haha nice i live in Australia every year we get all different types of cockatoos coming to our house, they love eating almonds from our trees, a lot of times the whole flock comes to eat, about 40 of them and i only live 15mins from the city, don't even have to go to the bust to see them :)
youll have those scars for a while those nails they have can do some mager damage have a look at my cockatoo video have one of him opening his cage a running away
Wow. Who knew that wild cockatoos, would be so personable? They seem so friendly. We designed a cockatoo piece that we're particularly proud of. If you like cockatoos, we recommend taking a gander at it and let us know what you think!
I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in my own home town. I have grown up here in the Blue Mountains. unfortunately many of the locals here don't like the Sulphur Crested Cockatoos but I just think they are gorgeous. They are not shy and they love to be fed (although bread isn't so good to feed them) by people.
Those cuts - That's what you get for being such a well trained feeding station! Can you remember what park this was in at Glenbrook (there are quite a few)? Glenbrook is only half an hour from here so I might head up there on the weekend.
@parrotscience Oh yeah, I've heard of that place - very nice area, such a shame about the problem it has with Brown Snakes, Death Adders and Red-Bellied Black snakes . . . not to mention the funnel-web spiders . . .
Hehe nah they're not that problematic. That said, in the unlikely event that anyone visiting here gets bitten by a spider or a snake, don't stuff around, call emergency services. A 15 year old was killed by a brown snake in Western Sydney last year - only 20 miles east of this place
Sometimes I wish I could enjoy Cockatoos from afar, like this in the wild. I have a Cockatoo, who, in my estimation is like having a "rain man" in the family...lol.
Those bites it's more the pressure then the cut that causes the most trauma. But Cockatoos are noted for there friendliness (when kept as pets) and it's likely they have a lot of human exposure at that reserve.
logic may suggest those parrots are wild however people might already been there cause it's weird how the parrots stand on the hand like they have done that before
You were lucky to have escaped w/ those wounds. Cool experience, but I certainly wouldn't recommend it... especially with the enough biting force to crack open a walnut, a thumb or finger would be like a cocktail pepperoni. At least you didn't have kids out there. Then I'd have to smack you. =?p
Your really shouldn't feed wild cockies, it can make them to dependent on the person handing out food... I know form experience there used to be a cockatoo that would walk into my kitchen if the door was open and beg for food =\
One feed Will Not Make them Dependant on People handing out food, And before you argue the point of if "everyone does it once" or something along those lines Just consider the maths behind it.
@FBIRyan umm hey why do people complain about there bites so much huh? my macaws bites dont even hurt parakeet bites hurt more there like sharp jagged little beak diggin into your skin
There nails are designed for scrapping off inchs of bark off of tree's, flesh it like a sharp knife with paper :X They're also known to split open pine cones, those are hard to open.
ew have two rescued ones. Peaches a Moluccan, abandoned at age 16 y/o and Albert, Umbrella Cockatoo, wife of the couple is terminally ill. we love them dearly and they are spoiled rotten. the kids already compete to see which ones will raise them when we are gone. 5 stars, and fave.
Nice touch with the creative "don't do this at home" at the end; kind of still have the horror crow movie where one starts scouting a person and suddenly they start swarming all over from all directions and the girls start screaming!! Lol.
LOL! I guess you were probably expecting claw marks anyhoo, if they were going to land on you. ;-) They need em sharp for all that tree climbing malarkey.
2:14 priceless, they sit next to you like old friends discussing a story. and they are certainly not shy are they and yes they have an extra painful bite they have a three pronged beak with beveled botom beaks that form corners on the two edges.
Nice video guys real nice.

You do know that your not supposed to feed wild birds because if people keep feeding them they won't know how to find the food their selves

I do not get why anyone hates those cockys. when they scratch you its only because they have grasping tallens

Beautyful birds.
But from their reaction, it seems like they are used to getting fed by people.
Oh and also: Alfred Hitchcock comes to mind ^^

It's not good to feed birds bread--harmful for them. Feed bird seeds (like sunflower seeds) instead.
MarthaH605 1 year ago
@MarthaH605 It's not good to feed them seeds either. An abundance of seeds in there diet kills there liver. far better off with proteins or fruits.

A.) You have a miniature macaw of some type.
B.) You're macaw never bit you with full force.
Our macaw doesn't often bite with full force.
But when she does, it's over.
Our friend had to go to E.R. to put back on half his lip.
And I've been close to full force and had crushed bones / deep scars.
