  • Dennis DeYoung, the original furry...

  • a modern musical masterpiece in which the human psyche has yet to fully comprehend...

  • which in the end did happen... James & Tommy didn't go for it... and the group broke up :)

  • This seems to me like Dennis DeYoung trying to destroy Styx intensionally...everything they were up to this was not the greatest but it was wasn't this..I heard this on the radio once and all I could remember for years was the part about girls in tight jeans...lucky me

  • 1999...it cracks me up that Tommy and JY could sack Dennis DeYoung from a band HE formed with the Panozzo brothers before he'd even MET Tommy Shaw...just lost all respect for Shaw and company. And you're right, Dave..I haven't heard a peep out of them sonce then. heard they're touring right now..is this with or without DeYoung, coz it just ain't Styx without him!

  • @EchelonSummer Dennis did end it with the Kilroy Was Here musical and then this tune was the last straw... until 1989. Even James Young's 'Heavy Metal Poisoning' wasn't good at that point... the stage show killed em. Overblown and with no money to show at that point.

  • @kqwiet Tommy was strung out on cocaine and other drugs that his creativity was stifled as were JY. If A&M weren't screaming "ALBUM" Dennis may have done Kilroy as a solo album. Blame the label. Dennis didn't want to replace Tommy. He only did Desert Moon until Tommy got his ass together and was ready to return to Styx.

  • These sounds like and looks like something Oingo Boingo would have done.

  • Last saw this in 1984 on MTV at my Grandmothers house in Ridgecrest Ca

  • Tommy and JY did NOT "sack" Dennis DeYoung...DeYoung was the true driving force behind this band, long before they even hired Tommy Shaw..Tommy left of his own volition just before this song/album was recorded. As you can see by the video, this was an amicable parting of ways, NOT a sacking of any kind by anybody. And, as I recall, NONE of them did anything Earthshattering after this one..I always loved DeYoung, and thought his "Desert Moon" album was incredible!! Loved Shaw's "Girls With Guns"

  • @EchelonSummer he was talking about in 1999.

  • Styx hit #40 in Billboard, 6-2-84. Went down the tubes, since Tommy and JY sacked Dennis deYoung. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • I freakin LOVE STYX!!!!!!!!

  • I Love It! I Did Not Know Styx Shot A Video Too This Song. The Song Can Be Found On The First Side Of Their Double LP Styx LIVE! Caught In The Act! Thank You So Much For Posting. I Still Remember As A Fan, The Fond Memories Of The Great Years Of Styx, When They Were For Many Years On Top Of The World!

  • Anyone notice the big PENIS coming out of the ground at 03:38 (39) Its the 3rd shot after the word 'Up!'. I am almost positive this was record from HBO's video jukebox. (the font at the beginning. Also that is the only place I saw or heard this song - and I watched too much m.t.v. and listened to too much FM radio. Thanks for posting it here -great to see/hear it again. Also, anyone notice the chorus guitar riff sounds like when 'eddie & the cruisers' were writing 'on the dark side' ? :)

  • @Echdrum -replying to myself here- I just noticed at the very end it shows the HBO video jukebox machine- and the title - sorry about that.

  • @Echdrum You mean the silhouette of the little boy looking up at the girls boobs?

  • @pirateofthecarabiner - Yes! Geesh! (where was my mind!?) Thanks. P.S. nice to see Tommy in the video (waved at) at 03:31

  • @Echdrum I had to watch it about 20 times until it finally clicked what you were talking about (:

  • @pirateofthecarabiner HA!!! It obviously threw me too. :)

  • this doesn't seem like something they would do

  • @afullmetalwar

Hell no it doesn't; its badass

    It makes them do things

    They would not ordinarily

  • please record this song in Ares to download, Thanks

  • I haven't seen this in 25 years. Thanks for the memories...

  • this was the SHIT, styx jammin da shit

  • Some girls back in the 80's are so hot.

And the Philippines. Bad news is i do not

know if this mtv was air here

  • big girls in tight jeans...............

  • i like BIG things......

  • After Kilroy was Here this song is

    a little... Eh...

  • i can't believe i watched that whole thing, i really hope they were on drugs when they produced that. good song though

  • I actually have this song on a 45. Fall under the category of "What was I thinking?" Of course, I WAS only 13.

  • They predicted youtube with this video. Specially with the robot at the end with the video jukebox.

Styx was so ahead of their time in may ways people have not yet understood. They were all geniuses in their own way. Now they're only bitter men.

  • This song is a little weird. I like Styx. They opened for Def Leppard in 2007 and kicked ass, not near as good as the best band ever Def Leppard but thank god they didn't sing this song. I like the Styx stuff when Tommy Shaw sings. Like "Too Much Time on My Hands", "Blue Collar Man", "Fooling Yourself".

  • the clip cannot be so intelectual, but the song is a HIT!!!

  • Styx (The ORIGINAL line up with Shaw)was a great band! Incredible in concert, incredible musicians and vocals. This song was great! Brings back memories of Styx in arenas

  • i wish styx would do more songs like this, its a great song

  • I'd definitely give that cute girl at 3:15 some head to eat.

  • Comment removed

  • I cannot help but agree with you. I'd like to give her some too.

  • The scene when the maitre 'd is spazzing out is hilarious.

  • I want to be the girl in the pink dress LOL

  • Now I remember "Caught in the Act"

  • Which album was this song on?

  • Too bad so many people hated the Kilroy was Here album. I liked all their albums and Kilroy was based on a rock star named Kilroy who was jailed.

  • AH COOL that was from Video Jukebox, Coolest show on HBO in the eighties

  • Yoiks! Lighten up people! fun song, fun video. They could have done a little more of this after the self-important moralizing of the failed "Kilroy was Here" experiment.

  • All things must end. Yes, Tommy Shaw was gone. What's left for Dennis and gang to do but hook up with a hot video director and release this stinging mockery of modern life. Overblown, raging against the consumerist machine that made them, this vid says it all as Dennis plays executioner to a jaded beauty salon moll who couldn't care less, submits to vapid "naughty" girls and ultimately just says "yes" to McConsumerizm. The sets are awesome. Rate as 5-Star pop parody.

  • Tommy Shaw was in this video briefly (towards the end). Also he is on the track (according to Dennis DeYoung from a 1999 radio interview). Tommy filmed his cameo towards the end to give the public the illusion that Styx was still together when it wasn't the case. Shortly after the release of Caught In the Act album, the band officially disbanded. I always liked this track. I had CitA on cassette and now CD. IMHO one of the best live albums ever although many whine and cry about it.

  • One of the all-time spectacular shark jumps by a popular band. I think they even stuck this as the 'new track' on a Best of, if memory serves. Ho-ly crow.

  • I love this video, haven't seen it in years.

  • You guys have your tastes and opinions but I think you're being too harsh on Styx for this song. Out-of-character maybe but it's fun and music was never meant to cure cancer anyway. It's meant to be enjoyed and I enjoyed this video; it's supposed to be absurd.

  • yeah just a filler and sadly this clip is also verry crapy oh shit

this was the time when styx found their waterloo instanly whit this.... song

  • They were already done for at this point, note Tommy Shaw missing in the video. He already left, they were kaput till the 90's.

  • Good Lord, this is like the worst song ever -- and I am a huge Styx fan! It hurts, because Styx is capable of such great songs. But THIS -- annoying melody, stupid lyrics, cheesy video -- is just painful. It's like they did this on a dare to see if they could create the worst song ever made. No wonder Tommy Shaw quit the band after this!

  • their conehaed imitation was just .. fastly suicidal like this clip yeap we cant see tommy shaw and his move from this clip ( yark....) save his reputation lol

  • well by all means, share your work with the rest of us...show us how you can write only great songs
