The Gail Harris spot is classic. Organization, teamwork, an artist's touch, fancy footwork... NOBODY can have a sense of humor in local news promos anymore, pretty much!
Congratulations VintageTelevison! This YouTube clip was featured on WGBH-TV's Beat the Press last Friday night with Liz Walker leaving (read forced) out of WBZ at the end of the year.
OMG, I had no clue Mr. Spock (what I call Chris Marrou) worked anywhere other than KENS 5! Does anyone remember if he also mixed in his inane opinions/commentary with the news on *this* station? And would anyone in Boston like him back?
@krushsister Frankly, I didn't see him much. So, it doesn't matter. Also, I see him as no help to the Boston NEWS market given what's happened with it over the years. I do regret not keeping close watch of Steve Shapiro. He brought excitement to WBZ Sports, but now he does it for WSVN Miami.
I thought I let you know they used the promo of Bruce Schwoegler On WBZAM Radio when he was on on The Steve LeVeille Broadcast: Morgan White Jr. was subhosting
You can tell these are from the old days before the ubiquitous trite co ed boy girl news teams, My favorite was Jack Hynes John Henning Bob Ryan on weather and Don Gillis on sports on channel 7
Actually, John Henning was on 4, 5 and 7. Jack Hynes was on 4 and 5. Bob Ryan weather came and split before Bob Ryan sports, and Don Gillis (like the Ryans) was Channel 5. I got to experience some of the WBZ life from '73 to 79.
Can anyone identify the Live on 4 theme music at 3:14, 4:01 and 5:12? At the time, WBZ was in between Klein's "We're 4" and Frank Gari's "The One 4 All" packages. Was this theme from one of those or simply a piece of production music?
WBZ used to be owned by Westinghouse like KPIX in San Francisco. All of Westinghouse's stations became CBS O&Os in 1995. Before they became O&Os, Westinghouse's stations had a deep connection with their communities. Now, they're just generic TV stations.
VintageTelevision is right. They parted ways since 1/2/1995. It circulated in July of 1994. WCVB 5's Anthony Everett reported the story. In fact, I'm pretty sure that story is on YouTube as I speak.
Tony Pepper and Bruce Schwoegler!!!!!

People like Jerry Liddell, Maurice Lewis, Ed Berger, David Scott, Kathryn Kiefer, Candace Hasey (Evening Magazine) and Mary Stewart were also on WBZ.

Bruce Schwoegler was one of Larry Glick's favorite names I recall. 'Count Bruce von Schwoegler' I believe.

The "Live on 4" theme is from Bruton, a British production music company that is today part of APM.
VintageTelevision 4 years ago
Do you know the name of the cut by Bruton? I have been looking for a title of the cut.
DerrickLee2006 4 years ago
Sorry ... I do not have any title information for this music cue.

Is WBZ-TV still affiliated with NBC today?

The shot of master control after the 11 p.m. newscast with the Tonight Show theme in the background is pretty cool.
("That's great, let's go to Carson...")

Thanks,
I was wondering if there would ever be a place to reminisce about stuff like this. I was born in the 1970s north of Boston.
Until Liz Walker came, I had BZ, CVB, NAC...that good stuff!
You made my day! Please, keep this stuff uploaded as long as they'll let you. This stuff is so cool!:-D
