  • Actually, this was 1970, like the title says. All tobacco advertising was banned on American TV as of Jan. 2, 1971. I remember seeing that Maryland commercial in 1970; one thing that stood out in my mind about that commercial for these 40 years is that white fence.

  • @wannawatchu66 I can see how you'd remember it after all this time. I like how the guy makes the tobacco seem so fresh and clean since it was hanging up in a barn for "8 long lazy weeks" and "fresh air cured". Oh, and by the way, you'll get cancer from this and die a long painful, horrible death too!

  • @corydwalker I couldn't agree more with you--although I like these commercials for their nostalgic and historical value, you couldn't pay me to smoke, at least not cigs. I think cigs are disgusting, filthy, and make those who smoke them stink. If I were tempted to smoke anything, it would be a pipe, but even then, I haven't had the inclination to do even that.

  • On the commercial about Maryland cigarettes - somehow the idea of smoking and fresh air do not seem to coincide with one another. Maybe in 1971 it did.
