you obviously don't know squat about soccer if you think america invented the term. of course, you're probably about 13 years old and get bullied at school, so i understand you need to pretend to be an internet gangster. your life is sad and pathetic.
how is that cheating? theyre owners are passionate about their team and were willing to spend money to help the MLS.....and yes americans are ruining european soccer but they are doing a ton of good for us soccer
i only call it soccer cuz its an american video....im not from the usa so....yeah....anyways, as for american football people dont just care about money, that just tells me u dont keep up with the sports....theres this feeling that all american sports only care about money, its not true at all im from england and have lived in america for a few years and that perception is just untrue...american owners spend a lot of money yes but they do it because they love their team, fans, and community
no need for all the vulgarities it just makes u look unintelligent....as for ur argument ill give u the NBA because that league is ridiculous and theyre losing their fan base daily....but as for the NFL commercials every 5 seconds? do u watch the games? and im a huge football (soccer) fan but they have more sponsors per team than american football teams (look it up if u dont believe me)....hate on americans all u want but they care about money just as much as americans do...sorry
1. superbowl- most people who watch it only see it for the commercials, 2 million dollars for 30 seconds? WTF is that. plus they only let one network broadcast it just to increase the price of ads.
2. the game is designed for commercials. thats why there are breaks every 5 seconds. In Football is see about 6 commercials max during the game that dont interrupt the game and a few more at halftime.
3. The tickets are extremely expensive and they are a monopoly with reebok
1. superbowl....SOME people watch it for the commercials, thats their choice, i dont see the problem with that....a lot more people watch it for the game too which is awesome
2. price of commercials....its just supply and demand noone forces corporations to buy commercials company's just do it because they know it will reach a wide audience....and as for the one network thing, its basic cable so everyone in USA gets to see it so i guess i just dont see the issue
3. i dont think football (soccer) fans have any room to talk about ticket prices.....i went back a few weeks ago to go see a few games and i was spending anywhere from 100 pounds at the cheapest to 300 pounds at the most expensive for premier league games....nfl games cost anywhere from $40 to $100
and btw as for commercials in NFL games, they occur after touchdowns, timeouts, and every 4th change in possession
i love football (soccer)....i really do, i just think ur being incredibly ignorant
i know too much about it as i live in the united states and i know how worthless it really is
the fans dont cheer for the teams, teams move from city to city, people treat the sport as a piece of shit
have you ever been to one of their games i havent cuz the tickets are so expensive i have been to dynamo games bc i can get tickets for 15 dollars but nfl is a ripoff
plus they only have 15 games a season and there are more channels such as abc and fox that could play the superbowl
are u telling me greenbay packers fans dont love their team? or washington redskins fans? or seattle seahawks fans? these teams 60 year waiting lists for season tickets u say u live in houston....its just a bad example, houston texans tickets are overpriced and thats the reason their franchise is failing miserably....and if uve never been to a game u really have no reason to talk about the sport ur speaking out of pure ignorance and mls tix are cheap because the quality of play is so shitty
and about the superbowl why do u care how many networks show the game? everyone can watch the game anyways so why is it an issue? the reason multiple networks show premier league games in england is because not every region gets every network....america is different in that aspect because everyone gets every game....and as for the amount of games the players are so beat up from the amount of contact 15 is really enough....the physical toll is just so large
football (soccer) has a different kind of physical toll....its all about endurance its not as taxing in terms of anaerobic injury....not to mention in soccer players are always missing games throughout the season for more minor injuries....same with rugby....rugby teams play 22 games per season, NFL plays 16 and the players literally play every single week...im not saying rugby and football (soccer) is any tougher/less tough than NFL football its just different
i think u havent seen one because its definitely 60 minutes....and really i dont trust any of ur arguments if u dont know that because u obviously havent watched a game....there are 40 people on the team, though only about 26 or so actually play in the game...like i said its a different type of fitness, while football (soccer) is more aerobic american football is more anaerobic.....i mean the physicality of the game and the speed it is played at makes the sport just as intense
while football (soccer) requires a very long time of medium to above average effort, american football requires short bursts of increidible athletic energy....its the difference between running one marathon and a bunch of 100 yard dashes, they take a different type of athlete and a different skill set, neither is better or worse they are just different
i think they're equally entertaining....i love both sports....in football (soccer) you do have to sprint while dribbling but in football you run with the ball but you have people absolutely destroying u with massive hits.....u also have people pulling at the ball while taking u down making it much harder to hold onto the ball
Actually, 80% of all the running done in soccer are short bursts of sprinting. No soccer club worth their money in the world ever goes out and just runs long distance as practice, as that kind of excersize is useless compaired to what you do when you actually play a game. Soccer is also short bursts, but granted, it's not as extreme as american football.
@riquelmehugo I don't understand why people are freaking out so much over this "gridiron vs football" argument....i love both sports, i really do, and there is seriously no tangible or intangible gain to coming on here and making a mockery of one of the two sports.....let people watch and choose, seriously, the argument is age old and really is for 14 year olds if we're being honest
Possibly. But the problem with European players coming over is MLS teams have a salary cap limit they can play their players. MLS teams can designate only ONE player to be paid over said salary cap. That is what's being done with David Beckham and Freddie Ljungberg.
I'm actually pleasantly surprised by these highlights. Whenever I've watched an MLS game I can barely stand it, because of the low skill level and lack of pace (relative to something like EPL). But this actually looks pretty good! Horrible commentating, though. :-(
yeah son! lets go sounders! seattle has always been an under rated city, yet here we are, winning, and continuing to grow more POPULAR! Looks like the party is in seattle this year baby! Get ready chivas USA, we are kickin your ass TONIGHT!
SOUNDERS ARE THE TEAM YOU CANT STOP THEM I CANT WAIT TILL THEY PLAY Chivas usa thats a good game sounders will hopefully win im in mississippi and i still love the sounders
sports illustrated had an article about the sounders... said something about the fans being just how it is in Europe... sounds like an awesome experience in Qwest field, in both types of football :)
It may be a great environment for american football (actually, I have little doubts as to that), but when it comes to soccer it falls short to other places where there is greater passion. And I'm not talking about Europe (though, admittedly, there are some good "environments" there). The continent with the most awesome soccer experiences in stadiums is South America.
I'm an Aussie from Adelaide, and you know what I think, I think that the Seattle Sounders have one of the best, if not the best lot of fan in the MLS! And for good reason, they're killing it out there! Adelaide United and Seattle Sounders shouls set up a partnership deal!
every player that comes from colombia is great, just look at montero or at Hurtado they both come from Colombia and from the same team. Or look at Juan Pablo Angel from NY Red Bulls he is also colombian and he is great.
I'm a definite soccer fan, but the MLS never really got my attention, even with chivas USA or blanco going to chicago fire i never got that full attention, but SOUNDERS!! Damn, proud sounders fan from LA right here!
i know right? and well i dont mean to underestimate other fans from other MLS teams but something about those seattle fans just seems right, and i agree with you on the beckham statement, lol yea there should be some teams that are not adidas
Nice to see an MLS team have a loud full stadium with entusastic fans like the Sounders do despite it being their first season. Lets hope the rest of the counrty takes notice.
DUDE! they will. the only people who liked soccer in my school were the soccer players, now that we have a kickass team in MLS everyone loves it. We need a team in every state! lol. That would be insane
first of all those are not football likes, those are the seams in the field, that is field turf not grass. it looks like football lines but trust me when you are there you cant even tell.
if only u knew the trtuh bro. I'm all about awesome competition. Even today I was looking online at buying a Sounders jersey. I am a fan and it is all in good fun. I just hope we all continue to show passion and support and make the MLS huge. We all deserve it as soccer/football fans.
Well, 76K employees only at Microsoft are huge soccer fans. Everytime there's a big soccer game, they usually closed some part of their cafeteria just to let employees watch the big screen. Soccers in WA state are big even b4 MLS comes. Losing Sonics are not the a big deal because it's just not a sport for Seattle.
Montero was a target well before Sigi won his title in Columbus. Hurtado was an unexpected break, he decided to come here after things didn't work out in his trial in Milan. Alonso was a guy who they knew about from playing him. Zach Scott was a sounder. Zakuani would have been picked anyways.
Sigi's a great coach but we have a great management group that in the past has found guys like Ching and Hanneman (sp?) and Galindo.
A good chunk of this team would be here Sigi or no
I'm a Brit but I'm planning to travel to the States this summer. I want to go somewhere where a team team plays good football, I'm an Arsenal fan so anything anywhere near that style of play would suit me well...any advice
RSL actually played very well, especially in the 2nd half. They just don't have talented enough strikers to beat Keller and that D. But they were dangerous. Seattle realy is the best team in the league, by far. Credit to Sigi Schmid who built this from scratch. Show's his talent. I pity my poor Galaxy when they face this green monster...Why is soccer so big in Seattle?? Dallas's home opener looked emmmmpppttyyy.
uh your an idiot if you believe that...they had a couple of signings and then Sigi signed most of the players after they went through training camps and is still adding players
Wow, I cant believe Im wasting my time arguing with an imbecile like you. Brad Evans, Tyson Wahl, James Riley, Peter Vagenas, Sebastien Le Toux, Freddie Ljungberg, Nathan Sturgis, Jarrod Smith, Stephen King, Kasey Keller, Nate Jaqua, Sanna Nyassi, and Taylor Graham were all signed before the Sounders even knew who their coach was gonna be. Nice goin numnuts, keep your mouth shut. We don't want fans in seattle who are true failures
They may have been signed before Sigi was signed, but seattle was in talks and considerations, illegally, with Sigi for a while even before the 2008 season was over. They knew they had Sigi as Columbus was unwilling to raise his salary in a new deal.
Congrats 5 of those players start...So that means less than half of the product on the field was brought in before Sigi...So therefore your comment about him not building the team is still null...when more than half of the team that actually plays were his then I would say he built that...good call though
We have a huge youth soccer system and a large portion of the population interested in the game. When Man U, Celtic, other Euro sides, as well as international friendlies have been played here, we have had constant sellouts. This team is going to show the rest of the league how to build a team, drum up public support, market it properly, and all in all do everything right.
u also have to realize that the sounders were a staple for soccer in seattles for decades in the USL before they just got bumped to the MSL. so we already have a huge fan base, and not to mention.. the fans in seattle are like no other!!
I just saw a NY Times article on the frontpage (web) about the new Sounders team and the amazing support. We can only hope it's contagious. The problem in LA, is the HDC is actually a real pain to get to. It's not central at all, but down in Orange county. Whereas the Staples Center is right downtown. Traffic to HDC and parking are a nightmare. It's a nice facility, though, but a lot of people who would like to attend, don't. There are a lot of similar venue probs for other teams, I think.
so frakkin true... thats the reason i dont want my houston dynamo to get a stadium in the burbs... lets have a nice 22k seat stadium in downtown.. were the good bars are at... nothing like getting hammerd' before and AFTER the game...lol... if we win, drink. if we lose,... drink... its a win win either way.... but a stadium out in the middle of shit... NOPE bad idea.. it ruins the entire night... OHH and yes i wish we had a "drew carey" here in houston... cuz de la hoya aint doing shit!!!

FiftyJuan51 2 years ago 3
Same here.. Just can't be a galaxy fan even with beckham/donovan.
Sounders fans seem to be great!
As for the MLS (I know this is stupid lol) but it would be a better league if all the uniforms weren't adidas!!! nike FTMFW.
aeoMontenegro 2 years ago
i know right? and well i dont mean to underestimate other fans from other MLS teams but something about those seattle fans just seems right, and i agree with you on the beckham statement, lol yea there should be some teams that are not adidas
FiftyJuan51 2 years ago
MLS never really got my attention either, not even when Beckham went to the
LA Galaxy, but then Seattle Sounders FC came in and certainly grabbed my attention! What a great club!

Nice to see an MLS team have a loud full stadium with entusastic fans like the Sounders do despite it being their first season. Lets hope the rest of the counrty takes notice.
HerculesRockefellerr 2 years ago
DUDE! they will. the only people who liked soccer in my school were the soccer players, now that we have a kickass team in MLS everyone loves it.

We all deserve it as soccer/football fans.

i wonder how they will be on the road
torontofcmusic 2 years ago

A good chunk of this team would be here Sigi or no

montero is on fucking fire!

who gives a flying fuck? Team name means shit its the product on the field that matters

I'm a Brit but I'm planning to travel to the States this summer. I want to go somewhere where a team team plays good football, I'm an Arsenal fan so anything anywhere near that style of play would suit me well...any advice
karlos3004 2 years ago
you could go to DC and watch United, Columbus Ohio for the Crew and if things hold up Seattle is looking good early in their first year as a team

take a weekend and go to Mexico for more quality football.. MLS is good competition and good pace, but the skill isnt there yet
fun though, the Home Depot Center is a good atmosphere
palomasis 2 years ago
go to LA, so cal is great, and HD center is good complex, plus you have 2 clubs to choose from, Galaxy and Chivas USA
palomasis 2 years ago
Dunno but so far, for atmosphere i'd come to Seattle brotha

I wish I could have seen this game
I live in Portland, relatively close by and you think I could at least get it on the radio but no.
Why must soccer be shunned so heavily here? It pisses me off.
Go Sounders

Isn't Portland getting an MLS expansion team? Same with Vancouver B.C, it's really nice to see soccer expanding here in the U.S.
Go SOUNDERS FC!!!

Bionicpix 2 years ago
uh sigi schmid didnt build the team. they didnt announce him as the head coach until they pretty much had most the roster built
freebiepetey 2 years ago
uh your an idiot if you believe that...they had a couple of signings and then Sigi signed most of the players after they went through training camps and is still adding players
jonesta29 2 years ago
Wow, I cant believe Im wasting my time arguing with an imbecile like you. Brad Evans, Tyson Wahl, James Riley, Peter Vagenas, Sebastien Le Toux, Freddie Ljungberg, Nathan Sturgis, Jarrod Smith, Stephen King, Kasey Keller, Nate Jaqua, Sanna Nyassi, and Taylor Graham were all signed before the Sounders even knew who their coach was gonna be. Nice goin numnuts, keep your mouth shut. We don't want fans in seattle who are true failures
freebiepetey 2 years ago
They may have been signed before Sigi was signed, but seattle was in talks and considerations, illegally, with Sigi for a while even before the 2008 season was over. They knew they had Sigi as Columbus was unwilling to raise his salary in a new deal.
Delamoks 2 years ago
Congrats 5 of those players start...So that means less than half of the product on the field was brought in before Sigi...So therefore your comment about him not building the team is still null...when more than half of the team that actually plays were his then I would say he built that...good call though
jonesta29 2 years ago
Oh, didn't know that. Then they must have great upper management.
Bionicpix 2 years ago
We have a huge youth soccer system and a large portion of the population interested in the game. When Man U, Celtic, other Euro sides, as well as international friendlies have been played here, we have had constant sellouts. This team is going to show the rest of the league how to build a team, drum up public support, market it properly, and all in all do everything right.
omarbrown22 2 years ago
u also have to realize that the sounders were a staple for soccer in seattles for decades in the USL before they just got bumped to the MSL. so we already have a huge fan base, and not to mention.. the fans in seattle are like no other!!
WestCoastKingpin 2 years ago 2
I just saw a NY Times article on the frontpage (web) about the new Sounders team and the amazing support. We can only hope it's contagious. The problem in LA, is the HDC is actually a real pain to get to. It's not central at all, but down in Orange county. Whereas the Staples Center is right downtown. Traffic to HDC and parking are a nightmare. It's a nice facility, though, but a lot of people who would like to attend, don't. There are a lot of similar venue probs for other teams, I think.
Bionicpix 2 years ago
so frakkin true... thats the reason i dont want my houston dynamo to get a stadium in the burbs... lets have a nice 22k seat stadium in downtown.. were the good bars are at... nothing like getting hammerd' before and AFTER the game...lol... if we win, drink. if we lose,... drink... its a win win either way.... but a stadium out in the middle of shit... NOPE bad idea.. it ruins the entire night... OHH and yes i wish we had a "drew carey" here in houston... cuz de la hoya aint doing shit!!!
