its so awesome to notice how syd-pink floyd was so theatrical and light hearted, nosyd-pinkfloyd is now sooo low tempo, and heavy .. both amazing and trippy on terms of different natures , i guess we all know who decided to stay back on the light side of the moon watching his friends/band mates migrate to the darkness............ !!!!!!

To think I used have a perfect FM stereo recording of this from the Friday Rock show who broadcast it in about 1982 and that's long gone now as it mashed up years ago.
I'd love to zap myself into The Shining, sit alongside Jack Torrance at the bar, and hear this song quietly drifting from a jukebox at the far corner of the room.
I will be honest, I have never taken the time to listen to Pink Floyd song ever.... BUT THIS SONG RIGHT HERE MADE ME A FAN!!!!! Please send me other songs that are on this level people lol...
@chicagobleek Hard to say; I'd try a bit of all the songs on dark side of the moon; most of the songs on "momentary laps of reason" have this kind of synthesizer "vibe" (such as "learning to fly").
@chicagobleek every pink floyd's song is special and fantastic.. so I'll only tell you my favourite ones : shine on you crazy diamond, echoes, a saucerful of secrets (from live at pompeii), the dark side of the moon (full album), astronomy domine, confortably numb.. have a nice listening!!
Wow I love how this song makes you see colours, or how I can allmost smell rubbing alcahol from a hostpital when I listen to "Brain damage", or how "Comftorbly numb" makes me feel intoxicated. Floyd is good at that.
why do you need weed to enjoy this song? the song is a drug itself, just watch the stars without that lame pot. pot is overrated as hell. artificial happiness...
No band could jam quite like Pink Floyd, eh?... The jam sessions in echoes and atom heart mother are awsome. then you got the ones on piper and this one...... Best Band ever!!!...
@stufftodo2. Because in the early 70 ( 72-73)pink Floyd had yet to come up visuals for songs they relaesed an. Unedited version of a visual for money but I have yet to find it on the Internet CYKB am was the first radio station that filmed a visual for a song in 73. I beleive the song was great gig in the sky after that all the radio stations faught for the rights to all gig footage
Yeah man,, this is so tripping balls man,, listening to this when your high and take walk while the sun is setting,, beautiful...this is really timeless...by the way what is kalei mode?
I relistened to this lately while i was stoned. i took a long walk down a very thin dirt road between the the autumn trees and atmosphere, the red, yellowish and orange of the trees and plants faded together with my soul. it was magiacal.

@Nacho66 I agree to an extent... a lot of wonderful stuff has been done with drum machines and samples by wonderful artists, but you make a great point nonetheless. You had to be good in order to be big. =)

todos estos morros estan igual que miguelito, quisieramos ver el video cuando se gestaron o minimo cuando se comenzaron a sonar estas deliciosas rolas del pink floyd, bola de pachecos, jajaja saludos a todos
This song was so epic when Roger played it here in Brazil two years ago... It's still the most awesome instrumental song I've ever heard, maybe tied with One of These Days. Rick plays the synth so greatly... oh, RIP. It's a shame that most of people think only about Time or Money when someone says Dark Side of the Moon, when Any Colour You Like/Brain Damage/Eclipse make the greatest moments of the album, closing it greatly...
Love the album version, and I find it a lot better than this...awesome synth / guitar combo. I dunno, maybe cause I smoke weed and the album version is a lot more trippy
This live version of this song is truly great. The ambient video of the moon coming closer and closer in a towards the viewer in a lively manner sets the mood and theme of such a masterpiece.
spooninspoon: You and me both, buddy. Most of the bands that are out now lick testicular areas and suck a fat male reproductive organ. ;) Pink Floyd is and always will be the greatest.
You cats check on the net and find out how long this album was on the charts...this shit dont come along everyday. Dont worry; there are still good musicians out there. Somewhere.
A little something to chew on-- If you lived in the 60's and 70's, would you think that music from the era was garbage and the previous generation's music was superior? Kinda like how today, will people think this generation's music is superior to the next's? (Quick disclaimer, I love basically all music; 60's-80's being my favorite. I'm just throwing something out there to think about...)
lol i had the same question but i asked alot of people who grew up in that age and from what i got it seemed that the beatles brought a music revolution and it was out with the old in with the new, but people naturally enjoyed tallented music not the bs we have today.
If you lived in the 60s you´d be certain that their music was far better than that of the 50s. But from 70s on, well, everything looked inferior to what have been done before, even though many great stuff was being done then. Nothing like Dark Side has been recorded prior to it, but yet many people back then thought it was crap
Indeed! The blend of the steel lap guitar/volume swells melting in with perfect coincidence with those warm keyboards was/is orgasmic. Don't you still get chills when the beginning "preview" of Breathe picks up and erupts into the melodic guitar of David's?

Yeah, it sucks not being able to see PF today (or ever again), especially with Rick's death :(
Looks like well just have to settle for current musicians like daft punk and justice (as some guy below me recommended).
You know their shows are equally awesome, just two guys sitting up on a platform with laptops pushing buttons that make noises while their songs play pre-recorded :(
whoops i know...Mr..Waters wasen't in pulse,,it was Guy Pratt i apoligize to everyone on the Earth includingMr.Gilmour.i says, my faveroite bass part of any colour is pulse version with waters...but dugh,,,i knew i had already made an error....but guy does pull those strings groovy in the begining of pulse, any colour.
i do, absolutly love the bass notes in this piece. the keys and timing and sound of Rick are amazing!! this verson is so peaceful and warming. So groovy!
My girlfriend hates pink floyd and says there annoying i just dont understand that. Yet she claims to like bands that sound just like pink floyd. I think she just hates them because alot of people like them.
this one last 8 minutes is just cutted to fit in the video but search the complete version is 8 minutes long while the studi version is 3 minutes long
I like a lot how Waters changes the bass lines from the record version. Pink floyd was a real jazz group, able to change music from one year to another.
What I mean is that they have something that other pop rock groups doesn't have: they develop songs, they let to evolute them as the jazzmen do( with the fact that from one year to another the songs mutate to new gems, like this song).
0:35 That thing comes in like a winged psychedelic horse through the gates of heaven, taking me to my happy place!

oh man they totally changed the guitar solo, to great results. but the synth sounded fine, real creamy and smooth.

I like a lot how Waters changes the bass lines from the record version. Pink floyd was a real jazz group, able to change music from one year to another.

Haha, did you just call them a jazz group?

What I mean is that they have something that other pop rock groups doesn't have: they develop songs, they let to evolute them as the jazzmen do( with the fact that from one year to another the songs mutate to new gems, like this song).

I agree 1000 percent! floyd is a jazz fusion rock group
