In this show, Clarabelle was played by Lew Anderson, Chief Thunderthud by Bill LeCornec, and Mr. Carney probably by Larry Mann. Without knowing, I'd guess this show at 1957.
Anderson, a noted jazz musician, returned to play Clarabelle on the show's revival in 1976. Mann, who is still alive, appeared frequently in movies and on TV. He would be best remembered in films as the train conductor in "The Sting" and on TV as Judge Oberman on "Hill Street Blues"
I believe thats a mexican playing a native american, probably cause the americans exterminated them all for being such fucking racist assholes,i cant believe even in the 50s they showed them as stupid loser villians
There isnt much difference,in american terms theyre a minor race too i mean, natives from america too,so sad they exterminated them all for stupid reasons
I'm as much as a critic of Capitalism as anyone. And yes, I've read large segments of Kapital as well (just too boring to read the whole thing-- worse than Darwin in this respect). But this segment here is a riot. In addition the, allegorical meaning is unmistakable. In a minute and a half, the kids were taught everything their eventual teachers in school would have never taught them about US foreign policy. The Chief's the US. Claribel is Ho Chi Minh. The big bully aggressor loses in the end.
I remember how excited I was when the Howdy Doody show 'moved" from New York to Burbank Studios (to celebrate the opening of the new color studios in Burbank). I figured Howdy was in California to stay! I remember how disappointed I was when they left Bubank and returned to New York -- without giving me a chance to be in the peanut gallery!
Years later, when I was a writer on Laugh-In, I met Bob Smith and shook hands with Howdy Doody. Google search "rowby videos" for that photo! ...Rowby
Hi KingConservative. Remember it was the Greatest Generation that produced this show and the rest of first generation TV. My mother successfully fought off the introduction of a TV set ("Idiot Box") in our home for several years. Eventually resistance was futile. By the way, it was capitalism that gave children this playhouse mixed with commercial jingles, while communism raised stoic little adults with lectures about the dangers of capitalist drivel that would rot the West to the core.
If the Chief was really that smart,he'd know that if he opened that door,he'd be squirted.Val Carney sure has a good sense of humor about the whole thing.
"Val Carney" was played by Bob Nicholson,Bill Lecornec played"Chief Thunderthud" and Lew Anderson was the third and last performer to play"Clarabell".
By the time this episode aired, Judy Tyler, who played "Princess SummerFallWinterSpring", had left the series (she only appeared on it between 1951 and 1954). Tragically, after filming "Jailhouse Rock" with Elvis Preseley, she died, with her husband, in an automobile accident in July 1957.

I love the golden age of television, but this looks like straight up garbage, I guess I had to be there.

This is what ruined the generation after the greatest generation, by giving them shit like this to watch instead of lecturing them about communism.
