@euanfranklin1 there is a differences between what American audiences "get" (i.e. are able to compute the jokes) and a comic SENSIBILITY, i.e. what is found to be more funny. Every culture and subculture has a comic sensibility which overlaps with, but does not match, any other culture's. From what I've heard, certain types of Semitic-language puns would not be funny to anyone in the western world, etc etc. Neither is superior. Note how many americans love the UK Office and watch BBCA
Can someone just say they both are well dome for the population that they meet I mean America sense of humor is our sense of humor brisith is brisith why the heck does everyone always have to be in critic mode just enjoy the programs or don't watch
For someone who recently got into the Office (us) and more recently got into the Office (uk), this was beautiful. I love them both and this song was an absolutely amazing tribute to both versions of one incredible show. Thank you.
@Victim5and5Villain Spot on, too much of this US version shit UK version great crap on here. The UK vesion was exclusively brilliant 12 episodes and an xmas special. The 90plus episodes of the US version have been wonderfully written, alright season 6 is not the greatest, but still has some great cringeworthy moments.P.S. a fabulous video by the way.
The US version sux so much dick compared to the original. Once again, UK make something amazing and everyone loves it, so US has to attempt to make the exact same thing but with shit humour? Get your own ideas and stop stealing shit!
Get your own ideas and stop making posts on youtube vids about The U.S. version like other people, fucktard, you're not, original. For fucks sake get a life, no one cares.
@llcontrall Well It was the UK's idea so your wrong there and no the U.S is not original hence them trying to remake the office but sadly doesnt work. Obviously this affects you and obviously you care by commenting :) so i shall continue posting as a please. There is no comparison the UK ORIGINAL!! remember that word, shits over the U.S sad attempt. Dont try and sound smart when you sound more like a dick and stop contradicting yourself :) go play now
@hlfsinger I have watched both versions of the office. yes, the US version was a remake of the UK version, and the 1st season of the US version was a rather sad attempt at a clone. But from season 2 on the US developed something unique to itself, and it became something great in its own way. And now today both critics and general audiences praise the US version of the office. Don't attack something just because it initially borrowed an idea from somewhere else. no work of art is totally original
@caffingdu I would admit that the American Office is brilliant and some of it is original. But the problem with it is that it doesn't have the same subtle humour that the British one has because Americans generally don't get that. They want something obvious rather than something clever, and they took that away in the American Office.
great job! i am a HUGE fan of the US version and have recently started watching the UK version--it's different, but still pretty funny. Ricky Jervais is soooooooooooo talented (i actually believe him)--lol
Both versions are fucking brilliant! Though i would compare them like this Brent - 10/10 (being critical) Scott - 9/10 Keenan - 10/10 Dwight - 10/10 Tim - 10/10 Jim - 8/10 Dawn - 8/10 Pam - 10/10 Ryan Howard - 9/10 Chris Finch 10/10 U.k. wins... just.
Great! Not crazy about the Us clips, but I mean you couldn't have the video without it, because the UK version didn't dumb/water down the greatness of the show to focus on a relationship like the US one. UK is far superior, but to be fair, I did start watching the Us version first and I probably would never have started watching the UK one.
I just wish there had been a clip of David when he was actually hanging out with the woman he was waving to at the end...x...that was one of my favorite scenes from The Office... it was like... there's actually hope for him lolx
Awesome! Need some of Michael and Holly, the 'Nard Dog dancing, and MORE Tim and Dawn - they're who I think of when I hear this song. Love the Office - BOTH of them (though the British verson is absolutely perfect).
The martin freeman look to camera is classic. But Jenna Fischer really takes that role of the girl that makes all us genuine guys hurt.
lol in both series he nice guy gets the girl.haha its so funny..maybe hopeful... the Nice girl 'likes' the nice guy but slags him off, calls him a pussy and gets brutally raped every week by her daddys friend boyfriend... and its accepted.!! lol
At the BBQ he insults u but u crawl back... and hey a less aggressive guy is a geek eh..
Really well put together, a great mix of some of the best scenes from both shows!!
Can we not just agree that both shows are great in their own way?
America has produced some great comedy shows such as Arrested Development, This version of the office, 30 Rock etc... But so has England with shows like the original office, Faulty Towers and Blackadder etc..
Lets just appreciate it all dudes rather than just try an diss a show because its not from your particular country or summat.
@mmdmatty im from australia, and no im not a monarchist...but the british version of the office is very will written, even more so than the american version..
youve used the birtish version of the office song, with clips from the usa version, americans could never come up with anything as creative as the office so they had to nick it..and ruin it haha
I love Arrested Development! Best show ever created, with the office (BBC) at a close second. It had the best writing and smartest jokes ever put on tv!
i recomend for anyone watching the us office to start w/ season 2. they didn't find their OWN groove till then. after that it's great, diff, but great.
i suppose it comes down to taste. you like it, i don't. I tried watching the american office, I think they only aired three eps in WA so guess it wasnt too populair. The yanks can be funny; third rock of the sun is brill. King of wueens is alright too. I think kath and kim are fantastic but then i really like AbFab. either love it or hate it!
I cant stand the USA office, they just dont grasp the sense of humour, it's too different to Pommy humour. Also tried remaking the Kath n Kim show which is very Australian and just cant be translated into an USA version The yanks are better at not-s0-funny trashystuff like Friends....!
So true. For some reason American's don't get subtlety. I tried to watch the American office and even their attempts at the naturally understated are overdone. They attempt the mundane documentary style of the original in a way that reveals once again how Americans prefer caricatures to characters. The British office has a realism to it that adds immensely to the humor. I wish so much that was more comedy made of this quality, especially by Americans.
Kath and Kim kind of sucks anyway. The concept is funny, but the writing is pretty poor. The problem is that people try to compare the american one with the british one. Just watch each for its own merits. The american one is actually quite funny if you give it a chance.
I totaly agree both versions are awesome, i started with th british version and loved it... i watched the 1st series of the american version and again thught it was great, once they get past some of the origional material and get into their own stories i think the american version is amazingly funny

probly no worse than all americans thinkin wer all toffs with bad teeth that know the queen tho is it! and im pretty sure the yankees wer named after the term yank, rather than the other way round!
I didn't go through all 95 comments but this is the first time I've actually read opinions about the UK version vs. the US version.
I've only tried to watch the US version once so I can't make a comparison.
I think the beauty of the UK version (aside from the genius of it all) is that it lasted two seasons and it was over (+ special). Fans can easily revisit it in a couple afternoons and like most episodes equally.
When an American sitcom catches on it can last a really long time.
I love the concept behind the video. My only regret is that the intermittent dialogue is difficult to hear over the song. Perhaps the levels should be adjusted so that the song gets quieter when the lines are being spoken. Otherwise fantastic.
every 'real' fan of the office know that the original version is the best by miles. why do the americans always have to copy our brilliant british shows?? all the yanks do is dilute the comedy and bastardise the dialogue
Now, I know it's probably not going to get through your thick, biased skull, but I'll try to make this point one more time. I am American, but I can appreciate both versions of the office equally. Not having been raised in British culture, it is more difficult for me to understand and appreciate the finer points of the humor in the original Office, but I still find it funny and worthwhile. -cont-
Take it as a compliment. American producers realized how brilliant the show's premise was and wanted to translate it for an American audience. While the shows started off very similar, they have gone their own ways and are now very different, and both very good. Americans can appreciate the US-oriented humor and pop-culture references while enjoying the background and comical structure that the British set up for it. The humor is not diluted -cont-
it is just less raunchy and available to a wider audience. My little siblings like the office as much as I do and they wouldn't be able to watch it if it was as adult-themed as the UK version.
This isn't a matter of better or worse. It is a matter of different. Different countries, different ideas and upbringing. You can bash us all you want for "copying" but isn't imitation the most sincere form of flattery?
yeah but why can the american tv writers, use that type of british, awkward, embarressing comedy, and convert it to a 'different' american show which is not a copy of merchant and gervais' masterpiece?
Watched it again, I can't keep away. This time I noticed that you used the audio from Dwight saying "Do you want us to run aground, woman?" WOW, a perfect line for the theme of this video. This is really wonderful, thanks so much.
How wierd is it that I think of these characters as people? And even wierder, I am more interested in the Angela/Dwight relationship and the Jan/Michael relationship than the more "important" Jim/Pam or Tim/Dawn relationships? Love is Love. Maybe I like the underdogs.
the shows are very different. Michael is sweeter and more endearing than Brent. Also, the US version is much longer which enables the writers to focus more on the supporting cast which creates storylines outside of the main four characters. U cant say one versions better because though their premises are the same, the shows are quite different. The US episode written by Gervais, "The Convict", is my favorite.
That's because the video was made before that episode. Maybe I'll have to do an updated version with all the season 3 hookups. You know Andy and his high school girl, the car crash of Jan and Michael and maybe Dwight and Angela's hot make out session that Jim walks in on.
i think that both are very very good shows. you cant really compare the two because they're so different. americans think the american version is better because it's hard to understand all of the jokes in the british one and the other way around. i have the dvds for the british version and it's really hard to understand.
I shared my DVD set of the UK Office with my brother and he was like "I don't even really understand what they're saying all the time." I'm a huge fan of UK comedy and UK culture in general, so I had no problem, but even though we're both English-speaking countries, there is a cultural gap there. In other words, I totally agree with your comment!
I am like Lren... i love both versions. I love brittish humor and 'some' American humor. It just so happens that the USA Office is my brand of American humor. I shamefully admit that I have to watch my UK Office DVDs on subtitles... Im a yankee than cant understand everything my Brit friends say.
Absolutely loved this video! Especially like the fact you had clips from both the original TV series and the American one too. If I could make one criticism, it would be that it would be nice if you had a few shots of the lady David hooks up with in the finale, but other than that, it's fantastic!
Its not gay.

Instead of arguing over which is better I will give my thoughts on both shows(I'm American by the way).
American Version: An excellent American sitcom. Probably the best in sometime(not that that is saying much). Its well acted and well written.
British Version: Probably the most unique thing I've ever watched. It follows no sitcom norms and that is its allure.
I give the nod to the UK version, but I do enjoy the American version as an American sitcom.

UK version is best, the us one is just a simple copy
UlvYngling 4 years ago 2
See Ive gotta argue that. The US uses the same characters and everything, but does actually add something of it's own to it.

America is often copying from elsewhere and declaring itself the inventor. But it is appreciated when they copy something good well.

OH, and BTW, this vid is incredible, I failed to say that!

The song is perfect. So preposterous.

the shows are very different.

You know Andy and his high school girl, the car crash of Jan and Michael and maybe Dwight and Angela's hot make out session that Jim walks in on.
absnow54 4 years ago
No no! You have to keep it the way it is. Season Three can't even measure up to this!
janekimmsdfl 4 years ago
i think that both are very very good shows. you cant really compare the two because they're so different. americans think the american version is better because it's hard to understand all of the jokes in the british one and the other way around. i have the dvds for the british version and it's really hard to understand.

I love both versions of the Office! I'm glad other people besides me enjoy both and are not fighting over which is better!
harmonicmelody182 4 years ago 2
Absolutely loved this video! Especially like the fact you had clips from both the original TV series and the American one too. If I could make one criticism, it would be that it would be nice if you had a few shots of the lady David hooks up with in the finale, but other than that, it's fantastic!
