Ok, so within 5 mins, not 6 but 5 mins, I have got a dozen folks telling me i"m full of shit....next weekend I will take a video of the same license plate and the car in the garage. Will post. 6 days and counting. STFU. It's my pop's car. And has more NOS than in this vid. Fuck the haters.
The '71 Skyline had 160 hp from the S20 2L twincam six, and 250hp in race form - it would've made a good race back in the day, very nice Stang by the way! The '71-'73 were my favourites since the original Gone in 60 seconds movie
With alittle more compression(12-1 or better),alittle more camshaft then stock and headers this car was deadly on the steet in its day. I won alot of $ in the day street racing against big block chevys. stock heads with alittle port clean up would pull right to 7000 rpm with those big valves and ports.. Nice car...
No the BOSS 351 was not a Hemi , but it did have canted valves , it was rated at 33o brake HP@ 5400 RPM , 370 lbs-ft torque @ 4000 RPM. The BOSS 351 had forged Aluminum alloy pistons, balanced crankshaft , 4 bolt main bearings caps,HD magnafluxed & shot peened connecting rods , high lift cam, & solid machanical lifters .
One comment I need to make since someone mentioned abiut the carburetor. The original carburetor is an Autolite 4300D which was only used on the 1806 Boss 351s. I have one of these carbs in mint condition, however I run a 780 cfm vacuum secondary Holley with Proform main body for better performance. I previously used a 750 cfm double pumper, but the car likes the 780 cfm vacuum secondary better.
AH! finally someone stands some ground. 1 discrepancy I'm aware of is production #'s 1805-1806. At least that was an issue when I worked at Mstngs Unl. Some auto's were installed "at the dealership" only, Never the factory. Also the rear spoilers were faced opposite of Mach's. Rear valance no cut-out's. solid lifter, etc, etc., only thing close to the boss was the even rarer, under 400 produced, '72 351 R-code H.O. I bet everyone had one of them too. I suppose everyone means well though.
If some Boss cars got Automatics at the dealership, what did Ford use for a torque converter to work with the solid lifter longer duration cam and be streetable? How about a trans cooler for the higher converter temp? I have owned my B351 for 30 years now and am the 2nd owner. My car never had the exhaust tip cutout vallance either. later outersun
Not sure what torque conv. were installed, I'm sure some stall, which wouldn't be that difficult since other manufacturers were capable of doing so. The (2) I've seen did have trans coolers however. Both were certifiably dealer installed auto's with one having the clutch pedal still hanging. Back in '83 I met a guy in Maryland who "claims" his was "factory" installed with 4.30 detroit locker and he had documents to prove. I too have owned a 351 boss but sold out and went mopar. Cheer's to you.
you seem like you know allot about these old 351s. What is the difference between cleveland and windsor? How many variants of these are around? How does this compare to 302 is it the same block? What is needed to get this kinda rpms and power out of a 70's windsor engine out of a bronco?
Is there no one out there that knows what a Boss 351 is? ONLY the BOSS 351 received the BOSS 351 engine! NO Mach 1 or other Mustang, understand? There were only 1806 cars made but the way people talk like everyone had one. They did NOT come from the factory with a Holley carb, but a 750cfm Autolite. All were 4 speeds. I can't believe after all these years, people are still clueless.
Had a 71 Mach1 myself. I love how nice this one looks and sounds.
somebody yanked the 351 Boss before I got it for a stock car. They left the C6 tranny and I dropped a 69 351 Windsor that had factory 10 1/2 to 1 pistons. Not as bad as a Boss but it ran great and still burned the tires anytime and anywhere.
This horsepower is made naturally aspirated with no power adders and through a restrictive 2.25 inch diameter exhaust and factory mufflers. This setup seriously hampers power with this cam. Headers into a 2.5 inch exhaust with Flowmasters or similar is worth another 50 horsepower for sure. Add a some tuning and 500 horsepower is within reach. I ran this car against a Kawasaki Ninja and gave him the run of his life. 3.91 gear, factory Hurst shifter, wide ratio toploader transmission & 750 Holley.
I have owned my Boss for 30 years now and am the second owner, Mine was originally light pewter metallic like yours. I bet you get all sorts of flakes calling it a Mach i. The 351 was the king of the Bosses for sure. I have put over 100k miles on it since i bought it and still plan on driving and enjoying it like you are, Bravo! Make sure you keep all Boss specific parts cuz they are rare.
Thanks, boss351dude ! Glad that there are others out there that appreciate these cars. This car is basically a nuts-and-bolts restoration, with some internal engine mods. Externally, I only changed the carb from the Autolite 4300D (safely stored away) to the 750 Holley Double Pumper using a factory Ford over the counter Holley flange intake manifold. This manifold looks identical to the stock Boss manifold but in the part number suffix. The Holley carb really woke up this engine combination.
I'm the owner of this car and it now makes 425 horsepower at 6800 rpm. Revs easily to 7500 rpm and I've shifted frequently at 7200 rpm. I run CAM2 110 ocatane leaded racing fuel. As for a boat anchor engine, the 351 Cleaveland in Boss form was one of the most powerful small block made before 1990 or so. It have HUGE ports and the 1971 Boss 351 was the fastetst Boss out od the factory, even faster than the Boss 429. How about 351 cubes revving to 7500 rpm you Honda guys !
I had a 1970 Mach 1 with a 351 Cleveland 4 Barrel back in the 1970's. Only mod was full length Crager Hot Pipe headers. I always wanted to drop a Boss 351 engine into my 70. How much lighter was the 1970 Mach1 Cleveland then your 1971 Boss 351?

There are no good american made v8 engines, because they cant develope any horsepower, besides that nobody can afford to put gasoline in them since your President Bush caused a world wide oil crises. I bet George Bush drives one of those gas hog mustangs though. He doesnt have to worry about going fast or paying for gasoline like the rest of the world.
12 to 1 compression. if u dont want misfiring or detonation/ pre ignition you gotta run it on premium. i mean you can have fun in other cars but nothing compares to a big throbbin rediculously loud torquey badass v8
I think he meant pump gas or race gas. If this is an all aluminum engine, pump gas is a possibility, though I've heard people say they've run 12:1 on an all iron engine (block and heads), they just used a big cam. I'd be interested to know which one he runs myself....
@crezzyman my bro's hi-po 351c has super high compression, solid roller cam, etc., etc... it will run on 93, but detonates and generally runs like poo. It really loves 114 octane.. runs like a dream on that stuff.
And...guys that drive Honda Civis are the "Gangsta's" of the Universe? 1 question...How does a fart can + Wing (For a FWD car none the less) make your car go faster?
My question is how high does your civic and your S2000 rev? I think the S2000 revs to over 8,000 RPM. So how does that work on the street? You have no low power, so you can't smoke the tires from a stop, and you can't get into the fun without winding that little engine up sky high. So, it's more prone to breakage too. So why is this better than an American V8?
better mileage. fun to dog the living fuck out of it till it blows. and they need the extra 3000rpm just to keep up with american cars. if they raced and shifted at 62 or 65 like some muscle does theyd be fucked. america. FUCK YEA
What the fuck is a mary like you commenting on this video. This car was made in 1971. I laugh at what passed for performance in Japan in 1971, when Skylines had a bone-chilling 89 horsepower. Sad that this 37 year old, SUV-sized car with a "boat anchor" engine can still crush a 2007 Civic Si in the quarter mile. In 37 years, no one is even going to remember what a Civic was because they'll all have been sent to the scrapheap and melted into sets of plastic spoons.

Oldmusher and Maydude, There are quite a few Japanese production cars that put out 100 horsepower per liter WITHOUT a supercharger or turbo...the Celica GTS, Corolla XRS, Matrix XRS, Civic Si, and the Honda S2000 even surpasses that level. Uh Maydude, I was never referring to a 4 cylinder engine in a Ford junk and its 90 horsepower output. You girls need to stop living in the past and get with technology. Stop reading your communist hotrod magazines.
JAJAJAJA what an idiot... its not only bout the horses, its more about the torque, this boat anchor as you call it can beat the hell out of those japanese cars that sound like my girlfriends hair dryer
u need to fuckin grow a set a balls and learn not to say to us " commy' americans. will kick jap shit off the road. and hp per litre is fuckin stupid. especially when u have only 1.6 or 1.8 litres u new age pos car driven nigger
Its something called efficiency. I doubt you've heard of the word. I LOVE my muscle, but you cant down on good engineering. To say you cant have good fun on a track in something like a 2L s2000 is just ignorant. When i see a V8 put less than 200 horses down, thats just sorry.

Bryan351, I was around when those boat anchors were new. I wouldnt pull your lil' pecker. For having 5.8 liters, that engine should be putting out 100 horse per liter like the Japanese cars, (naturally aspirated and stock)...hence the nickname "boat anchors"!
The only Jap cars that put out 100 hp per "liter" are Turbo/or/supercharged. The Ford GT is supercharged. Now read a list of Jap cars that can stay with that? Short list, huh. John Force's "mustang" has 500 cubic inches (I'm not French) and 8500 hp. With pushrods and 2 valves per cyl. What Jap car competes with that? Sounds like you've been pulling someone's "lil pecker".
Uhh, Georgenfla, there is a bid difference between a 4 cylinder putting out 90 horsepower and ANY engine putting out 500... Lets try to be a little more realistic.
Dude, there's no such thing as a "351 big block." All 351's are considered small blocks. There are 3 types, the 351-Cleveland, 351-Windsor, and 351-M (which most people call the 351-Modified). All 3 have different blocks and heads. The Boss 351 is a 351-Cleveland with 4-barrel heads, forged pistons, aluminum intake, mechanical cam, and a Holley carb, all factory.
Get some engine books and car magazines and read. That's the best way to learn this shit.
That car is huge, it looks like an SUV. Whats up with the washing machine drum where the fuel injection runners should be? What a hunk of crap! Trade that thing in on something new and fast like a Honda Civic Si or a used Supra turbo.
yea im not one to start stuff on the internet usually but im a huge ford fan and i love classic mustangs and unless your kidding i dont know why your even commenting this vid...sorry we all dont drive Rice Burner piles of garbage
Georgenfla, if you were 18 I would believe that you're serious, but since you're 49, I know that you're just pulling our dicks to get a rise out of us. Get a hobby.
What a beautiful car. My friend's dad has a Boss 351, but it has the metallic green paint. Hopefully I'll be able to buy it someday if I get some money!

There are only 3 different 351s, and they are all considered boat anchors.

VERY nice, i have a 351bigblock and would love to convert it to a boss... whats the difference besides obvious horsepower?

Georgenfla, if you were 18 I would believe that you're serious, but since you're 49, I know that you're just pulling our dicks to get a rise out of us. Get a hobby.

lol, you cant smoke a joint and listen to classic rock in a japanese machine.

Sounds very healthy. It would be nice to hear the engine reved up and maybe see it run on the street.
marsmustang 4 years ago
So what quarter mile times does it run?
heysexy18 4 years ago

Hey guys, many thanks for the kind words! I love '72s and '73s, too. Love the big mustangs (drove a '71 coupe in HS 20 years ago). since then, the B1 was/is at the top of my want list.
