I agree! Nearly all the Gradius games had a nearly (or completely) defenseless final boss... but the arcade version of Gradius III made you WORK to escape afterward. F***ing HARD.
Yeah I partly agree. I think the gradius games are more about the challenge of reaching the final boss more than the boss itself. Cause lets face it, you have to be pretty fuckin good to get that far.
The final bosses are mostly defenseless because, their leader is very desperate in stopping you from reaching him... Yeah, I really got frustrated on the Arcade Version of Gradius 3 after defeating the final boss, you have to go through an annoying speed-up zone! I even have to use Reduce(Konami Code) just to bearly make out...
