Thanks for posting this sound clip. I'm trying to document, preserve, and share the lyrics to various Mardi Gras Indian songs. There are only a few lyrics for these songs online. Google Cocojams Mardi Gras Indian Songs and Chants to read my attempt to transcribe this song. Sorry but it's too long to post as a comment. As you will see, that transcription isn't complete. Please help! Thanks!
@Azizip17 That's an ambitious project. I'm not sure if all the chants are even "words". If I were you, I would try to contact the Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club in New Orleans and see if they can put you in contact with some of the various tribes. I just don't think you're going to be able to write down everything just from listening. Remember, it's a chant from the heart and soul to create an atmosphere and as the chant gets more intense, it appears to become spontaneous.
@9thWardJukebox Thanks for your suggestion. I'll do that. I'm sure that it's highly unlikely that the words & vocalizations to these songs are the same each time they are sung. Significant differences probably have occurred over time and within different groups.of Mardi Gras Indians. I'm just concerned that there doesn't appear to be any online documentation of the lyrics to these songs & I think that these lyrics should be collected for present & future audiences in the USA & elsewhere.
the presence of the black and gold lomardi trophy makes 43 years of suffering blues not so so bad, uh oh, damn.
