The best way I can suggest spontaneity is to not try impromptu songs like Russell does here, but to instead try performing extemporaneous songs with ad lib. (If you are indeed interested, then look up the words I have given. Not trying to be too pretentious, just thought I'd offer quick knowledge to you.)

Basically, attempt an improvised train of thought in your head, or do it aloud. Do it from a theme you planned previously however, or you may struggle to get started. Then go from 50% improv
