The late-in-his-life, cranky and cantankerous "American Dream" bit has been flying all over the place lately because it's a shocking bit of truth that's brutally honest. Not very funny, and that's why so many despise it. But take a second look at this bit. Listen to the laughs. Times were good. Carlin's presentation was what people expected. And then you really listen to what he was revealing. He was on-target then. He was on-target when he got more brutally honest.
