Euh, j'aime la sncf mais de là à montrer des VB2N béton et des EAD qui sont dans l'ancien temps alors que certains sont encore service de nos jours...
Excellent ad celebrating twenty years of advancement. The US railway Amtrak couldn't do the same, as the first images and last images would essentially be the same.
I hate it when Amtrak train come late because of heavy freight traffic on the mainline. I'm glad the European and Asian contries like France (SNCF) choose trains and high speed trains over highways because, trains are enviromentally freindly and people get to many places quickly without delay!
Is this video on any of the "La Passion des Trains" DVDs? I know they use the last few seconds as an intro clip, but I'm looking for the full thing as shown here?
A few years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this letter on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand;sorry i didnt want that happening to me
I think it's impossible to establish a rail system like in France or Germany in the USA, because in Europe the distances aren't as long as in the US and so trains are useful but the US is such a big country so it wouldn't make any sense to build a similar rail system.
OK, but it's not about linking LA with NYC, or even Chicago with Dallas. Maybe it's just about linking similar distances as what you see in Europe, more like Portland to SF, SF to LA & San Diego, Dallas to Houston, NYC to Chicago. The East Coast already has rather good rail. In Europe, high speed trains are not between very distant cities either. For that they have overnight sleeper trains which are also great ie. Paris to Berlin, BCN or Madrid to Paris, Milan or Rome to Paris...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Uh, no we don't. We're better suited with auto transportation considering the distances we have to travel. And besides, the trains are always late in France. SNCF has no competition, so they don't give a rat's behind if they're on time or not. Socalism: Ain't it Grand?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
When you're French, you quickly understand that auto transportation is really faster than our fu***** national rail service : always in late (as a consequence you cannot get any transfert), too expensive, heinous crew... That's a pleasure to travel with SNCF...
Don't forget : that's ONLY an ad... reality is a thousand miles away !
Shame on You!!! How could you deny our service of trains... Even if they are not always on time, every thing is made up to... Every one in this compagny is working toward that and blaming such a great institution is not very responsible. I'd like you to go in england and to compare with their train systems. Nothing is sync, none can drive you troughout the stream of passenger in the stations... Blame SNCF as much a you want but people know really what to think... Come and visit us !
I thought the SNCF was great (except for the strikes, named "social movements"), but it is a lot farther ahead than goddamn Amtrak.
Here in the US, trains are never on time, a lot of staff is overly rude, and service is slow. Don't complain about the SNCF- because Amtrak is shit sometimes, and I love that company. Seriously though, there are too few trains here, and the ones that exist are pitiful.
@ Superscordes: I lived in England for 6 years, I've never told anybody that English trains are better ! Moreover, I think my opinion is more objective than yours since I'm French and I used SNCF many times : you're right, people will know what to think...
@ ericn32: I've never been lucky with trains (always missed my transferts, often missed my flights). SNCF is always late too, staff is heinous too, service (except the TGV) are slow too.
But what's Amtrak ? The equivalent of SNCF in the USA?
The official equivalent. It's a pretty screwed up system. There is one "high-speed" route between Washington, New York, and Boston as well as other commuter routes across the country, co-sponsored by state governments. Long distance trains connect the entire system, but some big cities (Las Vegas, San Francisco) have no Amtrak service. They are served by local commuter trains owned by counties, cities, or regions that connect to Amtrak. I live 50 km south of Los Angeles and ride the train often.
Sth about US railways: maybe US freight trains are longer but much more slower than EU fleet. The most powerful country doesn't have even one High Speed Line and don't say that you have Acela because it's not a high speed train. Watch the vid and jealous.
Of course, the SNCF is awesome! I mean, there are few railroads, if any, that can compare in passenger service. But for freight, FRET just doesn't make the grade. America has longer, heavier freights than anyone else.
Sorry, but you just can't comete with BNSF and Union Pacific
European freight trains don't need to be as long and heavy as their American counterparts. Because they can travel much quicker over shorter distances and quite often using electrified locomotives. And bear in mind this is all achieved whilst mixing with frequent passenger traffic.
I love SNCF I just went to France and the trains there are definitely the best train system in the world! Dose anyone know were to download this song?
This is certaintly very symbolic. Now that Ive watched this several times, I can now see that if you watch the people travelling on the train closely, they are the same people, grown up of course, doing virtually the same thing: The girl who draws a heart on a steamed up window, now shes doodling one in her diary, and the three guys with a camera are back, as is the businessman on the cellphone.
Us brits have a lot of catching up to do. We're taking away carriages and making seats smaller! Clever French people I think I'll emigrate - FGW (First Great Western) can F**k off!
