This is technically correct, but most Americans use Shepherd's Pie to refer to both the one made with Lamb and the one made with Beef... I guess you could attribute it to the way southerners will refer to all sodas as coke and other things like that. I only learned the difference between cottage pie and shepherd's pie recently myself because I was brought up as shepherd's pie being a generic term.

if your using beef then you should be calling this cottage pie not shepherds pie, shepherds pie contains LAMB and not BEEF
