Green Day was always good.. But try going over all their albums, all their songs, and you will see that they started to evolve to a different sound ever since their first album. Starting from Nimrod maybe, they started making those simple solos. It continued until 21stCB but it was only during American Idiot when they started wearing eyeliner and uniforms. It was then at 21stCB that they exposed to MTV too much.

I like how people are arguing about Billie Joe's abilities as a lead guitarist. Billie Joe himself has said he's not a very good guitarist haha...though the old GD tunes suggest otherwise. He's a rhythm guy at heart, plays drums and stuff like that. There is nothing wrong with being a chord jockey.. I personally perfer blasting out chords rather than bending strings and flying up and down the fret board. Different strokes, different folks.
