The American guy isn't Ryan Reynolds. He was an active duty sailor stationed in South Korea who decided to do the movie while on leave. The girl with him in the movie was his real-life fiancee and she got him the part because her cousin was on the movie's casting assistants.

I really loved this movie for the fact that it didn't have the typical brainy heroes that are in most western monster movies. It's about a normal family trying to get their daughter back. It’s brutal and honest about death and not afraid to show people dying in a very horrible way.

The monster may not be the best CGI in the world but who cares its does what it set out to do scare you and creep you out with its sadistic and ilntellgent predatory behavior.

The R rating got the art house crowd in and believe me-everyone in San Francisco loved it! Can't say I had ever seen a hardcore arthouse crowd get so taken in by a monster movie before, but this guys follow up with his next film 'Mother' shows that he is quite a talent.
