  • I love this documentary, & the intros & trailers for every film on the nasties list was an awesome addition to the 3 disc boxset - it truly is a definitive guide. Martin Barker fucking owned in this doc, btw.

  • @ardbastard1 It is, but I was extremely angry watching it due to the blinkered opinions of the politicians and especially that fascist, John Beyer

  • the original last house on the left is crud

  • This is a GREAT video

  • haha Mark cracks me up at 0:07

  • There's that jacket again... I was hoping it was a one-off.

I'm going to write a screenplay starring Mark Kermode's coat. It's going to be called Mark Kermode's Coat.

  • @tascott59 I'd love to see John Beyer or someone from Mediawatch at one of those events to see how the people took their pro-censorship stance (then watch them attempt to make it out alive)!

  • It's already happened again with the passing of Section 63 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008 outlawing extreme pornographic images. Which started out aimed at sadistic and violent hardcore porn like Max Hardcore etc but now means anything uncertified by the BBFC. Theoretically you get up 3 years for possessing The New York Ripper or Murder Set pieces and the like. Free country my arse.

  • @tommydee1978 I was going to say the same thing, but I saw you'd already commented.

The DPA was most certainly pushed through under false pretences using fallacious arguments and bogus research!

  • @tommydee1978 yeah but who gives a shit about the government anyway. We've got endless streaming websites to choose from now, where we can watch whatever we like, whenever we like. This makes the video rexcordings act pretty irrelevant.

  • @diamondsareforeveist I think you'd give a shit if you got sent down.

  • ditto this country's drug laws.

  • @1fizzychicken 100% true people are idiots and will try it because it's taboo a brilliant example is the fact that when you're at secondary school you knew the kids smoking at age 13 would end up being drug users/dealers if cannabis is made legal it wouldnt be a problem.

drugs like cocaine heroin etc should be illegal as they are addictive I have tried cannabis and my honest reaction was "alcohols cheaper and legal and easier to get a hold of"

  • dude your obsessed with the freaking video nasties

  • To answer Mark... I don't care about Cannibal Holocaust in fact i loathe and dispise it, i think it's one of the few films that should be banned and destroyed today... why because of the real murder of two living creatures all because they couldn't find another way to do the effect... well they shouldn't of done it!!

  • @kwisnothere Kermode made it clear, whatever you think of the movie isn't the point, the topic is censorship.

  • @kwisnothere gay ass vegematarian

  • @talam123 Really?? is not thinking living creatures should be killed to make a film, for entertainment, a sign of homosexuality... maybe your right... maybe you've outed me... you can go back to wanking over cannibal holocaust now can't you...

  • @kwisnothere you know Apocalypse Now has a live bull being beheaded and Friday the 13th has a live snake being cut in 2 with a machete don't you? Whilst not excusing the killings in Cannibal Holocaust, do you feel these films should be banned too?

    Just a thought!

  • @DarkAngel182 Well firstly I wasn't aware of the snake in Friday the 13th, it's not a film i'm overly interested in seeing, and as for Apocalypse Now I believe that it was part of a real ritual that some real tribe was going to perform anyway - while that's hard to see, it's still a little more acceptable than a bunch of wacked out italians running through the jungle abusing everything human and animal in their path.

  • @kwisnothere LOL, well I'll agree with that last sentence anyway!

    :-)

  • having just watched "trash humpers", the 'tracking' text at the start made me feel a little funny, like how I imagine it would feel bumping into someone who had abused you as a child at the fish counter of your local supermarket.

  • Sorry Mark but that pompadour will never scare me

  • why can't we have a Kermode review of Buried in the rest of the World. BBC sucks.

  • @skinwalkerxxx I know. Damn racists!

  • He's obsessed with these things.

  • I wonder what sets this apart from "Ban the Sadist Videos" ; an excellent, two-part doc that was included on Anchor Bay's "Box of the Banned" set from around 2005. I thought it was pretty definitive, but it didn't include recent interviews of Graham Bright (he declined to be interviewed). It would be interesting to hear him reflect on the whole situation, and maybe explain what was rattling in his head at the time ; I mean WTF! DOGS, MAN!!!

  • The video nasties legislation pattern has already repeated itself with the section of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 covering depictions of children in comic books and the section of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008 covering "extreme pornographic images". Both acts outlaw fictional representations based on the unsupported premise that they corrupt adult minds.

  • Mark's going on about the video nasties part 5,607

he must have said the first minute of this vid 60 times this year.

  • @TheUltimoLee

    Yeah your right there lol.

I never get bored of this subject though.

  • I don't care about horror films, but I love horror games. It will be interesting to see.

  • Does anyone know what that font is called that the documentary is using for its captions? Bond films have used it. I love it. It'd be great to download it.

  • I went to school with Graham Bright's son!

  • Anyone else thinking 'video games'?

  • @MeisterFalti Yes, totally. Kermode actually did a vlog that was about the No Russian level in MW2. He said that even though he didn't have the slightest idea of video games, MW2 or any other, that he supported it because it reminded him of the Video Nasties Era in the 80s.

But yeah, I'm in total support of Video Games. I see them, not as an art form altogether right now, but in a decade or two times I think that they will indefinite become a recognised art form and medium.

  • LOL i thought it was niko bellic for a minute

  • see my video nasties review!

  • Martin Barker was my old film tutor! Absurdly sprightly for a man of his age- could run rings around me!

  • How can this documentray be viewed? Is it on TV? DVD? I'd like to see it but have no idea how!

    -RALPH

  • @stardub its out on dvd on oct 18th

  • @ScottishGeordie39 Cheers.

  • @stardub I had the same question. Found this online "Coming October 11 to DVD in a three-disc boxset is Video Nasties: The Definitive Guide, which features Video Nasties: Moral Panic, Censorship & Videotape."

  • The docco is excellent. I'm currently working through the nasties as part of a critical review series, there are quite a few surprises there so far.

I have to say that quote from Bright gets funnier every time I hear it.

  • Looks great. There is a guy on youtube, whose name escapes me at this time, who does some brilliant reviews of all the video nasties. I still have Evil Dead, Cannibal Apocalypse and Cannibal Holocast and VHS tape but I have no video player. Meh!

  • @wasteyelo1 Dunno if you are thinking of Lampyman101 but if it isn't then I strongly recommend that you go and check out his channel

  • @wasteyelo1 The Cinema Snob, is the name of the reviewer of the name who escapes you

  • driller killer and others like it are available in the pound shops range of dvd's if people are looking to pick some up cheap
