buddy, love your enthusiasm.. and I love the fact that we both both love the CruncH! but save your self some time and peace of mind and buy one the new Trangia kits (25 or 27).. they rock!!
I got the unit for $199 on sale at REI and as I said, the software library that is included with the unit is fantastic. Works ok in the car, works great on hikes. Again, battery life is my biggest complaint.
We got a gps for our car, but my brother has a much nicer one that he uses hiking in the woods. We're looking for one to take out hiking. Thanks for the video :)
Well in the Midwest here, there does not seem to be a problem with heavy canopy. We, of course have woods and trees, but from my experience it does not have a problem. It does seem to have issues when there is cloud cover, but I would imagine all GPS' have that issue. I have a bigger issue keeping charged batteries. As I said the frequency of the recording interval, as well as backlight use seems to have the biggest impact. I am very happy with the unit, but this is my first GPS experience.

I'm still holding off from gps devices, I'm probably the only guy left, but I still prefer using a map and compass.
I've been on the road & trail with buddies that use tomtoms & garmins & they're nice, but for now my navigation is 2D :)
Thanks for the cook system update, the hardwire should be great for this use.
Always like to see what guys are using & changing to make their systems work better.
The gear tweaking never ends
