Ok people come down from the clouds, this is why i requested this version of this classic beautiful song in the Doowop ( pop ) style.....Pure class!!! Thanks again phunkjunction you are the daddy-o
@MRDOOWOP1 What is doo wop about this? it's a vocal group style no different than The Brothers Four, were they singing doo wop? of not neither are The Dimensions here , doo wop a much over used and miss understood term which is certainly not synonymous with the term pop
@platoon108 cant beat this music, didnt need shite x factor to find talent like this, melodic, soulful tunes very rare these days.great post ,please continue
OK I listened to more--Joy Tones, Connie Francis and The Teddy Bears do a good job of the stanza I refer to but later get too strong on "let the fire start" all of a sudden, don't build up to it.
I have been on a "mission" to find another rendition of this song of the many attempted that comes even a bit close to this one. Where the others fall short especially IMHO in the stanzas that start with "there's a line between love and fascination" ...
This song and other great ballads can still be heard on Terry Lee's Music For Young Lovers show in Pittsburgh...you can hear him now on the Internet every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 8 - Midnight, Music For Young Lovers every night from 10-Midnight. Google "Official Terry Lee site" and click on TL's Live Feed on the left.
I am adding this small memuar as I met Howie their Bass/baritone singer of the group at a billiards parlor where he was doing some part time work that was on Lydig ave back in around 1967 and we were chatting and I was telling him about my accapella group and where we can take our group to the next level we were called the Prophets and was a prominent sound around Pelham Pkwy, then during our conversatin food was ordered hot dogs with potato salad thanks Howie that was a great lunch.
@DooWops4U2 I grew up on Cruger Ave back in the '50s and '60s. What a time it was. That billiard parlor was owned by the Smith Bros (Hy and Jerry), who used to run Smitty's luncheonette on Lydig Ave. Best ice cream sodas and burgers ever!.
@Kungamuck Lenny's Uncle Phil is also my Uncle Phil. He had a great voice... but even more he was a great guy. I miss him and we reminisce about him all the time. God Bless you Uncle Phil!
dodazzle48--I do the same thing...and then I look for the other Demensions songs...This voice blend is so compelling, plus it brings back such nostalgia..This group should have been one of the best known all time hit groups--
I apologize for commenting to much about this group..but it is the BEST group..the harmony is wonderful, especially with Martelli, but it could only work with just these people..The picture of them is so precious..they are so young..an aura of talent surrounds their innocence...damn , Martelli is so pretty and the other guys are so youthfully handsome..but their voice blend is never to be duplicated...
@prettywoman456 ....Lenny Del Judice is a wonderful guy, I am sure he is happy to hear that his song has inspired such emotion between you and your man....this is what great doo wop is suppose to do...you/yours are great examples of this....hope you guys go on 4 ever !!!....Tony
to DA Bronx 24 I remember that music store (Mell-O-Dee) well, although from the '70s, not the '60s. However, the ones I remember the most were Bronen's near Fordham Road (where I got my first amp) and West Manor on Gun Hill Road (where I got my first electric keyboard).

The Demensions are great !!! What Harmoney !!
Salvis1943 1 year ago 2
@Salvis1943 They auditioned in Lenny Dells house with their rendition of Over the Rainbow for
Irv Spice of Mohawk Records and were then supposed to record the song at Dick Charles Studios
later on but a week before the session Charlie Peterson the first tenor dropped out to continue
his education. The group recruited Lenny's uncle Phil Del Guidice almost twice their ages and
as they say "the rest is history" Why the Demensions never reached the top is one of R&R's
great mysteries ?

Here's another song that the Geator would play all the time. He would also play them singing Ava Maria- it's beautiful - has anyone posted it?
