It is true, if you jailbreak your iDevice it will slow it down I jailbroke my iPad 2 and after 3 days it was running like shit. So I had to restore it .
I haven't jailbroken my iPhone (still considering it though,) but I support jailbreaking due to it is people's individual devices and they should have their right to use them how they want.

theft: before I jailbroke mine, the bastards at the school I go to kept stealing it from me. Even if they got in trouble from the school, they kept doing it.
privacy: the bastards kept stealing it to look at photos, contacts, notes, videos, songs, basically, everything.
Once I jailbroke it, they stopped. If they found out I unjailbroke it, they would continue.
@MrAbood900 there are apps in cydia that lock your apps. If you lock your apps, they can't see your personal information (contacts, photos, notes, etc.), thus protecting your privacy.
Even if it wasn't legal, I am still going to jailbreak MY ipod. I paid $300 and I have the right to do whatever I want with it. Unless apple is going to pay for my products, they have no right to tell me how to use my devices.

@Darkphire25 apple doesn't give a shit what people do with their phones. jailbreaking just voids the warranty. it's the copyright infringement that's usually associated with jailbreaking. when i jailbroke mine, i found homebrews that allow you to download free appstore apps.. emulators to play older video games.. all kinds of stuff that was free to jailbreakers. jailbreaking removes all the security features on the phone that prevent this kind of stuff. as cool as it was, it makes a lot of sense
Here's something else to consider. Don't think for a moment that some of these third party software developers are broke and just writing apps for fun. If you can write an app that collects certain data from your downloaders, you can easily sell that to the highest bidder. Look at Facebook. They don't manufacture anything, sell anything, produce anything. The concept is worth billions based on the information it collects from it's subscribers. Sniff away my little third party developers.
I'm getting a clicking noise when ever i bump my 4S , it seems to be coming from the camera area . And everything is working normally, i.e camera flash, zoom, stability, auto-focus etc. Is this a serious problem ? or just cosmetic wear and tear ? Thanks

All I'm saying is go ahead and break away, but just know what you're getting into when you start downloading third party applications that are not approved my Apple, microsoft, etc,. Don't get me wrong, they’re keeping an eye on you too, but they’re more likely to fallow a more restricted set of rules than other third party developers sense they have some brand equity to protect. I get the whole jailbreaking thing. It's a rush to tinker around and get something to work, or even get something for free, but a lot of the times it doesn't work because it's only accessible in the beta stage of development. There's too many fingers in the pie and without any restriction on codes, script, sub-script, you end up with a high probability of downloading something that doesn't work, or something malicious that sniffs your GPS location, e-mail, text messages, phone numbers, etc . .
I didn't even know this was a thing. Now I wish I had some device from Apple so that I could do it, just because I should have the right to modify any device I want to just because I own it -It's a question of pure liberty. Apple is fascist.

This is something I like about Android. Once you buy your Android phone, it's YOUR phone. You can root it (basically the "jailbreak" for Androids), hack it, do whatever. I have an iPod Touch and a Galaxy S2. And I hate how hate how although we spend like $250 on it, Apple still treats it like it's not fully ours.

but the real problem here is that a jailbroken device can install apps without purchase which makes it a form of piracy. i used to jailbreak my idevices but it brings complications and slows down my devices. its better to be clean as long has you have money to spend on music and apps. :)
The problem with jailbreaking isn't the legality of it, it's the customer support that the company behind it will have to resolve on behalf on the customers mistake of not following the instructions right and the original warrenty behind it. Then there is the whole piracy issue from the result of jail breaking.....if controlled properly though it can be really good. I don't get why we have to jailbreak android phones though for a custom ROM.
I support jailbreaking, for tablets/smartphones and gaming consoles. For example the PS3 iPods iPads and iPhones, but stuff that supports piracy doesn't get my support.

I nearly called the cops on them at 1 point, because one of them said they were going to run over it with one of their cars. This would've done 2 things: destruction of property, and theft. After I told them I would call the cops if they did, they didn't do it. My guess is they didn't wanna see the cops.

I told the copyright people why I jailbroke it.
Why? To prevent theft and privacy.
theft: before I jailbroke mine, the bastards at the school I go to kept stealing it from me. Even if they got in trouble from the school, they kept doing it.
privacy: the bastards kept stealing it to look at photos, contacts, notes, videos, songs, basically, everything.
Once I jailbroke it, they stopped. If they found out I unjailbroke it, they would continue.

@MrAbood900 there are apps in cydia that lock your apps. If you lock your apps, they can't see your personal information (contacts, photos, notes, etc.), thus protecting your privacy.

Even if it wasn't legal, I am still going to jailbreak MY ipod. I paid $300 and I have the right to do whatever I want with it. Unless apple is going to pay for my products, they have no right to tell me how to use my devices.

@Darkphire25 apple doesn't give a shit what people do with their phones. jailbreaking just voids the warranty. it's the copyright infringement that's usually associated with jailbreaking. when i jailbroke mine, i found homebrews that allow you to download free appstore apps.. emulators to play older video games.. all kinds of stuff that was free to jailbreakers. jailbreaking removes all the security features on the phone that prevent this kind of stuff. as cool as it was, it makes a lot of sense

Here's something else to consider. Don't think for a moment that some of these third party software developers are broke and just writing apps for fun. If you can write an app that collects certain data from your downloaders, you can easily sell that to the highest bidder. Look at Facebook. They don't manufacture anything, sell anything, produce anything. The concept is worth billions based on the information it collects from it's subscribers. Sniff away my little third party developers.

I'm getting a clicking noise when ever i bump my 4S , it seems to be coming from the camera area . And everything is working normally, i.e camera flash, zoom, stability, auto-focus etc. Is this a serious problem ? or just cosmetic wear and tear ? Thanks

All I'm saying is go ahead and break away, but just know what you're getting into when you start downloading third party applications that are not approved my Apple, microsoft, etc,. Don't get me wrong, they’re keeping an eye on you too, but they’re more likely to fallow a more restricted set of rules than other third party developers sense they have some brand equity to protect. The downside is that they're charging you for it . . <;o) Happy Jailbreaking yo . .

I get the whole jailbreaking thing. It's a rush to tinker around and get something to work, or even get something for free, but a lot of the times it doesn't work because it's only accessible in the beta stage of development. There's too many fingers in the pie and without any restriction on codes, script, sub-script, you end up with a high probability of downloading something that doesn't work, or something malicious that sniffs your GPS location, e-mail, text messages, phone numbers, etc . .

This is something I like about Android. Once you buy your Android phone, it's YOUR phone. You can root it (basically the "jailbreak" for Androids), hack it, do whatever. I have an iPod Touch and a Galaxy S2. And I hate how hate how although we spend like $250 on it, Apple still treats it like it's not fully ours.

@TheCataIyst They make it so if you jailbreak your iPod, it voids the warranty. They do that because jailbreaking could damage the device, and if it does break, Apple would have to replace all these devices for free, thus making them lose money.

Idc if its illegal or not the chances of getting caught are so damn slim because even if it is people will still do it and what over god like 80% of population are using iphones. Only half of them dont jailbreak because they think its going to fuck up there device or they dont have the brains when its the simplest thing to do. In conclusion it wont stop me from doing it. but the real problem here is that a jailbroken device can install apps without purchase which makes it a form of piracy. i used to jailbreak my idevices but it brings complications and slows down my devices. its better to be clean as long has you have money to spend on music and apps. :)

The problem with jailbreaking isn't the legality of it, it's the customer support that the company behind it will have to resolve on behalf on the customers mistake of not following the instructions right and the original warrenty behind it. Then there is the whole piracy issue from the result of jail breaking.....if controlled properly though it can be really good. I don't get why we have to jailbreak android phones though for a custom ROM.
