My gosh I was 9 years old!!! Mercury Monarch, AKA the Ford Granada!! Wow AM RADIO!!! With Charlie the Lonesome Cougar atop the Lincoln / Mercury sign!!!
In case anyone didn't know, that's longtime actress Vernee Watson-Johnson at the 9:34 mark of the Hungry Jack biscuit commecial. Vernee played one of the Sweathogs (Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs) girlfriend on Welcome Back Kotter and also played on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. She's still acting and doing commericals today.
These clips are too cool! Thanks for sharing them!
I grew up in the Anderson area of SC (western Upstate), and waaaay back in the day, before we had cable, we could occasionally pick up WIS on the antenna, from some 120 miles away. Later, I went to school in Columbia from 95-99 (Go Gamecocks!), and of course WIS was a big part of my TV viewing.
and.. one other thought.. not a single wreck or fire in the bunch ... either things were a lot safer back then or news judgement was a bit different... and maybe for the better ?!?
I can't believe these airchecks still exist - WIS-TV 1975 Parts 1 & 2. I love the local commercials particularly the car spots and the Carolina Today promo with the WIS staffers.

I knew I recognized her from somewhere! Thanks, Joe for putting a name to that often-seen face.

Was the music in the first news intro Mason Williams' "Classical Gas"?
kimberlyKfnOphiEAGLE 2 years ago
Yes, but not from the beginning of the song. The news opening starts at the key change in the middle of the song.

Thanks for posting. It is a good video of WIS from 1975.
Do you have anymore newscast segments and opens from any Columbia stations including WLTX?
DerrickLee2006 3 years ago
Actually, for 1975, WLTX would have been WNOK-TV. I'd love to see some snippets from other stations if they exist.

I'm sorry I don't.
