  • if you play it on the GBA there is no screen flicker.

  • The problem is obvious.

The GBA has no blast processing.

  • Physics, how would Sonic be albe to run up Loop de loops then. And play it on the real Gameboy cause when I play it on the Game Boy, the game works with non of this

  • "It's 2D, with some features similar to the classics. What more do you want? Oh wait..."

Physics, don't you have half-decent comprehension skills?

"Despite the fact that everything you're doing is exactly what a Sonic "fan" (a person who bitches about everything) would do."

Nope, just the physics and how Sonic 4 wasn't a classic gameplay experience.

Anything else you want to nitpick at?

  • The only redeeming feature I see in this game is that you actually gained speed from jumping and rolling down a slope.

Dare I say this game is better then Sonic 4/'06 because of it?

  • @bad1boy34:

    lol your troll logic.

"Duurrrr you gets speed from rolling on hills derefore dis gaem is betta yahhhhh"

Fucking speed boosts exist for a goddamn reason.

  • @DinerSals I don't know how you don't feel embarrassed after posting such an idiotic comment, but I'll explain my train of thought when I posted my comment and maybe if you have more brain function then you have currently led me to believe, you'll understand.

"Oh damn, this game is a really bad port of a good game, but at least it does have some physics elements, unlike Sonic 4 and '06."

Of course this port isn't better then S4/06, it's a shitty port and therefore a shitty game.

    Pathetic.

  • @bad1boy34:

    If you wrote this:

"Dare I say this game is better then Sonic 4/'06 because of it?"

    But though this:

"Oh damn, this game is a really bad port of a good game, but at least it does have some physics elements, unlike Sonic 4 and '06."

    You must be freaking insane.

  • @DinerSals Speed boosts ruined whatever "classic" element that Sonic 4 was supposed to have.

They're there to compensate for the lack of momentum-based gameplay that was more then plentiful in the three classic titles.

At least this game has some physics, was my point.

You just had to be a hypocrite and troll me, though.

  • @bad1boy34:

    lol at your retarded comment.

"This game lacks momentium but it sucks more for trying to compensate by giving you free chances to give you speed."

    Ungrateful fuck.

  • @DinerSals I don't know why I would be grateful for a game that wasn't what it was promised to me.

    Pathetic troll fuck.

  • @bad1boy34:

    Why?

OH RIGHT, because fat Sonic isn't the main character and you want to fall off loops.

    Dumb ass.

  • @DinerSals You're a bad troll.

Stop trying so hard - you understand my point of view so don't even bother acting like you don't, because if you don't understand my point of view you're obviously more socially retarded then I'm giving you credit for.

... the game is called Sonic 4 yet it uses an engine that's not even remotely similar (physics/gameplay wise) to the one that the three previous titles had.

    Idiot.

  • @bad1boy34:

Maybe because the freaking engine's outdated and Sonic 4 is made BY A DIFFERENT COMPANY?!

But if Mario did it, you'd swallow that shit up.

  • @DinerSals I didn't know that replicating an engine made twenty years ago (emphasis on twenty) was that hard with today's tools and people's current programming skill. By the way, I never said that Sonic 4 had to use the outdated engine, just that it's engine is nothing like the outdated one.

Also, Dimps should have never collaborated with Sonic team to make pieces of shit they call "Sonic games".

By the way - not a Mario fan.

  • @bad1boy34:

"Dimps should have never collaborated with Sonic team to make pieces of shit they call "Sonic games"."

Implying they're "pieces of shit" because they aren't Sonic 2.5.

  • @DinerSals Because it's not the "classic gameplay experience" that was promised.

Like I said, you're a bad troll, so stop trying.

  • @bad1boy34:

    Yes it is.

You're just an unpleasable cunt who wants everything exactly how it was when you were a child BECAUSE you were a child.

If the times were switched, you'd want everything to be like Sonic 4.

  • @DinerSals Sonic 4 was supposed to be a classic gameplay experience.

If all previous titles were like Sonic 4 then I couldn't be disappointed, period.

"If" isn't an argument because it doesn't accurately reflect the current situation and isn't a fact. You should either stop deflecting or stop replying - it's kind of pathetic how you prejudice me both as a fan and as a person.

By the way, I'm under the impression that you're still a child, at least I WAS one.

  • @bad1boy34:

"Sonic 4 was supposed to be a classic gameplay experience."

It's 2D, with some features similar to the classics. What more do you want? Oh wait...

"I'm under the impression that you're still a child, at least I WAS one."

    What?

"it's kind of pathetic how you prejudice me both as a fan and as a person."

Despite the fact that everything you're doing is exactly what a Sonic "fan" (a person who bitches about everything) would do.

  • Words cannot describe how dissapointed I am in Sonic Team for failing to port one the best Sega Genesis games to a system that is just as powerful (if not more so) as the Sega Genesis. It's even worse, though that SEGA actually PUBLISHED this piece of junk! If SEGA want their fans back, they'll have to do better than this!

  • @psychoTR2:

You know this was made in 200 and fucking 6, right?

  • @DinerSals Yup, all the more reason for it to be better. Not only that, but someone who wasn't even any part of SEGA made a perfect port of Sonic 1 to the GBA. This only shows that SEGA totally half-arsed this port. SEGA could've done way better, the GBA has 32-bit processing. That's more than what the Genesis had. There's no excuse for this.

  • @psychoTR2:

But you're talking as if it was recent.

  • @DinerSals I know it wasn't recent, I'm just saying that they weren't showing the game that made them famous due respect. They gave us a half-baked port. Like I said, someone not from SEGA made a perfect port of it to the GBA. I'm sure SEGA could do better than what that guy did, but they didn't. Recent or not, this is the point I'm trying to make. I'm sorry if I offended you.

  • @psychoTR2:

    It's alright, I didn't understand it.

  • I remember playing the first sonic on Mega Collection (yes I first played it on that game) Thinking "Whoa this is awesome!!!" And one day I was at Target, and I saw the Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis. I thought it looked amazing so I asked my mom if I could get it, well I went home with the game in my hands and started to play it. I noticed something was wrong, and since then I realized there was a living piece of crap in my house

  • And the physics are STILL better than Sonic 4...

  • @soggytoast111:

No they're aren't, fuck off, troll.

  • You shouldn't do remakes of sega games on nintendo consoles.

They might turn out to be bad

  • I think they did this on purpose to get more people to buy sonic 4. Just fucked up.

  • Sega isn't even trying. Gosh , the Iphone version is better than this.

  • Uh, you don't need to spin down that hill to get enough speed to crash thru the wall in Green Hill Zone Act 2. You can easily get enough of a running start to crash thru it on the small platfrom before the wall. Or also you can use the speed shoes that are right in front of the wall to easily generate enough momentum.

  • At least it isn't as bad as *shudders* "Somari"

  • Its good that the video is cheaply made! why give such an awful game the time of day!

  • or you could just think of it this way... nintendo have almost all the rights to sonic so stop nit picking... wtf can u do exccept bitch about somin that wont fuckin change anything :S

  • Is this nintendo's answer to Sega games?

  • It's a little sad because nearly every 16-bit-to-GBA port was much better. Sure the sound was downgraded and the visuals were a bit more washed out, but it was still the same core game with some games having all new extras. Games like A Link to the Past, Super Mario Bros 3, Donkey Kong Country 3, and the Final Fantasy games have new enemies, areas, and even bosses.

Sonic Genesis is literally nothing but a direct port with horrible physics and a broken spindash system. Nothing new adds to it.

  • @ShakinJamacian Sonic the Hedgehog 1 didn't have the spindash you noob.

  • This was probably due to them being angry that they had to port their Gem to their rival.

  • I do not have any problems when I play it.

  • Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis GBA is the absolute worst video game I've ever played in my entire life (and this is coming from someone who actually enjoyed Sonic Next Gen).

And me being a huge Sonic fan made the overall experience for me even worse.

  • All I have to say is;

The music isn't expected coming from a GBA. Have you played the Sonic Advance series? Or Mario? Zelda? What about Metroid Fusion? All of them have great quality, amazing sound. Some of them even work in surround sound on the Game Boy Player! The game is poorly made. That's all there is to it. Whoever ported it, really didn't care less. I have Sonic The Hedgehog on my iPod touch, and it's awesome.

  • Another reason i dislike sega. Mostly just for their marketing in the 90s, saying the genesis was more poweeful than the snes, which is false advertising lol

  • Port fail. If I had the resources SEGA had, I would have done a LOT better. And that's saying something, cause so far I suck :\

  • shame on you SEGA

  • hard to believe Sonic 1 on the ipod did a lot better.

  • great video... u have been offically subscribed by me lol

  • There are a lot more issues in this game than stated in this video, these include the ability to bounce on Robotnik multiple times for cheap victories, timer based issues, constant lag and slowdowns (especially when hit), broken spindash charge animation collision detection, horrid collision detection in general and numerous typos.

This from someone who owned and played the origonal GBA cartridge, its not worth buying.

Hopefully Sonic Classic Collection for DS doesn't come out like this.

  • Good vid, shows the flaws of the game to the point i'd feel ripped off getting this... NINTENDO SEAL OF QUALITY? It's an embarrassment to SEGA too!

The music in the game is worse than midi on MSGS, which i do not use. Some of the notes in the songs are the wrong pitch, and the sound effects have leading silence [they dont immediately start playing] noticable when the rings are picked up... (think: sound lag) I could have done better 15 yrs ago. with a sb16 and ctwave.exe on win 3.11, sheesh.

  • dude this game is OLDSCHOOL... which means that they should have ported it completely fine. This isn't an entirely new game at all, it's a remake. Seriously, the game is fine on the Genesis and the GBA is at least twice as powerful as the Genesis. There's no way that the GBA can't handle it. The developers plainly just did not care.

  • @arashi618

have u ever played the original version of this on a PAL megadrive console ?

    that sucked pretty bad also

seems they didnt care about porting it to 50hz mode either

  • As said by others, this was simply a poor port. If you google around there is a homebrew effort to port Sonic 1 to the GBA and the demo available is far, far more authentic and plays better!

For what it's worth I can program games and I believe I could do better than this...

  • @mnprg fair enough dude..im not to fused anyway i dont play it . personally i prefer new games lol ... well if u can program games go for it :)

  • @mnprg I Swear Ive Seen Better Things In A Scratch Project...

  • @mnprg what color is your gba?

  • stealth actually did make a great port of sonic 1 on the gba... as a homebrew

  • @whatugundo Normally I allow idiots like you to make a complete fuck ass out of yourself, but you NEED to hear this. You don't know WHO (some shitty 3rd party company, not Sega) POORLY programmed this port, and Sega had the audacity to sell it in its obviously unfinished and shitty state. It's more to it than it being 'old school'. Plenty of 'old school' games were ported - but they performed MUCH better than this. Think next time before talking and educate yourself as well. :P

  • @acuidad ..mate with psp,ps3.xbox 360 and pc desktop/laptop....who the fuck cares ?? this games is probably older than you .. who the fuck still plays this junk neway ?

  • What about the sound of the Chaos Emeralds?

  • You probably have a ROM on your comp. I have the game, some of the stuff you said was right, but the music and gameplay is decent if not good

  • Yes a ROM was used to create this video. But I have played the real cartridge, and others have too and they agree with the problems I've found.

You're entitled to your opinion ofcourse - glad someone managed to get some fun out of the game!

  • Now they are making it again on the DS... along with the three other originals. Be prepared to make another video...

  • Oh... no!

Hopefully they have learnt from this mistake and it will be good? I really hope it will be.

If not, there will be another video....

  • @mnprg Yes it is good.YAY For Lock on Technology!

  • lol all they have to do is port the game to a gba file and add it the cart there yea go same game just on gba

  • well... its obvious what the problem here is... Gba is missing that one ingredient...something Nintendo coud never posess like the Genesis did..... BLAST PROCESSING

  • DeathmatchTeen: ...If you look into it, the GBA has about *double* the "BLAST PROCESSING" that the Genesis/MegaDrive had. That's not an excuse.

  • lol ahh dude im only jokin around

  • I thought that was the MEGACD/SEGA CD?

  • Comment removed

  • Genesis does what Nintendon't!

  • I wonder if the original Somari pirates made this piece of shit?

  • I was the sucker who bought this game for $20. Marble zone and especially Labyrinth zone are extremely laggy

  • Actually the only thing wrong with this video is the jump hieght thing. It's the same, just the GBA screen.

However, Stealth made a port for GBA that is WAY better. It was to counter act this crapfest. Same sounds and physics. Only 3 acts of stage 1 and a secret access labrynth zone, but it proves the point and you can play as knuckles and tails by the title determining the buttens pressed.

They needed to rearange the musc better and leave it apart of anniversary mode, rather just a dash.

  • Another thing wrong with the physics is how sonic moves about during hills. The Stealth one spot on however. Team sonic dares to bring this to my layre? Team Sonic. Must. DIE!!

  • Looks more disgusting than Pacman on the Atari 2600...you've definitly proved your point here.

  • at least they are not as bad as earthbound

  • Yea right. I challenge you to prove this because this is the official game :)

  • Comment removed

  • This travesty sullies the fine Sonic name.

  • No, NOT the Genesis masterpiece. But seriously, guys, the GBA train wreck of a remake should have NEVER been made.

  • Comment removed

  • LOL

  • Depending on the timing of the platform, the jump and rolling trick doesn't appear to work 100% of the time on the MD/Genesis version either.

Mind you, it does work a good majority of the time, but not every single time, even when jumping at the same position with the same time on the clock.

Perhaps it may be necessary to try it a few more times on the GBA version? Not saying the physics aren't broken on it, just making an observation. :3

  • Thanks for your comment. Yes I tried several times with no luck... have you managed to get it to work on the GBA version?

  • Never touched the GBA version. I'm not brave enough ;)

  • Instead of making remakes over and over... maybe they should expand on the principles of the storyline?

I mean, Sonic 3 & Knuckles is my all time favourite Sonic game. It had depth, a lot of replay value, and so many game endings. And Hyper Sonic I adored. Bring it back!

  • Comment removed

  • I had the same problems with sound effects in the port they made to the Dreamcast.

  • segas out of bisnes

  • They didn't try. They ported an already made game and didn't even beta test.

  • looks like this game needs blast processing!

  • And lots of it!

  • Horried it's just horrid.

  • This video is good and tells the truth how bad this game was ported lets just say my childhood memories of this game have not been RAPED! Congradulations sega on RAPEING MY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES

  • rofl

  • This game is a disgrace to the Sonic name.

  • Anyone noticed the sound effects are from the original Game Gear Sonic 1 ??????????

  • They should of did a direct port instead of a remake.

  • How do they screw up one of the most popular sonic games?! Espesially when its on a more recent console!

  • Great vid! Geez, Sega can't make a good Sonic game, let alone a REMAKE of a good Sonic game. Wtf?

  • If they had made this game like they made Sonic Advance, it would've been great. But no. They make a slow Sonic with strange music and SFX, and try to call it the original game.

If they had worked on this a bit more, it would've been good. But it's just barely tolerable. SEGA fans should stick to the port from Sonic Mega Collection.

  • I don't like this game because of the bad physics, feels like you are in water the whole time and at parts you speed up, it's awful. They should have made this game 100% more smooth like the Gen. one.

  • I wonder if they will try again on the DS...

  • I honestly don't understand how something like this could happen... Honestly, I don't mind the music being dumbed down a bit or the added sound effects... but did they not care about the other stuff? Were they in a rush or something? Silly... >_>

  • Thanx for the heads up. I will avoid this game.

  • also, what's up with the poor sfx and horrible midi remixes?

  • yikes. this port is terrible. did sonic team actually develop this??

  • why did they "try" to enhance the original? that was terrible

  • it isnt very well made on the gba, the mega drive/genisis versons were less glitchy and made more sense, plus of course the ruled.

  • Have you actually PLAYED this version? It's crap. The game is buggy beyond belief. People aren't bashing it because of the graphics. If you'd pay attention, they're bashing the game because unlike the Genesis version, IT PLAYS LIKE COMPLETE CRAP.

  • wtf is playing in the background?? that is NOT the green hill zone music that we sonic fans have come to love!! and the pitiful sound effect that happens EVERY time you break open something!! (as you can tell, i'm very picky with my music/sound effects)

dammit sega, how could you f-ck this up so badly??

  • The only Genesis-accurate thing is the "Say-guh" chant on the Sega logo, the 99% left is crap.

  • WORST PORT EVER!

  • or u can get it on moblie phone

  • Sega destroyed this great game, it apparently shows they can't even make their greatest games enjoyable anymore.

  • only because you can't do it lol loser

  • Or u can get sega genesis collection...

  • Or you can get a Sega Nomad and the cartridge of Sonic the Hedgehog.

  • they slowed the music down which suxs and the jump sounds and hitting sounds omg those can be easily fixed as you say SHAME ON YOU SEGA!!!!

  • I agree this game sux but in both versions you dont need to use that slope to break the wall. Just take a run up and roll. Simple.

  • I know, but it's nice to do it using the way I tried to do it, in that video! It's faster and more fun :)

  • woah that sucks on gba it looks sounds and runs better on my mobile/cell phone

  • Looks like a game gear game...

  • I actually think if sega had done more thinking they probably could have really closely matched the original and i know how bud this runs as i own thw game and i'm in the uk oofa

  • halo is to good for you bastards

  • I rather play Sonic on Sega Genesis Collection or Sonic Mega Collection or on the virtual console rather than this poor Sonic port. Sega should of taken their time with this game.

  • They didn't even try. They spent 100 bucks on the port and the rest of the budget on anchovy pizza

  • perhaps ita your rom??

  • Try a real copy of this game on a real GBA and you'll notice it's broken too.

  • I just thought of something else. They should've re-created the entire game, but with Sonic Advance graphics and speed. At least those games were good (except the teams in 3 were annoying).

  • It would've been better had they ported Sonics 1, 2, 3 and Knuckles onto the DS. 4 games would be worth it.

  • maybe your too innocous when it comes to games

  • I still want this game but they should have took more time. Mabye have added a bonus level at the title screen. Sega tried but failed just like they failed in the hole Dreamcast losing to the PS2. WILL SEGA FAIL ALL THE TIME?!?

  • You're, kidding right? Sega has failed PLENTY of times.

  • No, they didn't try.

  • Killing the original game in this manner means they officially killed Sonic PERIOD!

    There is no excuse...

  • No, Sega didn't even TRY. Sonic Genesis is living proof. I'm so glad I didn't waste my money on this.

  • Ports tend to suck. Just look at the PC port for Halo.

  • Look at the Xbox version of Halo, it wasn't much better than the PC version, they both sucked.

  • Yes, but the PC version was more prone to lag, which made it suck more.

  • Oh, I haven't played the pc port, I only played the Xbox version, and gawd was that awful, it was Metroid with a mustache, but Microsoft didn't know how to spell mustache, so they called it Halo.

  • How am I a fanboy? Simply for saying another game on a console other than Microsoft's is better than Halo? Halo sucked while Metroid Prime just did everything better, the levels were more fun, the enemies were smarter, no annoying grunts, the bosses were harder, and Metroid Prime was essentially one of the creepiest games on the Gamecube with it's quite music and atmosphere. SO go suck a cock fanfag, Halo sucked.

  • I don't usually compare it to Prime. Usually I compare it to Goldeneye or Perfect Dark, arguably the two best FPS games ever. Another thing is, I love the Xbox, and the 360, both great consoles, it doesn't matter if they're Japanese. And so what that I like anime, I'm not asking you to like it so shut your whore mouth. And fanfag must've offended you, or else you wouldn't have said anything about it. And if I fap to my anime that's my thing, it's better than fapping to little boys like you do.

  • honestly, i don't know what's worse.

The fact that your defending the game to that extent (not saying the game is bad, just saying you may have over-reacted), or the fact that the comment you replyed to is 2 YEARS OLD.

  • Well, maybe if you didn't think about it and stopped butting your fat fucking nose in where it doesn't belong, you wouldn't HAVE to think about which is worse, you retard.

  • guys i know a good glitch. in anaverserary mode(with spin dash)charge the spin dash and while rolling jump and DON'T press forward and you'll go so fast.when i did it i beat green hill act 1 in...29 second >:)

  • Dude, you can beat it in 24 seconds on the original version. I've beaten GH1 in 14 seconds (I've done a 15 sec vid for youtube, it's around someplace)

  • go suck a honk sonic gba. How could sega release this piece of shit?

  • What game are you talking about? It isn't STH genesis. That is for sure.

  • What game are you talking about? It isn't STH genesis. That is for sure.

  • it was never gonna be as good as the genesis version.

  • i got this game on the day you past this video.

and yes this game is NOT the best sonic game.

    puting this in my favs.

  • Do yout think it's still good?
