@JENDALL714 Golly I wish that was true, but that was the New York actor with a flawless southern accent, Clifton James. Mr. James is about twenty years younger than Edgar Buchanan and is actually still alive where our beloved Uncle Joe passed away in 1979. You may remember the sheriff in "LIVE AND LET DIE" and "THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN" was also portrayed by Mr. James and that was why he was cast in "SUPERMAN II." Edgar Buchanan's last role was Bill the cafe owner in "BENJI" in 1974.
And Earl Scruggs....on their hit record, not on the television version that is posted here. Thanks for your kind help in clarifying that for everyone.
It's history from at least *gulp* 45 years ago that is not so prevalent that it is known or remembered correctly by all. So yes, Eddie Arnold sang in a somewhat similar manner. But you know, so did Rufe Davis who appeared in over 100 episodes and sang in at least a dozen.
@beefycajun It's not Eddy. It's actually Curt Massey, the theme songs composer. A lot of people think that it's Mike Minor who played Steve Elliott, and while it DOES sound a lot like Mike, or even like Eddy, it's really Curt, who also did much of the background music for the series. Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs recorded a coverversion of the theme song on one of their albums.
Procter & Gamble originally sponsored the series during its first four seasons (1963-'67), dropping it to sponsor "GOOD MORNING, WORLD" in the same Tuesday night time period [9:30pm(et)] in the fall of 1967.
Benederet died from lung cancer in October 1968. Apparantly, she had been a smoker for many years.

Thank you so much. I'd pay big bucks to watch a season of episodes with sponsor spots and cast ads intact.
