All improv, played as he felt it comeing,I would like to see more from that day,If have more to post Karlito.
The truth of the matter is that Joel is an extermely talented accordionist who can adapt & "compete" in any style, just ask him to play some Vallenato & see what he puts together. But like Hohner1973 saids it not about competion it's an artform and respect for various music styles & at this level of playing you can't ask for better it's simply personal preference
you are correct, chiinkwan..he can't compete with Colombian vallenato players..and guess what? they couldn't compete with him either! you know why?!..this is an ARTFORM, NOT A SPORT...IT'S MUSIC NOT A SOCCER MATCH
I understand. The bajo player had just accompanied Joel and the workshop participants on Idalia and some other tunes and I think more than anything was surprised that Joel even asked him to accompany him on this improv. Javi actually sings and plays bajo sexto with Ruben Vela.
It's like trying to compare Arturo Sandoval to Dizzy Gillespie....two masters, two diffrent styles. Music its not about "trying to compete" just enjoy it
wow man i really like this. 5 stars and i favorited it. you make it almost sound like a harmonica in some places....but they are both free reed instruments so i guess that makes sense
did anyone see him perform in the accordion festival on september in " La Villita" in San Antonio... he was playing with Flaco Jimenez and Sunny Sauceda from grupo vida... CAN ANYONE PUT UP A VIDEO... i wanna see it again..
Lord have mercy! You wail on that tiny little accordion! I've never heard the accordion played like that! (I am a fellow accordionist, however not in any way, shape or form at your level)

i wish the bajo player would've put in some jazzier chords. in stead of limiting him to a standard blues rotation.

it's really good but couldn't compete with Colombian vallenato accordion players.

Well, that would be because he doesn't play Vallenato music. Your comparring apples and oranges - He plays [Tejano]Conjunto.
