Hey there, the equipment they're using is a vocoder. It's a synthesizer that combines an external signal (like a microphone) with a waveform from a synth. You're basically playing the voice with the keys on the keyboard and manipulating the frequencies with knobs. That's why she sounds like a robot. I'm pretty sure the specific synthesizer they're using is a microkorg. Cool little machine from what I hear, but I've never used one myself.
