i tried watching his standup specials like a year ago, but they're just awful. maybe british comedy doesn't translate all the time, but all his jokes are some mundane setup of an idea, then him doing a high energy impression of whatever he was talking about, but just repeating the setup. I'll never forget he did a joke about people putting food back in the wrong place in grocery stores, and the punchline was a wacky face, lisp, and "I'm fish paste. I'm with the bread. I don't belong here!"
@ccfcobro Really? I think i remember him saying "fuck" every eight seconds. In America, he would kind of be considered dirty with his delivery, but the content is just asinine. I guess that shows how warped the comedic sensibilities of dumb cunt Americans are. They usually require more than wacky faces to genuinely laugh, but if the person said "i dropped the fucking fish paste," they would be fired from whatever job they had and have to apologize
@nickypeeps He's pretty much the British Robin Williams ergo he sucks gigantic wet black cocks. If you're looking for good British comics try Stewart Lee or Daniel Kitson, everyone else is pretty horrific imo, mainstream British stand up is in a real sorry state at the moment, we're awaiting our very own Louis CK.
@hippotoast well, you do have Ricky Gervais. his stand up is relatively comparable to the type of shit Louis tries to do. But I've seen Louis live two times, and i almost passed out from laughing so hard at both shows. Ricky's never done that for me, but i've never seen him live, and it could vaguely be the cultural barrier
@nickypeeps Ricky Gervais had two pretty mediocre shows at the beginning of his career but now hes probably one of the worst mainstream stand ups around today. Reason being that he's said on several occasions that he doesn't like watching stand up and that he doesn't take inspiration from modern comedians, so his work became quickly stale and hacky as a result. I don't think it's a cultural barrier, I really like Stewart Lee but I've never laughed at a stand up more than I have Louis.
Ahwww, Mr.Evans is nervous! .. Alot of what he's saying is used as stand up material.
