My next car is probably going to be a lancer of some variety - my 2005 Camry SE 5 speed is not being sold in Canada with a 5 speed as of 2011 ... grrrr so that brings an end to my Toyota Loyalty :(

Not the 2008 models their all 2.0's the 2.4's in the gts's were all swtiched over to 2.4's in 2009. Trust me I own a 2010 gts 5 speed

thers not too much deffrence in HP btw the 2.0 and 2.4 . weird in United arab Emirates ( My acountry) we dont have the 2.4 =/ that suckz .

Your not really factoring in the 43 extra hp and 43 extra tq we have from the get go for 5 speed 2.4's. Also the cvt weighs in about 300 pounds more than the 5 speed and is 1.2 seconds slower in the quarter mile. I ve raced plenty of 2.0's and 2.4's I ll walk over 2.0 lancers any day of the week.

If meager power is the only issue with the Lancer GTS, then you want to spring for the 2009 model at least, the Lancer GTS will have a 168HP engine.

What he must've meant by searching gears is that when you are at certain speeds, for example around 40 mph, the car downshifts to 5th and then back to 6th and will keep doing that unless you hold the gas down just right. (this happens sometimes in my RA, not sure if this car has a 6th gear as well)

Its really nothing serious but he's getting paid to point out the smallest details.

Oh, and that is only on full auto, not when u have it in "manual"

btw, cvt can't be searching for the right gear. it doesn't have gears. just hit the down shift padle if you want lower rpm

i think they mean like the gear ratio, in the artificial gears. i have the manual, and the automatic is always like changing the engine speed inconsistentely even when cruising at the same speed.

I've put over 50k miles on my 08 lancer and I still love it. It's not that fast but the style and options are unbeatable for a $20K commuter. quality is better than alot of more expensive cares to. I just had one problem with th a/c but mitsu had it fixed the same day.

You need to get a manual if you wqant to have fun with the 2.4L motor... oh and get a wider tire/lighter wheels as those standard 18" rims are heavy and narrow for all that torque

Yes sir! The Lancer is a great looking car, much more sporty than any corolla or anything in its class. It has great interior space, and the car offers lots of tech.

Plus the MIVEC engines offer better performance and still offer good mpg.

With CVT tranny's are they more expesive to repair/replace than regular automatic transmissions? The CVT seems like a fairly simple design, where normal trannys have many complex gears and such, so are cvts easier/cheaper to replace/repair?

yeah the CVT has no gears. if it has manual shift mode, it's just adjusting the RPM to simulate gears.

it depends what you're using it for. if you use it as a commuter and don't go very fast, it's great and produces low RPM's which make for great gas mileage. but if you want to go take it to the track, it's not so great. it's not bad, it's just a bit odd IMO.

lol prolly cheaper then 18000 now email dealers around you i was suprised cause im looking into a lancer ralliart and when dealerships need sales cause tis end of the month etc, anyways. a dealer near me said he could get m ina brand new ralliart 2009 lancer for 22,700 so you could prolyl get a gts with sun/sound and navi for 19-20k if you look hard and are persistant and patient i bet you can get it for 18k fully loaded. haha talk about a wall of text right? sorry hopefully it was helpful !!!!

cvt is cool cuz you can put it into manual mode and when you dont want manual you switch it into auto so you can drive manual when you want. no clutch tho. you switch gears with paddle shifters or the slap shifter

You guys are retarded if you think CVT has no gears.. I dont know much about the 08's but the 09's have a 6 speed transmission on the CVT and only a limited 5 speed for manual. The creator of this video is obviously biased against anything other then manual as if CVT was so "slushy" professional race car drivers wouldn't be switching to it.. nah ur both wrong it has a cvt tranny which has NO gears and NO shifting the artificial paddle shifters are usless because the car only has 1 gear and thats go. the paddle shifters juss make a shifting noise but there is really no shifting going on in the engine so its really stupid to but unless u dont care about the power and if u like hearing an engine strain every time u drive it

I don't have a 350z. I have a 300zx Turbo. So if you want to argue about price, I bought it for $800. The new Lancer gets terrible gas mileage for being a small car. The new Civic cost the same and is a much nicer car that gets mileage in the 30's. My 2005 Altima is a bigger car with more power and it still gets the same, if not better, mileage.

here in australia, the GTS lancer is called the VRX lancer, i just got mine (CVT model), after test driving both 5 speed and auto cvt,

its a brilliant transmission, dont know what this guys talking about slushy, and not knowing which gear to chose when it doesn't have any gears, in sports mode there is 6 shift points not gears, test drive one and you will love it, fuel economy is great, and it goes really good for a 2 litre engine, my 2 cents anyway.

I agree man, getting my VRX soon and testdrove the CVT, it seemed very smooth like you said probably because there are no gears... this guy is an idiot. The only gripe with the CVT is it makes a bit of a winding noise but Rockford Fosgate came to the rescue with that problem :)

I went with the manual GTS. Clicking an up/down paddle with NO CLUTCH is not real shifting, and it just isn't fun for me. Just my opinion.

the cvt with the sporttronic shifting is the one i bought. and if you want to coast leave it in auto. if you want to have fun use the paddle shifters. you get the best of both worlds.

Yes first thing I thought to... incorrect comment that one re CVT. I think another issue which I have heard is that people often need time to get used to the CVT as it is different, perhaps with more time this impression that its slushy may disappear

Umm.. CVT has no gears, its a one gear transmission that always stays in the powerband, so when you hit the gas you get power. I agree that the manual version is more peppy, but the CVT is no sloutch.
