This episode of KN is my fav. Peters is Hilarious. However USA s02 shows G.R. going to all the S1 rest. for an update, He went back to every place except Peter's. I have an inkling that that was no accident. The only 2 still working are Peter & his Sis. Everyone else was gone, why cause Peter fired them all & I think Gordon snubbed his update cause he liked the head chef & staff. This was the only head chef Ive ever seen on KN who Ramsey didn't put through the ringer.

So (being American myself) I am curious if this is so bad because it's the way Americans act, or if this show has been "Foxified" and simply amped up and the people told to act certain ways to increase the "drama."

The BBC version of this show is so much better I can't believe it.

FOXified. But these family members have flamboyant behaviours on their own, it seems. I was born in and lived in the US my entire life, never so far even managed to get out even on a vacation...NEVER met anyone like these people.

But you're right, the US version of this show is loaded with artificial attempts to inflate what they consider drama: splicing facial expressions from different days and scenes, corny music, &c. Entertainment in the US seems to feel a need to dumb things down.

It's true I never liked the show until I saw clips of the Uk version which aired here in Canada. Fox always ruins British shows!!! Yuk I feel sorry for Gordon. If i were him I skip this place and go the next restaurant instead of having to listen to this stereotypical Italian restaurant. I was watching one of the UK series ones today, the Walnut Tree episode. The editing flowed smoothly, there weren't needless recaps at the beginning of every segment following a commercial that spent 2 minutes reviewing what was shown in the last segment...honestly, you watch the US Kitchen Nightmares shows, and it's like less than 45 minutes of showtime in an hour long program to begin with after the commericials...why waste 10 of those 45 minutes recapping segments of the same episode? Lazy.

Yeah you totally need to see the Mama Cherri's episode because she's from the South and she opened her restaurant up in the UK since her husband is British. Yeah omg her food looked so good!!! It made me so hungry but for Southern food I've only tried a little before since my aunt lives in Atlanta but are family is from Grenada so she makes it differently. I want to go to the South though to try Cajun food yum :) but not in the large portions!! Too much!! There's so much variety in the UK too!

I saw that one. Her food did look quite good. Not huge on Cajun myself, mostly because I now live in the South and it's all over the place (so many restaurants have Cajun dishes on the menus, although not too many of those dishes are actually much to write home about) + I can't handle overly spicy food of any kind very well anymore.

Even on prime time NBC had a show called Life airing a couple of months ago and it was a good detective show with top notch actors but what do they do..?? They canceled it!!! Instead they'll put some shitty show in to replace it. Even the show Kings which was descent and poorly marketed got canceled. I'm so going to watch the whole season now because I'm pissed that they ended it so soon. :(

It just seems that so little thought or care goes into most of these reality shows, and I think you're a 100% correct about the sheer amount of them diluting the impact. Virtually all of them have some kind of contest going on, they're all staged to the point where I wonder where the spontaneity one associates with "reality" is to be found...and they've all cross-copied each other to the point where with all that programming incest going on all these shows are turning out like retarded children.

yeah the US is so lazy when it comes to reality shows they do the same thing with wife swap and talent shows etc. The over hype everything!! Even watching Kitichen wars I think the US one is trying to be like big brother in a kitchen lol!! The UK big brother show's even better except this season it seems lame but the American version is more scheming and competitive. The Australian version is like a combination of both. I haven't seen Hells Kitchen Aussie though.

Tell me about it! Is it any coincidence that as more and more channels became available to tv viewers in starting in the mid 1980s that the overall quality of tv started to nosedive? It may be a function of romanticizing the past, but I seem to remember enjoying tv a lot more when it was just ABC, NBC, CBS and PBS. Shows like Hill St. Blues, Barney Miller, M*A*S*H*, etc. Even the news channels these days stink compared to the days of Cronkite - so little on these news channels of interest. Pity.

Exactly too much variety dillutes the product . Same thing happens in the music industry. For example RnB music in the late 90's started having to many collaborations with rappers. So the music became dull and too commercial. I'm all for a descent duet but both artists have to be talented. All the talented artists in Hiphop and get pushed underground because the record companies just think about making money. to be continued....>>

That's only because in America we have way more TV channels to choose from. Studios need to over hype things and cause more drama to get viewers to care about watching their show over others. In other countries there is a lot less variety on TV and so it's less likely the viewer become bored and switched to something else.
