If he was just a bit more creative rhythmically, Spencer would be simply the best musician since Rachmaninoff and Strauss died. But the way pop music's developed means that everyone has to be too obvious with bass and rhythm or else no-one will "understand" the music. To take it to the next level, he's got to learn to layer two themes on top of eachother, rather than just using basic binary form, like Sullivan.
