In bushcraft and surving in the wilds there isnt a right way and a wrong way. There are lots of good ways and lots of bad. And the more you know the easier it will be for you to make good ones.

When you are out there in the wilderness fighting for your life against everything that nature throws at you, who knows which skills might come to use. Maybe you will find yourself in a situation similar to one on man vs wild and it might just save your life.

I enjoy watching all these masters of the wild and I try and learn all that I can from each one of them.

I dont get why everybody keep bashing Bear in almost every youtubeclip about bushcraft or survival. I bet that If you see a lot of the man vs wild episodes you will probably learn a couple of new things. Same thing if you watch stuff with Ray Mears, Les Stroud, David C, Cody Lundin, A-Z Bushcraft, Pathfinders and all the others out there. Instead of pissing on Bear try and learn from him and all the other experts.

@Riggelidog I agree mate how many of them have climbed everest or done all the great things Bear has done.I think Ray is the master but its a completely different show than Bears. If you watch Dual survival they are now copying some of what Bera has done eg Dave C split bamboo hammock (Bera did that 2 years ago) If people wnat to bash Bear they should get on you tube and post their own videos. I like all the shows out and you have to take the best from each show, stop being negative and enjoy

@thunderpop609 Fitness isn't a huge problem for Ray because he knows his stuff when it comes to bushcraft. Bear is fit because he's an avid climber/adventurer whereas Ray is a pure blooded bushcrafter

Imagine getting lost in the woods if you had only watched Bear Grylls.. You'd probably be puking everywhere from trying to eat something rotten and raw, nursing your broken leg after unnecessarily climbing some slippery cliff and hypothermic from jumping into a river on your quest to escape to which you'd also have no idea of. At least after watching all of Rays videos I stand a chance of starting a friction fire.. maybe even get some snares going.

ray will use a hatchet to build you a thatched hut to live in and have a feast ready when the rescuers arrive.

les will scavenge whatever trash he can find to build your shelter. The trip out will be slowed by his constant stopping, putting up a tripod and walking back over the last hill only to return and remove it again. You will get out, but be hungry.

bear will run you until dark and sleep in animal dens. You will live if he doesn't get bored and try to bungee jump off the nearest cliff.

Bear Grylls don't know his stuff, the outdoor survivalists who tell him what to do know their stuff. He's some crazy idiot they payed to do crazy stuff in the wild. Have you seen the news lately? Bear usually sleeps in motels while on location, Ray actually goes out and lives there. He does this for his proffession, Bear on the other hand goes to hawii, builds a premade raft, then sleeps in a motel (this is all true, search on google).

les stroud aka survivorman was awsome i wish discovery channel would get a new contract with him...and he actually went out there without a camera crew(so he couldnt of exepted food and/or water from the crew)so that is the main reason i like him

But Les doesn't know anything :S He doesn't eat for a week, and if he does, it's some mushroom which he doesn't know wether it's eadable or not.. Bear tries to put himself into a situation, and shows how to get out of it. It even sais at the beginning of the show, that the program does not always show real cases, and that he always has his team if something goes wrong. Les has a team comming for him if he doesn't come back within a week :P

@unoshotounokillo I guarantee he doesn't know as much as Ray. A lot of Ray's skills he has learned from the local people of the places he visits. Bear would be able to survive, but he doesn't rough it like Ray does when filming, and people only watch him cause he's fucking mental. I would rather play on a Nintendo Ray had created out of twigs and his own saliva than drink piss with Bear.

Good knots make all the difference, especially here in Brazil where we're either in a tropical downpour or up in the mountains in high wind. Waking up dry with the dawn is alot better than waking up at 3 AM in the rain.

Its a Taut-line hitch, look at it in wikipedia. Only difference is Ray adds a loop to the end to make it quick release.
