I've almost blown my car amp so many times with this song.
The really cool thing... There are no synthesizers or digital effects in this song (or album). The thunder was made by some pedal with a bad transistor and they layered the guitars something like thirty times to make it sound so massive. To have been at the recording session for this song would have made my cry tears of joy.
Love the pipe organ...the Atlantic City Convention Hall Organ, the world's biggest and loudest musical instrument. Would love to have been there the day this was recorded!
this is a more than perfect example of what you want / expect your stereo system to sound like with full power and zero distortion. it covers it all, highs...mids....lows...bass...accoustics...and presentation. a no doubt powerful approach to perfectly in-tuned sound. if you want to test your theory of sound, this tune will no doubt allow you to hear it all.
I had a dream about 9-11 before it happened, well it was something similiar whereas I was in this open field with tall buildings around me and everyone was focused on this field like it was a memorial of sorts. When I vawoke this song along with "Cool the engines" was playing on the radio.
@angelkid79 i was dreaming something weird that morning it was like something being raked.but i felt very sick but the song by blind guardian(noldor) was in the dream.plus i was sweating and kept feeling and hearing the word destruction destruction. i wake up going to the bathroom hearing the tv in living room on.about it being worst in our history i was like oh boy a movie till i saw what went down.then i knew it was not just a dream i had.
When Tom starst to pick up the temple on this song, when the rocket-like soundining engine effect go on, it pretty much is the same timming as to when an airplane is taking off on the runway.
I imagine that it's some montage of an anthem (The Star Leauge) the struggle for man to reach for the stars and, a longing fullfilled. Ad astra(to the stars) At the same time, a meeting of two people. a comming together. A relationship that has strugled and overcome adversity. (pardon my cheese) It seems to me that there is a little somthing of the "songwriters" personal expirence that drives the concept of third stage(BTW My Fav)
I LOVE Boston, but I don't like how they have so much time with only a very quiet background noise (the first minute). Unless my music is really loud, I can't even hear it at all. It always makes me think my mp3 player died or something, only to be startled when suddenly everyone comes in at once at 1:02.
It makes me think of something impending that is coming... Such as a launch, and your just waiting for it... When the music kicks in, that is when your thinking about the inevitable thing that is coming, then at the end, it's happening, and you can't stop it.
That's how I think of it, and I think it is just as necessary as the rest.
Damn... This song, it's so indescribably beautiful to me. I can't even put it into words. As soon as all of the instruments start playing, I feel... like something really really bad just occured, yet I'm strong enough to overcome it.
@Neodynamics It really does have a sadness to it. I always thought it was because i associate this with the shuttle crash of 1985. but it is just a beautifully sad song.
One of the most brilliant instrumentals I've ever heard. I get this feeling I am floating in space whenever I listen to it. Awesome song!!!

Wow--how great is that? When was the last time you heard something this fantastic from any band or group of musicians anywhere?
rippinsteo 2 years ago 23
This compares favorably to "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," and also "Octavarium."
If we're listening to short songs, this holds its own against "Eruption". Without doubt.
