  • what's the radiation dose from a procedure like this in mgy?

  • I hat a left vertibral artery dissection and anuerysm coiling done in 2007. I was awake the whole time. It went smoothly except when they sent me back to the ICU and the pain meds wore off. I felt like I got shot in the head. Probably some swelling issue. I was fine afterwards but when my BP gets too high I do expeirence numbness on the left side of my face/body. I just need to be careful about pressure build up in my head. I had many MRIs over the years to make sure things were fine.

  • i have had this done just 2 months ago and still carnt put peaces back together i am still not allowed to drive yet but i had a lot of coiling done and i just hope i get better soon

  • hi i had the coiling done approx 2 weeks ago. just wondering if you have double vision as well?

  • Most aneurysm could be embolized with coils. But occasionally, more advance techniques like remodeling (with balloon) or stenting are required for safety. It seem your girl need any procedure to secure the aneurysm from rebleeding. God bless you

  • My fiance has an aneurism, fluxuates from 10mm-13mm, so I guess it is relatively small, but causing her great head pain as she recovers from neurological damage in her temporal lobe. Six months into the recovery from the hemorrhage and swelling this aneurism has burst twice now and is very painful.....doctor's aren't certain about coil embolism possibilities....thoughts?

  • i am 34 and i have a mca fusiform aneurysm and one doc told me he would moniture it and this dr thomas grobelney told me about this and he wants to do it soon. the other doc wanted to open my head up and do a bypass. well its not the mca its a branch off the mca.?has anyone ever had an artery block off by it coiled shut which redirects the flow?

  • I have had this procedure in 2005, they managed to get 32 coils in it in two sittings !! oh and a stent what ever that was.

  • i had this done in 08. it caused a stroke and my discharge from the military. i was just 22.

  • I had this procedure in okt. 2010 and it took only 30 min..

    Jan

    Denmark..

  • when u say 30 mins, i'm assuming it was angiogram. i had the angiogram done on 23rd august and the endovascular coiling to fix a leakage on 26th august. how are u recovering? any post operation side effects?

  • I'm confused, I had this procedure after an SAH secondary to a berry aneurysm on my left carotid artery when I was 11 but I was unconscious and it took 7 hours. The procedure show appears to have taken 5 minutes..?? Huh

  • i was asking how come that material has the property to bend so. in that way.

The question was not very well put i am sorry. perhaps it i snot very intelligent either.

I would like to know how did they arrive to such a wire wich coils and bend by itself

  • My mother just had this procedure done. The coil is composed of a metal (titanium I believe) and when coiled into the cavity, the body has a immune system response to the metal that makes it clot fast and well. Apparently, one must have a certain layout/ structure to qualify for coiling, otherwise the other option is the clipping. We are very happy that she was a candidate for coiling; it was a success and the doctors believe she will make a 100% recovery.

  • I am 52 and live here in Japan a filipino and a single mom. I had my MRI last August and they found 3mm size aneurysm. Is there medication to treat my aneurysm? I'm so scared to go on operation.

  • according to the docs, there isn't any medication to treat aneurysm. i had the endovascular coiling done 2 weeks ago to fix the leakage. please don't get too worried abt the operation as full anesthetics will be given. please email me at jamiefarm@gmail.com if u need more info.

  • Going to check if my aneurysm is good for coiling.

  • Going for an angiogram end of month. Have had before - but I was unconscious so didn't know. Nervous as helk about this one because they don't knock me out completely. And they send me home right after - I'm worried about my leg bleeding......... I guess insurance doesn't want to pay for a bed for you to rest the 8 - 12 hours after!! >;( ~~~Lorna~~~

  • how and why the wire coils?

  • @klett69 They fill the aneurysm with coils of wires so blood cannot get into it and cause a rupture ~ so I'm told. ~~~~Lorna~~~

  • I just had my 5th year angiogram check-up and all is reportedly well! Mine was 9mm and didn't rupture or leak. The Doctors and staff were great! Highly recommended procedure instead of opening the head.

  • hi i had this done in 2004 ,and all is ok now ,thanku ,xx

  • I just had this done last week on Wednesday April 28th, it is such a wonderful procedure because they don't have to cut your head open. My aneurysm was on my left carotid artery and was not ruptured thank God. They went through the femoral artery on the left side of my groin. I was only in the hospital overnight and was able to go home the next day. I recommend getting this done for anyone who has an aneurysm.

  • @ilovemybooboo4life I had to lay still for 8 hours after I had surgery and they used an Angio-seal to close the artery. They placed 2 coils in the aneurysm.

  • I am only 21 years old...the doctors said that I am very young for having an aneurysm and they also found that i do not have the main vein on the left side of my brain that pumps blood back down to the heart, I only have one on the right side and that vein is narrowing. I am happy that the aneurysm was able to be taken care of without rupturing but I am ultimately scared about the other stuff going on because the doctors said they have never seen before, this could possibly be a birth defect.

  • @ilovemybooboo4life I mean they went through the right side of my groin...not the left...

  • compass complex ?

  • My Dad had this done a few months ago after his aneurysm ruptured (luckily my mom heard him hit his head on the shower door). He was sent home about a week & a half later.

A checkup a few days ago showed he needed another coil. He was sent home the next day.

If you can get this operation before your aneurysm ruptures, do it!

  • Today, my brother 28, left hospital for home! After a strong headache, like a thunder, he collapsed..and the emergency angiography show an ruptured aneurysm.

Doctors coiled the aneurysm and after 13 days in ICU and 8 in the room, my brother ,without complications and no mental or physical deficits, today is back to our family..

I have to thank his doctors and all the stuff who saved his life.. Thank you all!

  • I am 34 and having this done next week. I am scared.

  • @lemonfishy :c'mon lemon read all these positive stories...everything will go fine, you'll see! good luck guy!

  • Just had this done on one ruptured aneurysm. They couldn't find any other aneurysms. Four coils were placed. I survived with no mental or physical deficits. My prognosis was not good before the procedure. I spent a month in intensive care due to seizures from the bleed. Now doing very well. I'm pretty much back to normal activity except for the restrictions given to me. This happened 11/16/09. I collapsed in front of my kids. No real warning signs.

  • Had one done over 2 years ago at Cleveland Clinic, no after affects or restrictions. Actually hardly ever think about it.

  • I just found out I have two aneurysms on the right side of my brain. The doctor mentioned this procedure. I'll know for sure next week, what's next. I am so freaking scared!

  • Much better to find out about thae threat than to have the haemorrhage. The procedure is pretty well estabished. good luck, bibi3174.

  • The procedure is painless, had to lay still for about 6 or 7 hours because of the artery in the groin that they used for insertion. Went back for a checkup after 15 months and they used a "star clamp" and sent me home after a hour or two.

  • @bibi31074 it's normal to be a bit scared but trust your doctor and have faith it will be okay!

  • had an aneurysm coiled in jan 09. 16 coils. no ill effects since. life is great!!

  • Brain chip - CHECK MY SITE.

  • I am 54, on 05/02/08 I had the microcoil performed to deposit 7 platinum pins in the sac. My only symptom was passing out was when it leaked. Neurologist said over 5cc leaked. I was in ICU for 12 days, total 18 days at the hospital due to the heatwave here. Went back to work 2 weeks later. On 08/01/08 i was released to full activity. No headaches, no deficits! Since August I've been doing strength/endurance training at the gym 5x a week. Living life! I may have an angio next month.

  • I hope your angio showed good result and that you're doing good now. when are you next due to have another one?

  • Was fascinated watching this! Thanks for posting it. I had endovascular coiling after SAH from ruptured right posterior communicating artery...and have a ruptured unrepaired aneurysm that is now an atrophic segment(A1 vessel left anterior cerebal artery) and 2 other aneurysms! Lost my mum to SAH in 1990! I am building a website and wondered if you would allow me to post two of your videos on it? I want to show coiling and craniotomy surgery. Many thanks.

  • My father is 58 years old. He had an aneurysm in his brain. He had a surgery in QEII in Halifax, Canada. The doctors used this technique in the procedure. Complication happened, as the doctor put the last coil in, it fly away, they could not get the coil out or in. As a result, it blocked one of the arteries. The procedure went for 9 hours and my dad had a stroke. Now he is having trouble with speech and understanding. Please advise if this case qualify as a medical mistake.

  • My father

  • My father (60 years) had this operation done on Nov 2006 at Sri Chitra Institute, Kerala, India. He is doing fine now.. Happy to see this video here.

  • I'm really glad I found this video. I had the same problem. a RUPTURED BRAIN ANEURYSM on 4/3/02. this same procedure was used. I am doing fine now.

  • i also had the same operation 2003. . i still have yearly MRI scans. . just wondering if you have follow up scans still. . ps glad your doing fine now and take care.

  • Anyone who gets coiled needs annual MRI for the rest of their life... nearly 7 times more likely to recur after coiling than after clipping.

  • thanx 4 replying skinboy8.. . kind regards... dgjlo..

  • "nearly 7 times more likely to recur after coiling than after clipping" Where did you get this information?? My understanding is that coiling if possible would be more preferable, due to it being less invasive and clipping is a last resort.

  • Never mind I googled it, I'm not sure that 7 times would be correct as a blanket statement though, and I don't think that would keep me from opting for Coiling as opposed to clipping. I guess it would depend on location.

  • this is cool great for my science project
