You can tell by the way the guy handles the cat, he's an asshole, and probably a cat hater.
I think it was cool to take one to zero gravity, but you don't need to prove you're an ignorant pussy by not giving the animal a chance to acclimate and deal with a new environment on it's own.
No, that's not enough for you to observe, you gotta fling it into a wall, probably like you did to all the cats you even saw on the earth. The cat's not the pussy.. you are...
to see if the cat reacts in micro gravity to incoming surfaces with a turning reflex, similar like it would do under regular conditions when it drops to the floor..
How is this animal cruelty? The cat's fine. It just takes a small nudge for things to move far in zero gravity. The cat's just freaking out because he's never done that before.
@valzilla2000 I know he's not getting hurt. But the little motherfucker's having a damn seizure (figuratively speaking) in mid air. He's obviously horrified.
YO THIS IS FUCEED U UP I CANT BELIVE U THINK THIS IS FUNNY IM PART OF PETA AND THIS IS FUCKED UP YOU GUYS CANT LAUGH THIS IS ANIMAL ABUSE THIS IS MESSED UP FUCKED UP HOW DOES THE CAT FEEL, YOU THINK THE CAT CAN COMPREHEND THE ABSENCE OF GRAVITY HUH? WHAT IF YOU WER A CAT AND PLACED IN A UNFAMILIAR ENVIRONMENT HUH? CATS CANT EVEN BREATH IN SPACE
@pancakemandan Cant tell if Troll... or just really stupid, which means you could actually be from PETA. how does a cat breathe ? why can a human breathe, and yet the cat cannot? and honestly, if i was a cat taken into a new environment i would probably act really funny, to an observer, at first. until the new environment has been explored and understood.
@pulsejet1 I dont know maybe the part where he slings it up against the wall? Also maybe harm to their backs due to lack of gravity. Cats are not meant to be in a low gravity environment and they cannot react as they would in a greater gravity environment. The way the cats are twisting about and trying to get up right can cause damage to their musclese so yea.
@MtthwSmmns So you're saying that a cat twisting about in zero gravity is going to to irreparable damage to a cat's back. When these same cats jump, fall, twist, all while playing, fighting, and hunting? I'm not for harming animals but at the same time I don't think we put enough stock into the ability of nature to take care of itself. As far as the contact with the wall...again, I've seen cat's do far worse to themselves.
no ok that's too mutch, i could agree taking a kitty in 0 gravity, but throwing it like a foot ball,no thats just mean and unrespecful! screw you ASS-tronauts!
Thats just..... not-fucking-cool-at-all. Stressing a cat out like that in the name of research? I'd like to throw that woman at the wall in normal gravity - that would wipe the smile off her face.
I don't think the cat liked that and I think the douche bags that did this video should at least be fired and I'd placed them in G force centrifuge for a while to think about what they did to that poor cat!
It's better to check them out on the plane rather than after they wind up in space. They learned this lesson with Spacelab after sending a monkey experiment up and figuring out after it was up that the waste disposal system was GRAVITY FED. This is actually on NASA's vomit comet, a plane that simulates no gravity by doing long diving parabolas. Gravity returns (with a vengeance) when the plane pulls up out of the dive.
i would softly toss him feet first across the room. that was throwing a cat at the wall hoping itll stick like suction cups on glass. I bet though a cat if slowly introduced, could start leaping across the room.
Everyone who is bleating about animal cruelty, worse stuff happens to the animals that get tested on for your cosmetics and medication. What about your leather interior in your cars or your shoes, belts. The food you eat. All comes from harm to animals. Stop valuing one animals life over another because you give certain animals names and think they look cute. You are worse then the astronaut. He is discovering something. You do it for your own benefit. Btw im not veggie, I just hate hypocrites
They're throwing the cat against a wall because it's fun. It's what makes cats such fine experimental subjects. Though I would pity the guy who had to catch it. Fur, teeth and claws....all coming at you at 70 miles per hour?
man, that guy was messed up- he also diddnt catch the cat so it landed headfirst on the pavement after having its leg tugged on by the "catcher", lets just say, there was intestines and brains scattered for several yards.
@Kingspade808 Look at it this way. There are (since gravity is neutralized) no forces acting on the cat in that zero g environment. The only force acting on the cat is the force from the astronauts shoving it. It hits the wall with significantly less force than it would if it were, say, jumping from a desk. Long story short, the cat is fine.
@Chaoticbravo Yeah, cat is fine. most likely they wanted to test whether it would 'land' on it's feet. and bless his heart it looks like he tried. (and succeeded far more than I would have)
@Chaoticbravo I've had a lot of experience on a trampoline from my younger days. The cat is being pushed by the astronaut--that's a force, nullifying that there are no forces on it. Though there's no gravity, that cat is still hitting that wall with the force that the person puts on the cat. Now, when I jump up from a trampoline, gravity is not positively working on me. Still, when my head conks a branch, it friggin' hurts. x.x
@OddFacade That's because the force from the springy trampoline is pushing you up much faster than gravity can force you down. Even though gravity IS acting on you (creating acceleration of roughly 10m/s downward), the amount of force from the trampoline is enough to counteract gravity, and, unfortunately for you, allow you to hit your head on a branch rather hard.
@Chaoticbravo Even in a weightless environment, when the density of my head, followed by the mass of my body, flies into a branch, I'm still affected by my velocity and whatever stationary object my head hits. x.x Zero-G isn't a free-for-all throw-fest. Astronauts can't just move freely, bump themselves, and not get hurt. This cat here was injured by someone who needs some behavioral correction. x.x
@OddFacade Do you have proof it was injured? No? Thought so. Don't make assumptions, they undermine your moral high horse. The NASA group here were, in fact, doing legitimate research to see how a cat would handle it. Yeah, it looks a bit rough, but these people aren't monsters, they know the limits. When your head conks a branch, its because you jumped with too much force. MORE force than is required to send the cat floating; very little force was used here. Cat is fine. Get over it; move on.
@chriswalton88 Kay, well, you kind of assumed I had no proof right at the beinning of your post there. x.x But if you tell me not to make assumptions, you should follow your own advice by assuming that the cat is fine. Tell me, when that red-jacket girl was throwing puppies in a river, was everyone wrong to assume those were real puppies? Now, take the mass that can properly be assumed of the cat, combine it with the throw speed, and factor resistance of the wall. Pain is likely.
@OddFacade Did you get what I was saying? I didn't say the cat felt no impact, I said that the cat takes more impact jumping from a height than it does being thrown by an astronaut. If a cat doesn't get injured jumping from a table, then it wouldn't get hurt there.
@visualprophet I DO hope you realize that this is not space, and only a zero-g simulation via airplane. This doesn't cost billions, or anything near that figure.
@visualprophet Don't blame us for the fact we've gotten to the point we can throw money at such projects. Go back to farming dirt ya commie. And on a serious note it is in our intrest to see animals in space for the opportunity to raise them there for future colonization efforts.
@Durgyburg Why would we take animals from this planet into space, its just not what mother nature intended, we need to leave the animals of earth alone, take our shit and get the fuck off their planet before we do even more harm to it
@emkE44 or not, they were testing it's reflexes, and to see how it controls itself as Cats are often great at contorting themselves for certain situations like falling in the sky, they didn't exactly throw the cat did they? Idiot, and also learn to spell.
you know. the russians did the same and in the video they where VERY gentle with the animals. This is the reason why everyone around the world would love but nothing more to see a giant crater where the good ol' us of a used to be.
@soljerameelguy Are you talking about the Russian video where the guy used his foot to kick the cat into a bar on the ceiling? Versus tossing the cat at low speed into a padded wall?
Oh the cat is fine! Anyone would freak out if they were in zero gravity. It takes time to adjust, and the cat just wasn't ready for it. It's not getting hurt.
I hope no intelligent extraterrestrial life ever sees those comments.People who say this is cruel or pointless are dumb wusses.
There are HUMANS who died for the sake of scientific progress. Wanna know why? Because ultimately, it improves our chance of survival. There's nothing wrong with making a cat feel uncomfortable for a little while - if you don't understand why it's done it doesn't mean it has no scientific value. (say, how many scientific experiments YOU CAN understand anyway?)

This is the reason why everyone around the world would love but nothing more to see a giant crater where the good ol' us of a used to be.
soljerameelguy 1 year ago
@soljerameelguy Are you talking about the Russian video where the guy used his foot to kick the cat into a bar on the ceiling? Versus tossing the cat at low speed into a padded wall?
You're a fucking idiot.

Do kinda feel sorry for that Cat but it's not cruelty lol. It's not like they've skewered it or something.
