Don Geronimo and Derek McGinty...two of DC's best. I lived near the Fairfax, Va studio and could roll by and see Robbay duct taped to a street sign or stop in and give Don some CD's in the lobby. I also shot video/stills at events. Always gracious and very different from his on-air persona, Don is human and his "love is a river that runs soul deep." His Freda show broke our hearts, too. Much peace and joy, Don
DON has his own radio show on khtk 1140 sacramento. THANK GOD!
He is broadcasting out of his house, but is moving to SACRAMENTO with his new wife, Janet to do the show there. He actually loves it in sacramento.
Tom Gavin still phones, so does the burping guy that does crank calls. I think you can listen to the show on the KHTK 1140 website. Sheryl the big dyke has died.
wow...great interview, great post. I'd listen to Don and Mike on KJFK-FM in Austin back when...and i was running a route for Terminix. I can't tell you how many times i was late to appointments or cancelled altogether, just because I had to hear them.
The format changed and we lost them. So...I didnt know all this about Freda...but I remember her "segments" and she was like the June Cleaver of radio. What a sweetheart.
Like many, I took the loss of Frieda personally, as if she were a friend. It was heartbreaking. The outpouring of love and support from the listeners was powerful. I wish you the best Mike.
I loved Freda and belonged to the 4 hour club from 92-96 (or whenver it started). I listened those 4 yrs but then moved away from the show. I feel so bad for Mike (and still have a little crush on him).
I just learned about Freda's death tonight and watched all three videos. It's weird, I live about 20 miles away from the road she died on. I moved away from Northern Virginia five years ago and lost track of the Don & Mike Show. My heart goes out to you Don & Bart. My Late Condolances.
Mike, I've listened to you for the past eight years. Couldn't imagine how difficult it's been for you and Bart. I respect you, wish the best for Bart, and know Frieda is waiting for you. I wish you all the best.
Thanks for the opportunity to see this, so that I can see this side of his personality. I was a faithful listener for many, many years, and I "bought into" Don's "jerk" persona, but I could tell that the bond and love between him and Freda was genuine and deep. I truly appreciate how honest he's been about the effect of losing Freda. He's always been about honesty, and I wish him the best in his new life.
