Any moron who doesn't live in Australia and think they are getting a native species think again it's ILLEGAL and a business the government takes very seriously
@bastardfingers Youre the one who has to learn, rock wallabies as a group are becoming increasingly rarer in the wild due to competition from sheep, goats rabbits and other introduced placentals. Every specimen is an important tool for their longterm conservation, anyone selfish enough to keep them for themselves should be stopped.
There was a thing in the paper here in Australia about the US government arresting owners in the states as it's illegal under Commonwealth Law in Australia that unless your a zoo you cannot have one and exports are banned (so owning one breaks UK laws as well), at least I imagine its the same in the UK.
They are not pets as they have complicated dietry requirements and are extremely suceptible to diseases from other domistic pets, not to mention climate issues.
@gnarkillkicksass this is a nevada law --set forth in NEV. ADMIN. CODE ch. 503, §110 are prohibited from private ownership except if the animal was in possession prior to February 28, 1994. Examples of animals listed under §110 are the following: alligators, crocodiles, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, etc. However, other exotic animals may be possessed without a permit or license. Examples of these exotic animals are: monkeys and other Primates, MARSUPIALS, elephants, felines, wolves, etc.
@oreowithmilk1 I'd suggest you check the latest trade agreements between Australia and USA - it is a federal offence in both countries to own a banned eddxport of another. In Australia it is illegal for any Kangaroo to be exported (breeders commonly own illegally exported animals). Nevada Law is irrelevent considering the treaties between Commonwealth of Australia Law and United States Federal Law.
@gnarkillkicksass state laws overpower federal ones. and EXPORTED is shipping from country to the next. theres wallaby BREEDERS in the us. so yes i can have one legally.
@oreowithmilk1 Well if you think so fine. I am just telling you there has been news all over here of breeders and owners (even if it was bred there it is still prohibited) being charged and the animals destroyed. It is part of a sweep in both countries - owners of bald eagles, coyotes etc in Australia have the same issue. I also hope your wallaby is in the proper climate.
@gnarkillkicksass i live in las vegas, which is a hot climate(gets up to 120 degrees here) and i own 2 acres of land out here and he lives on 1 acre(other acre fenced off) which is connected to my house so he can come in and out as he pleases if he wants to be in the A/C but hes usually outside. but yah i take really good care of him. my brother in law is a lawyer and he comes over to play with him all the time. i asked him and he says theres nothing wrong with owning one in nevada..
@oreowithmilk1 -I live in vegas also. I am doing research on getting a new baby wallaby. Is it possible to get some info?. I live north side. Please email me rrohio1@yahoo.com if you can help. Just need ideas. Thanks Rob
